It's pretty sad. This could've been the status quo with a new (and quite popular) Superboy for generations. Action and Superman both sold in the 40-45,000 range from month to month. Those are good numbers in this day and age. Super Sons was a solid title that people liked and sold pretty well.
And then, Bendis wrecked everything. Jon was aged up. Clark revealed his secret identity yet again, which nobody wanted. Soon afterwards, it was bisexual lovers and Planet Hulk/Edgar Rice Burroughs stories all around.
Now the character is in major trouble. Superman Son of Kal-El is well out of the top 50 and plummeting like a stone. Action Comics barely cracks the top 100 if it's lucky. Story-wise, Superman is returning to earth, but since the Bendis shit remains (PKJ doesn't seem to want to change anything), nobody cares. Such is the state of Superman and DC Comics.
Its a bit overrated, and giving Superman a son really isn't a good idea in concept(even if the execution ended up fine).
But, I do agree it was the last "good" era.
