Fury Road was one of the first big "culture war" wins that started during the mid 2010s. Fury Road was a good movie that the internet feminists could trumpet for its badass female lead. So for a solo movie starring that lead to fall flat is an embarrassment. A smaller scale version of The Marvels.

This movie shows you the glaring weakness of these big budget woke movies. They only work when tied to a character that people want to actually see. Take them out and it bombs

The original was badass because it was some gigachad killing a bunch of c**ts in a desert with crazy machines and junkies
        That’s why it was successful
It was pure bro core with great imagery

Then I thought it was just running out of creativity and writing what they knew - 'uh movie sets... hot coffee pot'.

Damn shame. There’s so many movies from the 80s to early 2000s I can think of with black leads that are great, or at least a lot of fun.

          >Predator 2
          >Blade
          >Virtuosity
          >Beverly Hills Cop
          >Enemy of the State
          >Spawn
          >Event Horizon
          >Coming to America

Just off the top of my head. I swear this push for diversity has actually made race relations worse, not better. That’s 20+ years of films with black leading men that everyone enjoyed without a second thought. The only recent one with similar energy was Tenet.

            Anonymous

Exactly, and the worst part is that its somehow being attributed to this movie too even though it clearly isn’t a push for diversity.

When will /chud/cels realize box office doesn't matter anymore? These tech and streaming companies basically have infinite money and when they buy these films streaming rights they off-set the losses. Yes they are "flopping" at the box officebut it doesn't matter because long-term, they make all the money back. The economics of the film industry have changed. There is no longer such a thing as a film "flopping" or incurring a loss.

That's a massively moronic oversimplification. Yes money printing and inflation and ESG are all destructive. That still doesn't mean that BO results mean nothing. Success would still be preferable to a flop, even if you can manipulate the finances to somehow break even down the line.

DelTorro made a great point how DVD sales would almost guarantee a sequel in case of a poor box office run. Now theres no more physical media. You now need a strong box office or critical acclaim. Fury Road had critical acclaim going for it. You need one of the two.

Blackrock’s cutting back because they lost billions bailing these companies out, and an actual inflation rate means there are consequences for financial failure once again. Pre-COVID the inflation rates were so low they could just keep borrowing money whenever they fricked up and never realistically have to pay any interest on it. Those days are over.

If Mel still has the energy Tom Cruise has, and if the sequel is similar to Top Gun in terms of cgi blending and traditional cinematography, then yeah, easily.

The trailer looking so bad and fake was a big issue when the whole point of fury road was how the effects seemed like they were from some alternate reality where practical effects had kept getting better since the 90s
I was thinking how bad could furiosa be if george miller directed it until I saw that trailer

Thing is, the scenes in the trailer that looked like shit, actually looked fine in the film. The trailer made it look like absolute shit.
I'd say some bits were on par or better than Fury Road but overall it was weaker, Dementus was a good mad max villain though.

    >Budget $168 million

Of 15 films modern films with a reported production budget over $100 mil, the average additional costs (marketing, overhead, interest, residuals and such) equaled about 1.5 x the production budget.

    >$168 mil x 1.5 = $252 mil

Of those same 15 modern films with reported production budgets over $100 mil, the average studio earnings from worldwide box office was 47%.

    >$252 = 47% of X
    >X = $536 mil

So this "Mad Max" film without Mad Max needs to make $536 million dollars in worldwide box office just to break even. NOT going to happen.

He rebuilt it, he can't let go of his past and move, the interceptor is all he has. Think this is expanded on in the game and I vaguely remember reading some interview once that had him looking for bits and pieces to repair it during Beyond Thunderdome, hence his camel wagon.

It's not the same Interceptor, perhaps at the end of Road warrior, he robbed a load of bits from the red Falcon with the bat painted on it, and mashed it together with the remains of his wrecked car, who knows...the important thing is that it is a crime against nature that it keeps appearing only to get wrecked, but it was a wreck in Fury Road already.

    >CGI
Yes, it’s not the greatest, but it is stylized. To compare Furiosa to Fury Road is apples and oranges within the same universe. They are completely different stories.

The valid complaints should be towards pacing and the way the movie was marketed.

If this movie was woke, Fury Road was the screenplay version of a Marxist manifesto.

Anya's Furiosa actually felt like an interesting woman (most of the time). They massively toned down the annoying dykedness she had in Fury Road. There wasn't any bullshit "save womens from le patriarchy" plot, the good guys were men, young furiosa accurately behaved like a dumb little girl in need of counseling by a wiser man, and gender bullshit wasn't even a factor in the film.
Also the only Black person in the film was some ugly midget who got domed.

This is what we should want. I'm not saying pay for it (because your money would only go to israelites that hate you), but I am saying if your complaints about films solely amount to how woke they are, then you finally got something you should enjoy.

