That was always a given, right from the start. The only somewhat fleshed out storyline is LOTR, and even then you have entire chunks relegated to mentions, like the war between Mordor and the Dwarves. Any other historical event, even massive ones, are usually described in a few sentences. The War of Wrath is the best example of that.

Elves are closer to light as energy, they should be kind of ethereal, like light itself.
They are not "white being" they are "light beings", supossedly they kind of glow and float above the ground. They feed from starlight energy. That's why elves are depicted as mega white, because culturally we associate light with light hair and light skin.
