It takes three and a half hours to do what The Sopranos manages to do in like two scenes. Feels superfluous, he shoulda stopped making gangster pictures afterGoodfellas.

Scorsese's best and one of the greatest 21st century movies. It's grandiose and has a tragic plot which is even more poignant when we consider ghat the directors and the cast are in their twilight years.

It's pretty great. Probably the last movie of its kind. The fact that all the criticism of it you read on Cinemaphile is of the shallowest variety should tell you something.
The de-aging tech is front-and-centre throughout the film. Scorcese continually puts this special effect into our view. So, if the effect is not good, that is a problem deserving of comment.

They do, but not to the extent than anything less than perfect realism detracts from everything else. There is a ton to love about the Irishman if you can get over the effects.

The beat down scene is just an clear example of the film's major flaw. DeNiro is an old man. No amount of cgi can hide that. So you get ridiculous meme scenes like "here's that kid I was telling you about".
The way he walks, the way he talks, it's clearly an old man. They should've hired a body double and cgi'd his face on top. But Scorsese just wanted to work with his buddy and the film is worse for it.
Additionally, it was so fricking bloated. It should've 2.5 hours. 3 at a push. Scorsese was given too much leeway when a competent editor should've forced him to cut it down massively.
But when it's good, it's great. Shame
