It's very important to note that Aliens isn't canon, either. Ridley Scott hates the movie, and intentionally ignores everything it added to the series. The problem is that Prometheus is a shit and not fun version of AvP, which is a really cool and fun movie. "Prey" is absolutely borrowing from AvP's playbook.

As he should. Aliens, while a cool standalone action movie, is a rock-stupid sequel to the original; and the alien life cycle as described in the original script and the director's cut is way more interesting and original than Cameron's space termites.
After Covenant, heck after Prometheus Riddley Scott should shut up, Prometheus was a copy of AvP in nearly everything but was moronic in many parts this comes off as hilarious after RS trash talked that movie and makes one that is almost identical but worse (I don't care they were both inspired in the same story you don't trash talk something then you do nearly the same movie nearly 10 years later but worse).

It was shit. Low unit count even though the models are basic as frick, washed out colours, no base building, the only thing that changes between maps is the bland ground texture, there is nothing to see, no distinguishing features.
The FPS games got it right. Extinction was total frickup, I bought it on release so don't try and tell me it wasn't.

I find Prometheus pretty good. It’s very similar to original when looking at how things escalate but added some additional themes.
The one after that when David bombs the engineers, I don’t even know the name, now that one is a drag. The only good scene was the one where Fassbender has scene with himself.
Really wonder if they’ll let him do the third movie and what it will be like.
Prometheus gave me a strong impression that Ridley really wanted to explore the concept of the androids more deeply within the wider context of the pure animal brutality that is the Alien. This shouldnt come as a surprise of course, since he clearly was so interested in the topic in Blade Runner. The wider themes are thought were quite dull other than those that are expressed in the character of David, and without him it would be far, far worse
You could argue they never hunted humans until a point. In AvP they just used humans as slaves and hosts to grow more Aliens to practice on. Plus at a point in AvP they had to blow their bombs and abandon the facility.
Predators isn't the greatest but it's got some good scenes and generally captures the atmosphere of the original. All you have to do with remakes, if you insist upon making them, is not prioritize trying to stick it to whitey and show some deference to the sauce material and the film usually ends-up watchable
AvP has some interesting lore but is just so fricking bland and boring and feels like a missed oppertunity and AvP2 is hot garbage. The only AvP stuff I like is the stuff set in the Alien and Aliens era, where Weyland Yutani just can't and won't stop fricking around with ayyy lmaos and their tech. The AvP games get the atmosphere so fricking right. I haven't seen The Predator on purpose. Predators is an alright flick, kinda fricks with some old lore but whatever and it's not too drastic. Predator 2 is fricking great and the only white guys in the main cast is the butthole boss, the butthole feds and the comedic relief, the hero is a black guy and the two other main characters are spics. But it doesn't feel like it's made to shit on whites. I'm gonna get Prey the benefit of doubt here, because pitching pre-modern people of various cultures around the world against predators and aliens has been something people have been asking for movies about for ages and have made comics about several times. I think the most commonly proposed idea has been predator vs samurai.

I'm willing to argue Predator 2 was better than the original, but I'm also of the opinion that a lot of sequels are better than the first film (Ghostbusters, Hellraiser, Halloween, etc.) simply because they add a lot of what made the first film good but without having to give exposition or explanation of the events taking place. These sequels can get right into the good stuff without much buildup.

Agreed, and if you thibk back there are a lot of women leads that were great like Alien. The issue that modern movies seems to forget is flawed main characters as the ubder dog makes you root for them. If I know the main character has all the strengths and skills needed to win it removes that element where you care about the character. Similarly keeping the enemy mysterious is important because you don't know what they are capable of. Not sure why these 2 things are so hard to do.

First of all, notice I qualified my statement with "tentpole franchise"--Apocalypto was only ever meant to be a standalone movie that *might* have gotten a sequel or something if it'd done better. It wasn't intended as the first part of a trilogy or a series, let alone a goddamn cinematic universe. Moreover, Prey is part of an already-ongoing film series, making it more constrained by its predecessors (and the financial expectations of the studio) than something original.
Secondly, the only reason Apocalypto got made at all is because, in the mid-2000s, Mel Gibson was still a bankable leading actor, his previous directorial effort had done gangbusters (largely because of priests and preachers and the like telling their congregations "Watch this movie or literally go to hell!"), and, frankly, the man clearly knew all the right asses to kiss and all the right crimes to reveal he had incriminating knowledge of to get his way. There just really aren't that many directors still working with that kind of clout anymore, and the studios are doing everything they can to prevent new ones from emerging.