What does fat represent in this metaphor? FR was completely bogged down by its female-written plotline and infuriatingly bad main characters. Rather than "fat" it was filled with human shit, not worth even eating around. Charlize Theron alone makes that movie not worth watching, let alone the entire feminism-based plotline.

What makes foreign movies inherently better? What makes black and white films better than films from the 80s? Anything at all? If not, then why are these questions relevant?
Let me ask you something. Do you find yourself to be an intelligent person? If so, do you think your tastes in films are a side-effect of that self-described intelligence?

I don't think foreign films are better. I like American and foreign. I don't think black and white films are better. I like both color and black and white. I like a lot of old films and a lot of new films. Yes I'm intelligent because I don't limit myself to any one country or era of filmmaking but you clearly do limit yourself.

I don't have any limits and that doesn't make me or you intelligent. But you do think your film tastes are a side effect of your intelligence then? In that case, your words have no merit in a discussion of films. You don't have tastes or measures worth discussing with others. You have egotistical ideations that hinge on your own self-absorbed constructions. This is why we have a containment general on Cinemaphile. I'd prefer if you stay there.

It's ok, everyone forgets how integral Max was in Fury Road.
If it wasn't for Max going back to the rear of the rig and hooking up the hydraulics, the War Party would have caugh up to them in the canyon.
If it wasn't For Max, the war rig wouldn't have made it out of the canyon.
Max was defending the War Rig just as much in the scene, shooting AND driving at the same time.
If it wasn't for Max, they would have got stuck in the bog at night and the entire war party would have caught up, he left explosives in the tracks knowing they'd be following.
Max took out the Bullet Farmer and his guys by himself.
Max stopped all the women from being moronic and driving out into the salt plains and gave them a new plan.
The list goes on and on.

Chapters. Torture porn first act. No ATJ in the entire first hour. Bloated plot about a competing warlord who never stood a change at anything, considering Joe basically owns that part of the Wasteland with allies out the ass.
Inferior CGI action slop. A slightly interesting middle until it gets bogged down by the plot again. Dumb as frick ending. Pic related. Also the end credits that were basically saying ''Watch a better movie instead"

                Anonymous

You're not wrong about most of that, but you're ignoring the extreme spectacle of some of the best done action scenes in a modern film. And it hits that spectacle without being bogged down by anything more than a mediocre plot.
Comparing to FR, the plot was less homosexual by several grades (you'll never convince me saving a bunch of women from patriarchy personified is a good plot), the characters were far less insufferable (ATJ is 1000x better than Theron), and the worst of it was just bloat (definitely too long of a runtime).

If it was cut down, it'd be one of the best action films of the last 15 years. As is, it's still 1000x more watchable than FR, but overall about a 7/10.

Didn't break even in theaters so I'm not sure why people don't a spin-off sequel was going to do better than that. I found myself honestly ridiculously annoyed by her ruining the second escape. She could have let her boyfriend have a heroic sacrifice, dying in a blaze of glory and leaving his mark on the plains by destroying the bullet farm. Instead she interfered, got herself blasted because she couldn't wait five seconds for him to smash the pillar, and got them chased down leading to her arm getting shredded and her boyfriend to die a pathetic death getting dragged to a paste for mere entertainment.

That's kind of where I feel the feminism of the movie comes through. It's certainly not a feminist movie, but it follows a feminine mindset and punishes it accordingly. He could have died a hero saving his girl but her woman brain interfered instead granting him the slightest hope of survival, just for reality to kick in and it to be recognised as a moronic decision.

Isn't Furiosa entirely inconsequential to the movie too? Take her out and basically every plot point goes the same way. Dementus and Joe go through the same drama, Joe didn't even give a shit when Furiosa went missing, the rider guy probably dies after his Black person falls under the car but even if he survives he'd still end up doing his heroic sacrifice at the bullet farm. You will still get the war and it plays out the exact same, Dementus still dies. Furiosa Saga? As if.

      Anonymous

Yeah, she kinda had no bearing on the plot overall. Movie would've been 100x better if it was just about the war between Joe and Dementus, with Furiosa as a side character.

She was the trade that cemented the relationship between Joe and Dementus. She also keeps the truck going back and forth the whole movie, she is about as consequential as she was in FR.

Joe clearly didn't care all that much seeing as Rictus lost her and they never bothered to search. She wasn't that important to the deal. Heck, I don't even think he got to frick her before she escaped. He didn't clue in that Furiosa was the same person either.

          >never bothered to search
They probably did, it goes right into a time lapse though. A scene where Joe flips out before getting back to business wouldn't really add much to the movie, since you can infer that she was just the latest addition to his harem and it didn't break the bank to lose her.

i wasn't going to go see this and it had nothing to do with the casting or the feminism but just because i never understood the hype for the first Fury Road

i mean it was a decent popcorn action flick but multiple Oscars-worthy? cmon now

It was a movie full of great action. Good music, effects looked practical (even if they weren't always so), memorable moments like the massive sandstorm. Best pure action movie of the last decade.
