I like The Whale a lot. Fraser and Morton were great.
But I couldn’t help notice that nearly all gay people in cinema operate as victims to be pitied and thus draw your sympathy. Moonlight, The Whale, and The Shape of Water for example. These characters are all victims and never presented as immoral or in any way deserving of anything other than pure sympathy and love. It’s manipulative. Even Brokeback Mountain which is more propaganda than film shows more nuance and destruction along with the saccharine stuff. Carol is another example.