It's very important to note that Aliens isn't canon, either. Ridley Scott hates the movie, and intentionally ignores everything it added to the series. The problem is that Prometheus is a shit and not fun version of AvP, which is a really cool and fun movie. "Prey" is absolutely borrowing from AvP's playbook.

As he should. Aliens, while a cool standalone action movie, is a rock-stupid sequel to the original; and the alien life cycle as described in the original script and the director's cut is way more interesting and original than Cameron's space termites.
After Covenant, heck after Prometheus Riddley Scott should shut up, Prometheus was a copy of AvP in nearly everything but was moronic in many parts this comes off as hilarious after RS trash talked that movie and makes one that is almost identical but worse (I don't care they were both inspired in the same story you don't trash talk something then you do nearly the same movie nearly 10 years later but worse).

I find Prometheus pretty good. It’s very similar to original when looking at how things escalate but added some additional themes.
The one after that when David bombs the engineers, I don’t even know the name, now that one is a drag. The only good scene was the one where Fassbender has scene with himself.

Prometheus gave me a strong impression that Ridley really wanted to explore the concept of the androids more deeply within the wider context of the pure animal brutality that is the Alien. This shouldnt come as a surprise of course, since he clearly was so interested in the topic in Blade Runner. The wider themes are thought were quite dull other than those that are expressed in the character of David, and without him it would be far, far worse
You could argue they never hunted humans until a point. In AvP they just used humans as slaves and hosts to grow more Aliens to practice on. Plus at a point in AvP they had to blow their bombs and abandon the facility.

All you have to do with remakes, if you insist upon making them, is not prioritize trying to stick it to whitey and show some deference to the sauce material and the film usually ends-up watchable

Predators was a fricking Terminator 2-tier sequel compared to AvP, AvP 2 or The Predator.
AvP has some interesting lore but is just so fricking bland and boring and feels like a missed oppertunity and AvP2 is hot garbage. The only AvP stuff I like is the stuff set in the Alien and Aliens era, where Weyland Yutani just can't and won't stop fricking around with ayyy lmaos and their tech. The AvP games get the atmosphere so fricking right. I haven't seen The Predator on purpose. Predators is an alright flick, kinda fricks with some old lore but whatever and it's not too drastic. Predator 2 is fricking great and the only white guys in the main cast is the butthole boss, the butthole feds and the comedic relief, the hero is a black guy and the two other main characters are spics. I'm willing to argue Predator 2 was better than the original, but I'm also of the opinion that a lot of sequels are better than the first film (Ghostbusters, Hellraiser, Halloween, etc.) simply because they add a lot of what made the first film good but without having to give exposition or explanation of the events taking place. These sequels can get right into the good stuff without much buildup.

The issue that modern movies seems to forget is flawed main characters as the ubder dog makes you root for them. If I know the main character has all the strengths and skills needed to win it removes that element where you care about the character. Similarly keeping the enemy mysterious is important because you don't know what they are capable of. Not sure why these 2 things are so hard to do.

First of all, notice I qualified my statement with "tentpole franchise"--Apocalypto was only ever meant to be a standalone movie that *might* have gotten a sequel or something if it'd done better. It wasn't intended as the first part of a trilogy or a series, let alone a goddamn cinematic universe. Moreover, Prey is part of an already-ongoing film series, making it more constrained by its predecessors (and the financial expectations of the studio) than something original.
Secondly, the only reason Apocalypto got made at all is because, in the mid-2000s, Mel Gibson was still a bankable leading actor, his previous directorial effort had done gangbusters (largely because of priests and preachers and the like telling their congregations "Watch this movie or literally go to hell!"), and, frankly, the man clearly knew all the right asses to kiss and all the right crimes to reveal he had incriminating knowledge of to get his way. There just really aren't that many directors still working with that kind of clout anymore, and the studios are doing everything they can to prevent new ones from emerging.

The soldiers had a regenerating armour tech to solve the acid problem and a number of other imagined tech. Also described warring colonies of aliens vs aliens fighting one another l.
