It was fun. Classical music, the unique premise of coordinating their movements, the fact that it only happens once. Yeah, I'm thinking a comfy episode tbqh
it still has some important characterization mixed in too, it shows shinji being judgemental rather than just withdrawn and has him come to actually respect misato and start to sorta understand something about her when she shows that she can be professional and heroic too. plus its the first hint that nerv is involved in outright shady business
The first half of the series is really fucking lame. I quit several times through: the characters were annoying, and most of the plot was boring as fuck (oh wow it's another monster attack rise repeat, oh wow Shinji is being a little bitch again rinse and repeat). It's only past half-way through that it starts to pick up and get more interesting beyond the initial premise.
It's why the earlier rebuild movies are better, they streamlined so much of the samey grind from the first half of the series.
Were there any big well budget anime movies lately that weren't a Makoto Shinkai shitfest and was even remotely original or they completely gave up on feature length films?
You're correct but when you watch anime at the right age childhood to teenage years it's perfect for you. Generally anime sucks but some of them explore different themes and aesthetics that you would never see in the West. Cartoons in the West are either for children or gross adult cartoons like Family. Anime provides interesting plots(for an anime), beautiful visuals, and thrilling action. It felt good to be a weeb from like 11 to 15 and it felt even better to move on from it as a better person overall.
Incorrect. I used to make fun of weebs at that age as well and I found anime boring as fuck. You have to be autistic to like it. I would have bullied moot to suicide if he was in my school.
>but when you watch anime at the right age childhood to teenage years it's perfect
I watch Girls Bravo when I was like 9 and I think I can pinpoint that as the point where I passed into chronic coomerdom.
If we're talking anime experience as impressionable youth I think the scene from Ghost in the Shell SAC where our ""hero"" Batou double tap executes a special forces mech pilot in the cranium got me. Watching that on Tonnami in 2000-whatver probably irrevocably warped my conception of what a hero is and does

I agree that a near one-for-one remake of the series is pointless, but you cannot watch 3.33 and 3.0+1.0 and say they're perfect with a straight face. I barely respect the third rebuild for the unique direction it took, but any investment I had in the movies was deflated by the shitty fanservice, nightmarish CG, and kitschy action. The fourth one is god damn incoherent after the village half.

4 is WAY better than 3. 3 is basically a complete waste of time where barely anything happens.
The rebuilds are fucking retarded but 1 and 2 are a nice revisit of the series if you want to see the show redone with a modern flair of incredibly inferior cgi, colors, shots, etc.
Rebuild is pretty ass. The first two movies are retreads of the first 16 episodes or so of the original, just with all the character introspection that makes eva interesting cut out. The last two try to make up for lost time while also adding poorly conceived new concepts, and the result are two of the worst movies I've ever seen.
If you really want more eva I'd say read the official manga. Its not as good as the original, but it has some nice art and some of the alternative takes on the main characters are interesting.

I'm honestly most partial to 3.0 out of all the rebuilds, mostly because it feels the most unique out of them, but I have to say that it barely functions as a movie. Its at most a 20 minute plotline that gets stretched out somehow to be one hour and thirty minutes, and the characters all act like they have severe brain damage. Also I hate that it reduced Kaworu to walking fujo bait whose entire existence revolves around Shinji's happiness.
Now 4.0 I'll admit I'm pretty sour on because of the rave reviews I see for it, but I think it fails on its own by trying to say something on eva as a whole but offering nothing of substance. And the callbacks to the original were just pathetic, bringing back giant naked rei was a blatant act of desperation because the crew couldn't come up with anything a tenth as evocative as the imagery from the original. Also somehow the cgi in 4.0 looks worse than it did in 1.0 which is absolutely insane when you see the kind of money that gets pumped into these movies.

Wasn't impressed by the series really but EoE is pure unfiltered kino. It also helps if you are a bit on the depressed/existential crisis end of things some of the themes make more sense because that was the mindset of the creator while he was making it.

The fuel for the rocket since clearly none of the energetics and detonator went off.
In real life this would only happen if the missile wasnt properly set up before being launched.
i cant believe i dropped klk the first time i tried to watch it. When i went back to try again a year or two later idk what i was thinking the first time
Yeah this is certainly a part of it, people remember like one or two great productions from a decade and think "ugh they don't make it like this anymore" even though of course they were still outliers back then
I think you 'had to be there' to get this show. I tried to watch it, to binge it. I tried to get into it, the premise sounds great. But boy is it a big bunch of fucking nothing.
I cried multiple times watching One Piece and I have no shame admitting that.
Unironically this. I am VERY late to the party on this one, and started watching this a while back (now in the early 300s). I've lost count of how many times I've choked while watching. Granted, I'm usually drunk, but still...I enjoy it.

