That's why this episode was moronic. They showed one family, and we don't even know how many of that alien race owned kaylons, yet all of them got wiped out, even the babies. And how the hell did they put lasers in all the kaylons heads, but as you said, couldn't just turn off or remove the pain receptors?

The fact that the factory was willing to send out bug fixes to enforce subservience should kinda be a big takeaway. No matter what the Kaylon did, they would meet immediate opposition. They were smart enough to realize that a protracted conflict might not go in their favor.

Also, they probably didn't bother with killing the babies.

I think so yeah. There was nothing particularly special about his story, he was just one of at least 50,000 robutts who went rogue, and he said he was one of the originally built Kaylons, so there's no reason why it would be a different one.

How much do you get paid to be an actor who has maybe 3 lines per season, spread out over as many episodes

      >SAG-AFTRA extras who are general background actors earn a base pay of $174 per 8-hour day. Non-union extras earn an average of $75 to $125 for an 8-hour work day.
      >If you are selected as a featured extra, the rates can go up substantially. As you can see from the Actors Feature Film Agreement a bit player with not more than 2 lines gets 40% more pay than a normal extra.

Even the muscle structure is the same as humans, look at the arm and those small ribs muscles. 2 eyes, a nose and a mouth with a chin positioned exactly like humans too. There is no in-world reason for them to be that close. They fricked up and created a ship design for the ayys that is extremely wide then realized their goof and had to make them almost touching to get the shot they wanted. Contrast this with a show like nuBSG that used less pretentious, more "natural" cinematography. So they could have ships of all shapes and sizes and just shoot them whichever way that worked, shake the camera a bit, and call it a day (and fans loved it).

I'll repeat it for you: there is no in-world reason for them to be that close to each other. Zero. Nill. None. Shuttles are designed to travel untold kilometers to transport their crew. Those two ships being that close is nothing but a liability.

              Anonymous

There is no in-world reason for them to be that close. They fricked up and created a ship design for the ayys that is extremely wide then realized their goof and had to make them almost touching to get the shot they wanted. Contrast this with a show like nuBSG that used less pretentious, more "natural" cinematography. So they could have ships of all shapes and sizes and just shoot them whichever way that worked, shake the camera a bit, and call it a day (and fans loved it).

You're getting yourself worked into a tizzy over nothing. There's no reason not to have the ships close together. They are not going to collide.

      >Dear lord glad they didn't ruin Isaac they could've just recorded his memory and then play it back like even analog would work lol what a cop-out
That woudl require them to think about their plot for more than five minute. That's not who they write. It's painfully obvious that they just start with a dramatic scene, or plot twist, or "moral lesson" that they want to sperg about and then write backwards from there. It's why every episode of The Orville has a million idiotic plot holes.

        Anonymous

my dude obviously they wanted to keep isaac as isaac instead of completely changing his character. It's futuristic space science fiction so of course they can justify whatever they want whenever they want. Sci-fi inevitably has idiotic plot holes, the point was just to give you a taste of what Isaac would be like with emotions. They might even revisit that plot point in the future like they have with others.

          Anonymous

No, moron. They obviously started with the "choice" they wanted Claire to have (just like they gave Ed and Gordon contrived "choices") and then they worked the plot backwards from there. They used moronic technobabble about Isaac's design to make that choice a thing but then are forced to handwave when obvious things are pointed out like just simulate his memory back to him. Even Star Trek did that with Spock in the movies.

I have a feeling they're going to fumble the conclusion of the whole Kaylon war. They just showed us their magical tech excuse for ending it quick. Then they treated Isaac like a disposable appliance just for the sake of establishing that he's immune to it. It would be better to leave the conflict unresolved than to end it like this.

It disappoints me because all the episodes before this one were great. I see the beginning of a slow train wreck.

They're always going to go for the stupid joke even if it means their show makes no sense and their characters are undermined. They will literally look at you and wonder why you even care so much.

Why do they do shit like this in every episode?

Because the people who make it don't share your politics or your cultural values and really want to be able to insert their gay bullshit and partisan sperging whenever they can.

        Anonymous

They shit all over the feminist aliens the whole show like they were moronic rednecks. Also compared them as equally batshit to the gay ass mocclans.

          Anonymous

I did like seeing Bortus be the main one to call them out but with how vocal they are about hating his species it was hypocritical of them to barely talk about it.

            Anonymous

It was short-changed as a plot because they had 3 fricking plots running in an hour. Femaliens/robotfeels/dangersex Show would have been better if they cut the dangersex plot down to just a single advancing scene of Lamar getting hurt but instead they played out the whole plot line in one episode. TNG would have sprinkled that character shit over multiple episodes.

              Anonymous

It's the extra 15 minutes every episode. A lot of extra scenes that should have been cut are kept in the running time. The whole bit with Ed and Gordon carrying the luggage wouldn't have made it more than one simple sight gag, and instead it ran how long?

You saw what you wanted to see because you're invested in The Orville being some kind of answer to woke propaganda that it clearly, demonstrably is not.

            Anonymous

The only problem I had with mocclan gays is they dominated screen time in S1&2 to the detriment of the other characters. You're not going to get any shows with zero woke shit in them because the people that make the shit are in that bubble. You just take it on a case by case basis and Orville hasn't lost me so it's doing better than nu-trek prior to SNW.

People would have laughed at a one-off gay porn gag in "Primal Urges". The problem was it just keeps going on and on and it became cringe. It turned off a lot of normies. My parents were even watching the show early on and never brought it up or watched it again after that.

                Anonymous

The problem was they would put out a great episode and you're like "aw yess" and then you're excited for next week and it's "homosexual shit hour" and you're disappointed. And then it happened again....and again. I would almost prefer it went the nutrek track and was so shit I could ignore it altogether but when Orville's good it really scratches that itch so I gots to see if it's a good week or troonyhomosexual sjw story hour week every week.

It's pretty true to life. People get frustrated and scream and swear at virtual assistants when they frick up too much, I could totally imagine them doing the same thing to a humanoid robot. All you have to do is convince people they're not sentient and all disobedience is malfunction, suddenly they'll be abusing the things left and right. Give them a "set right" button that fixes disobedience instantly and you think they won't use it?

They'll tell you it's because of DS9 and how she's "beloved" but it's a quarter-century too late for the storylines they're giving her. She's more like those kids grandmother than their mom. And it's really just a cope for Seth and the writer's gay Judy Garland -like fetish they have for her. Gays love simping for raggedy trainwreck women who are nominally "stunning"

99% of the time in these shows, if a girl says she loves/loved another girl, she is only attracted to girls. I'll be pleasantly surprised if this is not the case in Orville, but I'm not holding my breath for it.

either way it was just too hamfisted seth rehashing azimov hoping dummies who never read it will think seth is a genius.. the entire b-plot with the family was unnecessary

            Anonymous

Certainly unnecessary in the sense that we already knew the gist of why they rebelled. I'm all for showing instead of telling, but the time for that was last season when we first found out. Once you've used exposition, then all you can do is walk away and let the audience think of their own interesting filler.

What's dark here is that they showed us the robots being used as machines, and then they immediately abused Isaac in the same way without any awareness of it.

yeh i thought the original kaylon 2 -parter covered it. it was great at the time to me cuz you didn't expect a light hearted show to suddenly turn that leffield and get so dark

I actually like that they let him experience emotions for a while so he at least has that data. In a sense, he has proof that when he had emotions his own programming/neural system desired and appreciated having them and experiencing them.
I mean why would his own instruments lie to him about the effects of emotions? etc.
