Literally. If you were an elder zoomer (born 1997-99) Teen Titans was airing while you were in grade school.

These. The oldest zoomers are 27 and would've easily grown up with Teen Titans.

I'm 27, the exact age you've mentioned. Teen Titans was my shit as a kid and I watched the movie as it came out on Cartoon Network nearly 20 years ago.

It's one thing to talk about a subject, it's another to ramble off wikipedia articles and other online sources.
These essays largely lack any passion, they're flat out summaries. I will almost guarantee you the people who actually wrote the episodes or made the designs aren't even talked about because they're all very surface level.

I do find some great videos with interesting information on Cinemaphile media but they're generally not about cartoons. Most cartoon video essays end up in just summarizing shit. It's frustrating, especially with how much easier it is to actually reach out to creators than ever before.
I like listening to comic and Godzilla related videos because the people putting together the videos will do their best to find background information directly from the people involved in the creation of that media, and what lead to the final product.
Oliver Harper is probably one of the best for this sort of stuff and is like my standard for what I want out of video essays.

Honestly it's kinda disturbing and upsetting to me thinking there are going to be hundreds of thousands of people whose knowledge about media comes from Youtube recaps, and not from the actual media itself.

The difference is you guys don't need to settle for that anymore.
I remember in the 2000's desperately wanting to watch old tokusatsu shows from the 70's-early 2000's that were impossible for a 10 year old on a family computer to reliably get.
Now I can legally watch them for free on a service like Tubi.
It's probably easier more than ever to get the actual media-which is how these essays get made in the firstplace, so I don't get why you wouldn't at least engage with the media first.

I'm not talking about ease of access for people genuinely wanting to see stuff
I'm talking about people getting opinions from the opinions of others. Film, music, TV, I dunno fricking cuisine, are you going to tell me that you have not in your life defaulted to deciding what you think about something before or BECAUSE you didn't want to bother with experiencing it yourself?
And no I don't mean something like climbing Everest or folding a katana one million times. Just basic media

The thing you are talking about is exactly how criticism works. A critic is a professional taste have who can explain their opinion clearly and other people copy it. Take cuisine. I don't spend my life eating the best stuff from a variety of places. I trust cuisine critics to t err all me the French and Italian are among the best and that this certain restaurant is better than the best local place in my home town.

I hate videos like in OP but anon, critics are hackfrauds unable to create and paid corpo shills. Roger Ebert made a movie and it was garbage.

Maybe for something I'm not really interested in behind the surface level and know I will never watch, like a shlock reality show. Not much else. I'm pretty picky when it comes to reviews and I always despised plot summaries.

            Anonymous

Criticism in general is much more brief and concise. It's not really the same as 4 hour long essays which ramble on and are trying to give you the experience in a summary.
And again there's no real point in it when you can just pull up "watch____ online free" and just watch them yourself. People used to buy books of movie reviews because getting access to so many movies was unfeasible for most people. Now almost no one cares about "legit" critics because anyone can just review things and post online.

What OP posted isn't a video essay.

      Oh get over yourselves
Secondhand media substituting first hand experience of media is not fricking new you pearl clutching homosexuals
I guaranfrickingtee every single one of you are guilty of doing the same thing

Actually, I win here because I often try to read something before watching an adaptation (why I don't enjoy some classic movie adaptations).

But even so, while substituting an original with an adaptation has its own issues, at least the adaptation is unequivocally a work of art on its own. A plot summary is a cynical repackaging of the source material, which at least half of the viewers are probably not even watching but using as background noise, which makes it extra cynical.

If you are limited to video format that's the high IQ thing. Explains why the Whites beat every other race at war, inventing, etc.

Video essays are only low IQ compared to written essays where Whites are even more dominate.