I finally started one piece maybe 6 months ago. I havent found any of it to be particularly good. I stopped after skypiea arc, maybe will pick it back up at some point but seems like i should be enjoying it somewhat after nearly 200 episodes.
Nah, man, no need to force it. If you lasted 200, you gave your due diligence; it just isn't for you. I watched Neon Genesis Evangelionin its entirety and thought it was just whiny teenage angst bullshit (granted, I'm near 50). I've watched quite a few other series in their entierety; some resonated, and some just left me annoyed for the time I'll never get back.
TL;DR: Like what you like; dump what you dont, unless someone has tied you to a chair and is forcing you to watch shit.
>Everyone dies someone kiddo >This is a place you all made together so you could find one another...Nobody does it all alone. You needed them and they needed you.
Anywhere to watch this streaming besides N-flix? Why doesn't N-Flix have the fucking Japanese audio at least if they made their own dub, they only have their dub version. Suck my dick I don't want that.
The reason why modern anime is an unsalvagable piece of shit is not only budget, it's the entire generation behind it. Up till the 80s there were a ton of experienced people behind art & writing, these Japs had actual lifes, maybe even fought in WW2, basically what I'm trying to say they weren't fucked up Otakus, or at least weirdos with life experience outside of internet. Japan completely fucked itself however. It's an inhuman society of working yourself to death and they refuse to adapt, so they generate a shitton of Otakus that refuse to get out, and what's left of those guys that tought themselves how to draw, end up making all that moeshit for easy money. There's absolutely zero hope of things returning to the quality standards of the 80s, that society is completely fucked.
I can't disagree when I look at the recent waves of isekai self inserting wish fulfillment bullshit. The state of the industry is much worse than even 10 years ago
industry is almost entirely self-fellating otaku aiming for the lowest common denominator
its why there's barely ever anything good to watch
i call myself a weeb but i haven't even really watched anime more than giving a few things a shot (they usually suck). last thing i actually watched fully was kuchuu buranko and only because of the unique premise, i havent given a shit about anime really since 2008 honestly.
there's a scene in an outer-space bathhouse where they're all naked and one of the characters starts describing the effects of zero-gravity on her breasts
>that microscopic moment the Major looks down at her handgun after wrestling with a multi million dollar piece of military hardware, realizing how vulnerable she really is
That whole sequence is so great. SAC has some of the best blocked action sequences and music I've seen in a tv show ever. And it's criminal how NOBODY ever talks about it on /a/. GitS probably has more threads on Cinemaphile because as dumb as we all are the Cinemaphile demographic still fundamentally understands the visual medium better than /a/nons do and don't bother with the absolute trash that floats around there.
the Stiller directed episodes have such amazing cinematography and the story is engaging with interesting characters. Its a real shame s2 will have no chance of following through story wise. I get the feeling this will be westworld all over again
Yeah every Japanese person thinks like that
Also every missile works the exact same way, even in futuristic sci-fi settings that have giant fighting robots in them
American Dad - Finances With Wolves
(the muffin kiosk episode)
I was watching AD more out of lethargy than love during the first season, although a lot of those episodes had some pretty killer jokes that kept me watching. Finances With Wolves was the point when I realized this was a really good show with a different identity from Family Guy.
OP here, this wasn’t supposed to be an EVA thread cos fuck that. Share personal kino moments, those are interesting but I promise you there is nothing interesting about why you don’t like something.
For me it was when the car takes off in Repo Man, the musical que is perfectly timed and it just works really well as this kind of release for the scene and the film in general
I didn't look up anything about the movie before watching, just that it was Park directing. The way the movie is structured makes some scenes get me really bad.
I used to have the DVD box set waaaay back in the day, I think around 2000 - 2002, but I don't have that anymore. What's the best version of this to now? I don't watch anime much anymore but I'd like to revisit this once.
>WHAT THE HELL IS THAT >whats going on >we dont know >all our meters and gauges are going off the scale >but we havent done anything yet >you think it could be Shinji? >thats impossible, Unit 01's power level must be at zero!

