THE CREATOR HAS SPOKEN

>Discussing the Star Wars sequels made after he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012 (for $4.05 billion), Lucas said the new corporate bosses got a lot wrong.

>“I was the one who really knew what Star Wars was … who actually knew this world, because there’s a lot to it. The Force, for example, nobody understood the Force,” he said. “When they started other ones after I sold the company, a lot of the ideas that were in [the original] sort of got lost. But that’s the way it is. You give it up, you give it up.”

Should've "gave it up" before the special editions.

No shit. It's fricking crazy to learn that he made the special editions only to find out that he only wrote and directed the first one and therefore was modifying someone elses art.

Irvin Kershner had no problem with Empire's special edition and Lucas even asked him about it before doing it.

And Return of the Jedi's director was basically George's puppet.

Empire is the least modified so it makes sense. Then again the post prequel release heavily changes the vader/emporeor scene.

George had 100% ownership of the production company, no one could force him to do anything he didnt want to do with any of the OT. He had complete control of everything and this notion that other directors were brought in to reign him in or whatever is preposterous

      >When they started other ones after I sold the company, a lot of the ideas that were in [the original] sort of got lost.
That's because they haven't had any writers who give a shit about the spirituality of the Force. The closest we have is Dave Filoni, maybe. But like... they introduced these sacred texts, but do you know what they fricking say?

      From the comics, C-3PO translates:
      >The Force is the light, the Force is the dark. Jedi choose the light, for all it reveals.
      Rey responds:
      >You know, I like that. Seems like a lovely place to begin.
But it's fricking nothing! This was supposed to be deep lore and it's the same shit Luke learned in the first five minutes of learning about the Force! Nobody knows what the frick they're doing with the Jedi. Certainly not Jar Jar Abrams. The Last Jedi specifically explained away the whole Rey/Ben connection with Snoke, and then Rise of Skywalker goes "Haha nope, dyad or whatever," and then introduces a whole new load of bullshit with "All the Sith/Jed," and what the frick is that even supposed to mean? The Sith aren't body-hopping throughout its history, Palpatine is specifically doing something Sith don't do. And the only Jedi who were able to survive death were Qui-Gon, Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Anakin, why are all the other Jedi suddenly retaining consciousness? They need to make up their damn minds on the afterlife, this isn't some EU "make up whatever shit you want, retcon all you want" bullshit, you're trying to maintain a continuity here.

      Don't be a c**t about this.

The reality is Lucas' view of the Force vis a vis the Whills is fricked up and can't be adapted into anything because people could only conclude the Force is evil.

It's kind of like the book of Job.

Are you sure about this? I don't recall midi-chlorians referenced anywhere in 1977, or before that when the early scripts and treatments came. Given that '77 was, you know, the year the first movie was actually released.

You're going to need a more exact source, buddy. I just googled the original Journal of the Whills (where we first see Mace Windy), and I'm not seeing anything about midi-chlorians.

Lucas watched Star Trek become TNG and DS9 and VOY and so on. The world Roddenberry made got handed off and they made some wonderful and interesting stories and characters.

Lucas then watched nothing anywhere near as similar happen to Star Wars.

Oh? Is that why the better movies are the ones you didn’t direct? Maybe you should have told yourself that when you were making a new hope, and everyone had to chase you around fixing your mistakes, or before having other people write and direct empire, you self aggrandizing piece of shit. George Lucas’ death will be a celebration.

The irony about this dumb take is that George Lucas was desperately trying to get another director for the prequels because he understood his weaknesses. But everyone turned him down due to reverence.

The miracle is that despite George Lucas’ clear weaknesses as a director, he still managed to make an incredibly memorable work of art which speaks to the strength of his ideas. He’s genuinely a talented executive producer and it’s a shame he wasn’t allowed to excel in that role due to the cowardice of other directors refusing to collaborate with him.
