>there are unironically people on Cinemaphile who want this store to come back so they can waste gas, money and time walking around a soulless, corporate maze of popular movies.
Why would you want this when the exact same DVD and Bluray discs are downloadable for free, especially if you have a membership to a private torrent tracker that archives more movies than all of the video collections in the USA combined?

It wasn't just about the movies. I'm making a game about being a kid in the 90s during the pogs craze. The videostore is where we used to buy pogs when I was a kid! We would buy them out of a fishbowl for 25 cents each and sometimes blade and holograph pogs and slammers were as much as ONE DOLLAR EACH. Anyway I just added holographic and blade pogs and slammers recently.

Pretty based. I didn't really care about pogs (I knew of them during their original time, but it wasn't until the Simpsons Alf meme resurrected them that I thought it was funny). BUT I had "that" movie store experience. The niche, non-chain rental place. The full-goth hottie chewing gum at the counter who always smelled of cloves. That awkward feeling when you went up to the register to rent a hentai tape (anime was not mainstream yet). Take me back.
I later found out Quentin Tarantino used to visit my store and probably stole all his ideas from their wide selection of bootleg kungfu and exploitation flicks

If you were able to take hentai to the counter that makes sense you didn't care much about pogs. POGS was for a certain demographic for sure, those of us who were still watching Ernest movies. I have some Ernest parody VHS movies made as well, handling them here in the VR version.

Mine was literally on the opposite side of the block I lived on. I could see the employees go to work and take breaks from my backyard. It was odd. When I moved out of my parent's house, it became a pet food store.

I have a couple memories from blockbuster. One was helping a midget get a movie from the top shelf when I was around 12. Another was using their lamination to make a fake id. The guy behind the counter said, "You're making a fake ID aren't you? Here take two in case you mess up."

      >remember 2005? Remember the park being safe? Remember the mall being open? Hey, remember blockbuster?

I would trade netflix in for 2005 nog levels in a heartbeat and that is why the nostalgia exists no matter how much my indoctrinated mind wants to conform on loving our sacred street animals and no matter how much I never did care for visiting blockbuster.

I'm telling you that's why people have nostalgia for blockbuster. Symbol of better times. It is a factor more closely related to the activities of black people and wealthy israelites in the most recent decade than it has to do with the activities of video renters 20 years ago.

            >I'm telling you that's why people have nostalgia for blockbuster. Symbol of better times
I know, but I will sacrifice blockbuster for removing all migration since the triangle trade. Blockbuster is just a tiny insignificant thing compared to everything else wrong with the world.

              Anonymous

Duh. I would trade blockbuster for "90's but without blockbuster", let alone for undoing israeli african slave trade. Any rational person would. But the fact remains we have lost blockbuster and we have lost the America that was or should have been, but the memories are associated, and so milleniboomers will cry nostalgia about blockbuster as a thinly veiled (and well justified) way of saying they wish they lived in a community with a vast White majority that was safe and able to maintain Nice Things.
