On the contrary, I think Scott is kind of stupid. That's alright, because he's made several incredibly good films that remain legendary for all time, and it doesn't and has never precluded himself from making good films, since directing is not an IQ test and making films is a collaborative process reliant on countless factors of which the director's personal intelligence is not necessarily the most important. There are very moronic bad directors, but there are very intelligent bad directors too, it's a complicated process.

But it remains true nonetheless, that he is kind of an idiot.

I like Scorsese’s catalog overall but he did sign that letter defending Roman Polanski and he’s a libtard. White men gave him his career and he took a piss on them with Robert DeNiro killing Indians: the movie

I feel the same for Michael Keaton losing to Eddie Redmayne in 2014. Both cases of a once in a lifetime role for a veteran actor with a lot of ups and downs in their career and life, which incorporated a lot of their circumstances into the role in a way that no other actor could have played, losing to...a basic and forgettable biopic role. I only recall Penn's role in regards to him winning over Rourke, but the entirety of The Wrestler is burned into my mind in spite of only seeing the film once, on release, 16 years ago. I've had no need to see it again. How often does that happen in a role?

He just isn't a great director, just like Scott, Lucas, Coppola etc he got lazy and ruch after his brief decade or two of successful auterism, his contemporary output quality relies entirely on modern Hollywood crews which means mediocrity.

      Anonymous

Lucas didn't "get" lazy so much as he was always lazy. Physically, not creatively. I mean literally he is lazy and doesn't like to move very much if he can help it. Watching the prequel behind the scenes is so funny, he's very interested in the general development and creative process of iterating designs and visuals and details, but he is so fricking lazy as a dude, he just wants to sit and have things happen in front of him, he doesn't want to wait and walk and go around doing the little ins and outs of filmmaking, which inevitably is a slow, tedious and involved process.

Completely bad opinion. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The Color of Money, Bringing Out The Dead, Silence, these are all 7+/10 films. His 2000s blockbuster dramaslop like Departed Gangs of New York and Wolfnof Wall Street is better than any of his contemporaries, especially Spielberg.

The movie was fine, but I felt for all of its statements and its runtime it didn't actually focus on the Osage tribe very much, they kind of just occupied the general role of sad victims of the main characters. Maybe a few scenes of DeNiro being evil and Leo being dumb could be exchanged for more insight into the Native characters?

And yet, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, etc, didn't win big at the Oscars, Taxi won no Oscars, and the other two only won an acting Oscar, nothing for Best Director or Best Picture or anything.

It's not like they weren't critical successes. Ebert called Taxi Driver one of the best films he had ever seen when it came out. But for some reason Scorsese always came up short at the Oscars, some other film had the momentum every time.

"Massive eyebrows" is not an excuse, the hairs I'm talking about are not on his eyebrows but between them and some are so low they're growing on his nose. Literally 10 seconds to fix and you're good for a week or longer.
