That's less than his previous movie

The Conjuring grossed 320 million and it was a based Christian film. Oh also the budget for NOPE was 68 million so they’ve yet to break even.

It was expected to do US 5-10 mil more than that. Forbes called US 44 mil "disappointing" box office
It also got a B cinemascore, which means subpar/bad word of mouth

      Cope, seethe, etc

        >regarding pre-release projections and realistic expectations, the $44 million launch for Nope is a little on the lower side. My excitement is tempered by the B Cinemascore grade and the possibility of a sharp drop next weekend, which might mean the film struggles to “make money” on its $69 million budget.

          >I-It only got number one in box office! It failed!!!
Why can’t the white man just give credit when it’s due? It was an unique movie that didn’t rely on “cheap jumpscares” and was well directed.

Conjuring stomped it on a quarter of the budget. Peele isn’t a good writer. His lightning in a bottle was Get Out and even then he just directly ripped off Stepford Wives. He’s not original and frankly he’s quite mediocre.

            This.
Glad to see someone finally say it. There’s nothing original or well written about his movies. He’s just found a woke niche audience who will praise anything he does solely based on his race.

              Anonymous

Exactly. Him winning best original screenplay for Get Out is hilarious because it’s one of the least original screenplays around but when you look at the other nominees
              >Shape of Water
              >The Big Sick
              >Three Billboards Outside Ebbing; Missouri
There wasn’t a frick ton of competition that year anyway but his is still the least original screenplay. He’s a Hollywood token. Nothing more.

Yes. Peele is derivative: he can copy but not create. He gets good technicians such as the great Hoyte van Hoytema as cinematographer but Peele lacks major talent and originality.
Nope will make around the same as Black Phone, which cost 7x less.

He seems to be insecure, similarly to John Oliver, and both should be because they're impostors.

What's even better is the fact that if he wasn't so insistent about having a twist and just marketed it as a straight up monster movie it probably would have done better. Hell I was on the fence about seeing it until I saw the spoilers.

It's not aliens in a spaceship but the alien itself. It's a space squid kaiju.

False/misleading advertising costs a lot in terms of reputation and needlessly burdens a movie because it backfires after the 1st weekend.

Dude, when I read that the twist is that the UFO is actually not a UFO but a UFO-shaped monster I almost fell off my chair laughing. That's the stupidest fricking twist I've ever heard. Also something about a chimp killing people being a parallel to the UFO situation? What the frick is that? This movie genuinely sounds like a fever dream from a mentally disabled autist yet because the fricking black darling of the horror world did it people are kissing his ass no matter what

#1 at its release weekend was a foregone conclusion but there was talk of the movie making US 60 mil (kek).
The audience who did go watch it found it underwhelming-- a B score is terrible for wom purposes. Why is it that black brothas and sistahs are boycotting Peele's newest oeuvre?

Why did you have to bring up race? Nobody else did.

            [...]
what's woke about it besides it having a black director and cast?
Is that how far you've had to lower your standards to get a cultural victory at this point?
            The movie is totally apolitical

            >I-It’s not as successful as *insert unrelated movie*!!!
            >T-The normie audience only partially liked it! I worship their opinion for this movie but they’re sheeple when it comes to everything else!!! THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH RACE S-STOP BRINGING IT UP!!!!

Why do you think black people need a standing ovation everytime they go poop in a potty or wash their hands? Do something great and I’ll compliment it, if not then I won’t.

This is unequivocally a financial failure even with all the market power they put behind it. Studios don't want to 'break even'. This would kill any white man's career.