It's kind of a prerequisite to be on this site
Eva is complete trash.
Wasn't impressed by the series really but EoE is pure unfiltered kino. It also helps if you are a bit on the depressed/existential crisis end of things some of the themes make more sense because that was the mindset of the creator while he was making it.
Grapes of Wrath. Pic related is the first shot.
>le gloomy dark aesthetic shot
Did the MC smoke also?
yes, but it's a b&w film from the 40s, everyone smoked
A good looking, depressed guy smoking a cigarette, is not a movie.
Interesting franchise, but needs massive rewrites.
>Well...here I...am.
doing everything I can
holding on to what I am
pretending I'm a superman
So what exactly exploded there?
Jet fuel it can't melt AT-field though
The fuel for the rocket since clearly none of the energetics and detonator went off.
In real life this would only happen if the missile wasnt properly set up before being launched.
dogshit quality but best I could find
>KLK
Patrician taste, anon
i cant believe i dropped klk the first time i tried to watch it. When i went back to try again a year or two later idk what i was thinking the first time
Only good thing about this show/movie is the animation
It’s not even that good. Such a low frame rate compared to other animated movies. it’s boring to watch
>can't even appreciate the 11/10 cinematography and editing
Your plebitude floors me.
Worth the +1 hour wait, amazing movie.
(Dark City)
>when you noclip outside the map bounds
>telling people to watch the movie by spoiling the ending
Great idea dude
Why didn't these angel chuds just find a different planet to populate, wtf is their problem? First come first served, Lilith was already here.
The central theme of the show are mommy issues.
Lilith is the mother of the angels?
probably sooner but this is the only screenshot I had handy.
Are we sticking strictly to Cinemaphile or is /a/ good too?
this is my /a/ entry
here i when i knew i was watching cine:
Zeiram has nice designs and decent animation but is an absolutely trash story.
Live action version is fun
>the moment you realised you were watching kino
DOOON GIOVANNIIIII
it took you that long?
right from the cover
Pasta?
I'm not a weeb, but how did everything look so much better then compared to now?
digital coloring and appealing to pedophiles ruined anime
It's made to appeal to 14 year olds
>complains about pedophiles
>posts rem who is 18
cell animation vs digital animation
industry brain drain, changing tastes and cherry picking.
industry realized that they can get away with very cheap production with fanservice, i hate otaku culture so much
It just seems like that because no one remembers all the cheap seasonal productions of the 80s and 70s, only the standout labors of love.
Yeah this is certainly a part of it, people remember like one or two great productions from a decade and think "ugh they don't make it like this anymore" even though of course they were still outliers back then
Anime, for the last 15 years, has been made by people who hate other people, for people who hate other people.
And that's a good thing
There's still diamonds out there, just gotta look for em
I think you 'had to be there' to get this show. I tried to watch it, to binge it. I tried to get into it, the premise sounds great. But boy is it a big bunch of fucking nothing.
I feel the same, many episodes aren't special and drag on. But the movie was really good
I never watched this while it aired, took me like 5 years at least to watch it and i still very much enjoyed it.
>HITORI BOCCHI NO CHRISTMAS EVE
HERO KENZAN
HERO KENZAN
HERO KENZAN
gonna go cry a bit
Ping Pong is such a fucking masterpiece. Spoiler warning for anyone who hasn't seen it.
Manly tears
Same tbh. It is aggressively trying too make you feel for the characters that it sometimes comes off as manipulative.
Thanks for not using the newer version.
>Everyone dies someone kiddo
>This is a place you all made together so you could find one another...Nobody does it all alone.
True. Same goes for the modern film industry. Most people too busy wageslaving to make kinos. And of the percentage that do they make lame shit.
I can't disagree when I look at the recent waves of isekai self inserting wish fulfillment bullshit. The state of the industry is much worse than even 10 years ago
industry is almost entirely self-fellating otaku aiming for the lowest common denominator
its why there's barely ever anything good to watch
i call myself a weeb but i haven't even really watched anime more than giving a few things a shot (they usually suck). last thing i actually watched fully was kuchuu buranko and only because of the unique premise, i havent given a shit about anime really since 2008 honestly.
evangelion ruined an entire generation of teenagers.
This was anime kino of the highest order.
damn I didn't know there were titties in this show
this show was just full of unnecessary shots of tits at random times.
oh they're always necessary
there's a scene in an outer-space bathhouse where they're all naked and one of the characters starts describing the effects of zero-gravity on her breasts
If I liked devil man crybaby will I like this show
