The Heathcliff cartoon is pretty wild.

Specifically the Catillac cats segments. I'm watching some on YT and they sexualize Cleo a lot, imply that her and Riff Raff are fricking, and treat catnip like a drug.

Cleo was pretty to look at but the car was

Even as a kid I loved how they were pretty badass in their own cartoon but got their ass kicked in Heathcliff's parts.

I liked it because it was consistent with Heathcliff's characterization as a beast. I also liked how Heathcliff was only a menace if you provoked him first, which the Catillac Cats were sure to have done in the past based on their characterization.

Yes. Heathcliff also never interacted with RiffRaff outside the end credits either. Always thought it was weird how the other three could show up in Heathcliff shorts but those two were never in the same story.

Seriously how do you go from Mysterious Cities of Gold to Super Duper Sumos?

DiC was basically a giant internal Ponzi scheme: they funded cartoons using the budgets ear-marked for future projects, which collapsed when kids animation became saturated and they received fewer contracts. Even in the 80s they always stood for "Do It Cheap."
Why was Mysterious Cities of Gold so good? Because it was outsourced to Studio Pierrot.

and losing TMS to both Disney and Warner Bros, thus outsourcing to cheaper animation in the '90s. Hammerman with stiff animation was a warning sign that things were about to suck. The "Tex Avery" cartoon in '97 showed how far DiC had fallen from grace. Super Duper Sumos was the nadir point and Horseland & Sushi Pack were DiC's last gasp before going defunct in '09.

Not that I am complaining about how TV was like back then, that is. I’m just laughing because the older generations have seem to just completely block out memories of their television

I think (and this is just a GAME THEORY, so take it easy) that this is a difference between lots and lots of openly sexy suggestions without anything outright stated (back then) vs blatantly talking about fricking without showing it (now).

        Anonymous

Their memories are because prime time and even post-watershed TV was a lot cleaner compared to now. With kids shows they've become more sanitized compared to then, but that's also because of the people who grew up on previous shows wisening up to the tricks that older creators used to get stuff past the censors, plus the rise of the furry fandom making cartoon animals no longer acceptable for that kind of material.

Is your first sentence more about live action?

            Anonymous

Both, but TV is TV, and being live action or animated doesn't change which regulations and censors it's subject to. If anything it proves their point, because there's more adult-oriented cartoons today, where's even back in the late 80s and early 90s it was hilariously controversial when Bart Simpson was just a typical rebellious kid and that was a primetime sitcom for adults.

In the French version, Riff-Raff is voiced by the same guy who dubbed Bruce Willis. Awesome voice actor, who really gave a unique personality to the character.
It's one of the perks of growing up watching dubbed movies, you get to hear Robin Williams, Harrison Ford and Silvester Stallone (or rather: their voices) dubbing random cartoon characters.

When I was a kid my babysitter was a blonde with a similar 'ponytail over the shoulder' cut, and that combined with the height difference between her and Riff Raff always made my little-kid brain assume she WAS his babysitter who was also dating him. Goes without saying that this caused quite a few hangups later in life. It's probably one of the reasons I've never dated a woman younger than me.
