It's a white person's idea of what black people are like. There really aren't a whole lot of chess-playing philosophizing gangsters in Baltimore; the reality of black gangs are more banal.
Idk why people have this idea that there's all of these "le intellectual Black" moments. Aside from Brother Mouzone and the one chess scene, they're pretty sparse and the show is mostly just nigs nigging it up
It's people who watched three episodes.
The show keeps showing the smart Blacks as aberrations that do not at the end of the day change the shitshow of how the entire projects are. And they're based on real people that actually did manage to stay under the radar and did manage large criminal enterprises, but were at the end of the day caught or killed.
And everyone gets shit on in equal measure, cops, criminals, silent bystanders, lawyers, politicians, etc.
LA there are hispanics who know how to form gangs that last past a single leader. The local nogs copied this tech. That hasnt made its way back east yet.
Probably, but seasons 1 and 2 are incredible, season 3 is very good, then 4 and especially 5 are just pretty good television. So while "best show ever made" may be a stretch for it, I think it's deserving of some recognition. The Sopranos is the best series, and I'm not asking.
I've only seen it once like 5 years ago but can remember everything that happened in the show. Pretty rare for a show to leave that much of an impact on me. It may be overrated but its definitely worth a watch
yes and yes. conclusion is that if The Wire was made today, reaction would range from I hate it it's pozzed as frick to no-watching-indifference to a few anons watching it, loving it and discussing the socio-political message in a few low traffic threads.
We Own This City. Not really the same, more of a True crime show about a corrupt cop. It's pretty good and reminded me bit of The Wolf of Wallstreet where it follows a dumb, arrogant greedy prick but is actually held accountable for the lives he destroyed.
I dont enjoy Breaking Bad, gay. You talk like a pseud.
I like the realness to it but every other character apart from Vic and his crew are boring. I'll keep going, see if it heats up
Really? I love almost all the characters. Aceveda and Vic's side-peace are the only ones that drag for me. I think Claudette and Dutch are a great duo (and the only really ongoing cute part of the show), Lem is endearing, Shane you want to like but love to hate, Billings makes for comedic relief that works, etc.
And I meant to say I also think Julian is one of the only instances in TV/movies of people representing a gay character with nuance, and not trying to appease a political agenda.
I know Dutch is going through an obvious character arc but his meekness put me off, maybe because I would relate. Also his position as the murder squad guy gives an excuse for some cheesy plot lines whereas I prefer the patrols, and gang stuff.
I actually like Julian also
Dutch has a great arc, and they write him extremely realistically which I like. A lot of the time when someone becomes a bullying target like that, it's not just because they're meek, it's because they're meek and douchey at the same time. I like how they represent that. Also like a lot of his interactions with Claudette which always feel like a funny and sweet change of pace from the rough stuff. Stay tuned man, I think you'll like the way a lot of the characters grow.
you are in for a ride, Dutch is very based and conflicted character. Their duet with Claudette is one of the best parts of the show.
Everytime the Shield thread pops up i want to start the rewatch, finished the series 9 years ago.
It's worth rewatching, though sometimes it's tough because you just want to hop in the show and stop characters from making bad decisions. When you rewatch you might find it a lot funnier than your first watch. A lot of subtle comedy I missed in the first watch because I was caught up on the horror.
i found it massively overrated for the praise it gets. season 1 was decent and then every season after was progressively worse. also black """"culture"""" is disgusting
I went to uni in Baltimore. I took a class about this show and its relationship to Baltimore, and David Simon came into class to speak about this show. It's so odd to me that David Simon could be such a hardcore leftist cuck, but make a show that is so redpilled. I've never understood it.
Will I find this show watchable if I am unable to sympathize with black characters
Although some storylines are better if you care about the black characters, most of the show is just Black folk being Black folk in Baltimore so yes.

a chess scene which is routinely mocked for being faux intellectual anyway
>The queen you see ...... she ain't no b***h

Obviously not.
It will teach you
it is secretly redpilled show about Black folk and women, you will enjoy it. Hood storylines are entertaining enough.
So is every """"""""""prestige"""""""""" television drama tbqhwu
How come la has the bloods and crips, while baltimore just has 5 guys on a street killing some other 5 guys from a different street?
LA there are hispanics who know how to form gangs that last past a single leader. The local nogs copied this tech. That hasnt made its way back east yet.
Kinda went off the rails with serial killer stuff

this
The Wire has some really fantastic stuff in it, but it felt like they kind of lost track of things post S3. S4 is still much better than S5 imo.
The sopranos is shit
Incorrect.
t.moron
I only liked Season 2
I've only seen it once like 5 years ago but can remember everything that happened in the show. Pretty rare for a show to leave that much of an impact on me. It may be overrated but its definitely worth a watch
And the universally acclaimed depiction of poor black urban life is captured by... drumroll....
a white guy. We did it boys.
Most things are.
Was the new HBO series any good? felt like it was kinda similar

No. Zero finesse.
If you enjoy other moron bait shows like Breaking Bad, you would probably think so.

>Mogs every other cop show
I like the realness to it but every other character apart from Vic and his crew are boring. I'll keep going, see if it heats up
Indeed.
The fact any white man could view with reverence a israelite preaching to him the nobility of blacks proves him a golem.
This isn't a deep message deserving respect. It's base propaganda which should be ignored.
I never watched it because of the sheer amount of nigs it has
I might try a few episodes tho, because there must be a reason why its so highly rated
i found it massively overrated for the praise it gets. season 1 was decent and then every season after was progressively worse. also black """"culture"""" is disgusting