well the protagonist is also a crybaby so maybe
Why does it keep pushing forward once it's stopped
Shit tier animation
The interplay of music and animation in this scene made me fall in love with this series.
The opening of Gits is fucking perfect
Is this good? I've only ever seen the original movie, and only once.
Both Stand alone complex and secong gig are amazing series. Can't recommend them enough.
>that microscopic moment the Major looks down at her handgun after wrestling with a multi million dollar piece of military hardware, realizing how vulnerable she really is
That whole sequence is so great.
Nobody talks about it on /a/ because its 16 years old
nobody talks about it on /a/ because they're 16 years old
>you have to talk about the same thing over and over again because... you just have to!
good art should be discussed and celebrated forever
I AM CALLING CALLING OUT!
SPIRITS, I AM CALLING!!!!
SOBOY OSTAT'SYA DOL'SHE
CALLING CALLING, IN THE DEPTHS OF LONGING
SOBOY OSTAT'SYA DOL'SHE
Haha, wtf is that trash ReBoot-tier animation?
This looks like a favela in the thumbnail kek
Why would this be the moment you knew you were watching kino?
wat dis?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powell_and_Pressburger
God I love this movie
Do you know... Naatu?
the Stiller directed episodes have such amazing cinematography and the story is engaging with interesting characters. Its a real shame s2 will have no chance of following through story wise. I get the feeling this will be westworld all over again
Well they said they already had a complete story before they started production so we will see what happens.
>the moment you realized you were watching Kino
Do Japanese people think missiles hit their targets like bullets and then explode or something?
That fucking ICBM should have detonated before it ever touched him.
Yeah every Japanese person thinks like that
Also every missile works the exact same way, even in futuristic sci-fi settings that have giant fighting robots in them
KWAAAAAAAN - LOOOOOOOOOO
.
Shinji would unironically like Morbius
>OR something you would end up loving
When Guu ate the birb
What is the absolute most kino scene in Eva?
The one where Unit 01 Goes Berzerk?
Omedetou imo
Or when shinji gets cocky and is swallowed by the angel’s “”shadow”” and is stuck in the sea
>the moment you realised you were watching kino
American Dad - Finances With Wolves
(the muffin kiosk episode)
I was watching AD more out of lethargy than love during the first season, although a lot of those episodes had some pretty killer jokes that kept me watching. Finances With Wolves was the point when I realized this was a really good show with a different identity from Family Guy.
OP here, this wasn’t supposed to be an EVA thread cos fuck that. Share personal kino moments, those are interesting but I promise you there is nothing interesting about why you don’t like something.
picrel was great but this scene made me feel sick
the classic OP image mistake
For me it was when the car takes off in Repo Man, the musical que is perfectly timed and it just works really well as this kind of release for the scene and the film in general
>cos fuck that
No u
cried like a bitch when they started singing
>this wasn’t supposed to be an EVA thread cos fuck that.
I didn't look up anything about the movie before watching, just that it was Park directing. The way the movie is structured makes some scenes get me really bad.
Source?
Boku no pico.
NGE EPISODE ONE
now quick, leave before someone tells you it sucks ass and to Jill yourself
It does suck ass. It’s anime
>anime is bad because... the Japanese are genetically inferior, okay!
I HATE SHINJI SO FUCKING MUCH IT'S UNREAL
probably sometime around here
15 year old me read this shit in summer 2004 and thought I was witnessing pic fiction
peak fiction*
rock lee vs. gaara is one of the most popular battles from naruto so it's at least peak anime.
>how to spot a spic 101
Retarded phoneposter
The future is NOW old man
sexy
KINO
I used to have the DVD box set waaaay back in the day, I think around 2000 - 2002, but I don't have that anymore. What's the best version of this to now? I don't watch anime much anymore but I'd like to revisit this once.
sephirotic BD rip
>watching tranime as an adult or older teenager
ngmi
this and the birthday party scene legit traumatised me for months when I saw them when I was a nipper
When the possessed corpse got off the gurney and grabbed ahold of the nurse in Legend of the Overfiend.
what is this? guyver?
>WHAT THE HELL IS THAT
>whats going on
>we dont know
>all our meters and gauges are going off the scale
>but we havent done anything yet
>you think it could be Shinji?
>thats impossible, Unit 01's power level must be at zero!
SHHHKKKRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOONNNKKKKKKK
>my god is that what im piloting
>god in heaven what kind of monster have we made this from
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
the first Unit 01 REEEEEEEE was kino
this scene had me standing in my seat
Anno has a directorial eye.
I had already been immensely enjoying it but this scene when the song fades in, I knew it pure kino.
