absolutely none of the uniforms in star trek have ever been useful. Ever since the TOS they've never even had pockets. Also, I never understood how their communicators worked. How do they know who they are dialing? The things just know.

and what do you do with it once you're done with it? Carry it around all day until you can throw it in the trash somewhere? You never see trash cans anywhere either.

They put a strap on the tricorder so they don't have to carry it around everywhere but there are other tools they constantly use that don't have one. Do they have replicators in every room and in ever hallway?

B5 doesn't actually have jump drives despite the name. Their tech opens portals into and out of subspace instead of how Trek stuff creates subspace fields around their ships to break the laws of physics.

Discovery can instantly jump to any given points in space.

the science in star trek has always been moronic. Absolutely nothing about it makes sense. How replicators work, how the holodeck works, how their anti-gravity works, how he warp drive works, how teleportation works, how their computers work, how impulse engines work, and the idea of a dilithium crystal is frickign moronic. It's even dumber that dilithium can't be made in replicators because of arbitrary plot reasons. They solved the heisenberg uncertainty principle, are able to arrange the quantum field strings down the the planck scale, and can replicate literally anything but not this one thing for reasons we can't say.

Oh but they mentioned dyson spheres one time so it's sciencey. Get the frick out of here.

TNG is philosophically always at odds with itself. They talk about the prime directive a hundred times but never follow it. They talk about using diplomacy and peace but the enterprise is clearly a war ship. It carries on it several hundred extremely powerful nuclear warheads and phasers that can delete mountains.

The warheads would have a blast radius of at least 50 miles and they fire them point blank at other ships. Not to mention the other inconsistencies with the weapons. Phasers that fricking miss all the time despite the ships being at most 1km away from one another. And when they get hit without their shields it does almost no damage despite again, being powerful enough to erase an entire mountain. The ships are made out of regular titanium and aluminum alloys. I can see shields taking a hit but a 65MT warhead? Fricking moronic.

They knew communism could never create a Federation where real good men come together, so they had to nix that. Also a communist nation could never create a show like Star Trek even in its simplistic low budget form.
It reeked of hatred for the original as did all the subsequent Treks. So frick Rick Berman and all the other communists that went out of their way from Trek II to now. Frick you!

In the last seasons, they cancel development of any further spore drive development despite it being infinitely better than warp drives.

the CG in discovery is pretty decent. It's leagues better than the shit in the older treks. I know how much gays love their models but they have always looked like cheap models with shitty cg pew pews added in. The lighting and compositing on them is never coherent either. The battles were always just two models slowly move away from one another as the camera pans just as slowly as the ships are moving.

Probably meaning the torpedoes are hitting the planet too quickly for the distance like it's a few kilometers away from the ship, or the planet is about the size of an asteroid.

Pretty much. The distance between the atmosphere and the ground doesn't make sense for the camera angle and the perspective given by the torpedoes makes the ship gigantic relative to the planet.

Might be a result of the low attention span of the writers or their assumed audience. Make everything go faster instead of having proper pacing.

It's probably why they came up with the instant teleport personal transporters that don't need a transporter room scene or even any actual targeting of the pattern to a specific location using any actual equipment. Just tap the badge and you magically teleport where you wanted to go, and can also do it while walking or flying in zero-g. Not even spending the time to stand still for five seconds for a normal transporter sequence.

photon torpedoes move at like 75% the speed of light. It would take about a second to travel a 1/4 million miles. basically from the moon to earth. The distance in that shot seems fine.

And you can say they put the photon torpedoes in a different location because of the spinning disc. it's all powered by anti-matter anyways so it's not like they would be any more dangerous if they were closer to the engines or farther away.

The torpedos are giant relative to the planet and small relative to the ship. For the scale of the ship relative to the planet the atmosphere is too flat against the ground. Basically, if the planet were earth the ship is bigger than Texas.

This is considered good to actual Trek fans, yes. There is no "nu-trek", this is the same kind of boomer hostility you used to see towards the Star Wars prequels. You watched the franchise when you were too young to actually get it and just saw space ships and lasers, you missed the actual message and meaning, and now that you're old enough to get it you think it went "woke", a word you can't even define. No, it didn't go anything, it was always like this. It was never your Heinlein jack boot fantasy and never will be.

Maybe, like the prequels, something far worse will come out that raises their value, but that's unlikely. Woke evades definition in the same way that terms like pornography and propaganda evade definition. It’s amorphous… nebulous… attempts to strictly define it so not service what is a clearly observable phenomenon. The kind of person who asks you to define it isn’t even interested in the definition but rather holding you to a strict definition in an attempt to win an argument. Megahomosexual.

She continues sucking at it right up until the end of the show where her big epiphany moment is "maybe I should set up a mentorship program for starfleet cadets", that's what her whole journey resolved to achieve. The takeaway from Tilly's story arc is "Aim low because you probably won't live up to your own expectations".

Star Trek isn't about action. It's about characters. It's about people, decisions, philosophy, thinking about problems with an open mind, and so on.
Star Trek also features military fiction scripts, such as the ship warfare between Kirk and the Romulans in the original series, the military in the universe makes sense, they have ranks, the captain has to respect his superiors and has a duties to fulfill, he's not a "main character" who can do whatever he feels like.

Character action isn't Star Trek, and it never will be since the first original seasons made with the creator never sought that theme. The Next generation is the final Star Trek series that actually features Roddenberry fixing up the nonsense and keeping the show walking forwards. At about Deep Space 9 there's no more canon Star Trek.

The problem with 26 episode seasons is that they’re written by several dozen people with several dozen visions. Picard and Data probably have the most characterization, but even they’re at the whims of whoever’s penning the script that week.

        >“We didn’t know [Season 5 would be the end]. We finished shooting in November of [2022] and then found out around the New Year — and we can’t say enough of our gratitude to CBS Studios and Paramount Plus for giving us the opportunity to go back and shoot some additional days, because we felt like we really then got to wrap up the series. Season 5 will feel like a satisfying journey.
        >Then, we were able to kind of do a little bit extra to wrap up the show as a whole, and we’re so grateful for that. So when we got to go back and shoot that material we knew going in that those few days were going be the last days — and it was kind of cool, because we got to go in knowing that and really just appreciate being there; appreciate being with one another.
        >We got to say goodbye on the sets, which was just a really special and bittersweet thing. So it was wonderful to get to do that.”

The show was great in s1 when Issacs was carrying the show as Lorca.
Then everything just revolves around Burnham, with the rest of the bridge crew ignored. Doesn’t help that Saru gets sidelined and the entire crew replaced with a bunch of nobodies in the final season.
For someone raised by Vulcans, she sure cries a lot
