The issue is Japan's copyright laws are seemingly random. You can't make a let's play of someone's visual novel on youtube, but you can use dubiously sourced AI generative tools to make material that can be sold? Even the US figured this one out already. If it's made with AI, you can't copyright it.

It bothers me every time someone sees a halfway decent AI slop image where everything's in the right place, text isn't weird, and there's the right number of fingers, and says "Now make it consistent" like that's some big gotcha when a year ago, even the best AI slop wasn't even halfway decent and you flat out couldn't do animation that wasn't "endless falling" or extremely and I mean extremely basic 2-second clips (and on that note, it CAN do consistency now, a few glitches with reality is the new "9 fingers on one hand").
It's not about what it can do now but what it will be able to do in 5 years.
