I loved this movie. I suspect it failed because of extremely poor writing that then had to be fixed up by re-shoots/semi-poor writing. I think under Zaslav, the next one will be fantastic and loved by all.

I honestly believe that critics are boycotting WB movies because of Zaslab.

Worse than that, it felt like no one on the project saw Shazam. Hey remember how Black Adam was supposed to release the Seven Sins on man, which is what got him banished in the first place?

He got too famous and he got too rich and he started believing his own myth. Or maybe it's that he's started doubting his own myth as he gets older and took too many "feel-good family roles" and now he's overcompensating trying to be the heel version of The Rock™ again.

…yes? Supes and Marv can wail on each other all day because magic imbued muscle is still muscle. If a wizard cursed him to shit his pants, there’s nothing he could do about it. Unless it was silver age, in which case he sewed an evil eye talisman into his costume behind the S, which reflects the curse to, say, Jimmy Olsen.

Superman's comic weaknesses have nothing to do with his movie weaknesses.
Otherwise, I'll just post page 1 from Action Comics #1, and say that he's weak to WW2 weapons. Trying to claim the WW2 weakness is like trying to claim comic weaknesses on movie characters.

I kinda get it. Black Adam would be awkward if he went to anything but Shazam and was suddenly super violent and so instead of muddied beginings, keep them segregate until you can do a worlds collide gimmick. It gambles all future plans on ignoring the key element to the characters everyone is really wanting to see, until down the road, but it undoubtedly would make their eventual meeting more impactful.
Rock's utterly unearned hubris is a huge factor, as well, but in this case there is some method behind the madness. I think it's also obvious that Rock doesn't actually care about the IP and sees the characters as action figures with price tags attached and that disdain cannot be hidden by his overt nice guy act.

200m production budget vs. 360m worldwide box office, factor in the promotional budget and the fact that most of that box office comes from overseas, and that's a movie that's not drawing a dime, brother.

      That's his fricking problem.

What is it with these people thinking a character is "theirs" or "their brand" just because they played them in a movie/cartoon/game? You got Rock acting like Black Adam is his own personal brand, and you even got complete nobodies in the grand scheme of things like Tara Strong claiming that Harley Quinn is "her" character.

Because they're normie parasites who don't care about other people's ideas or effort or production. They just see themselves and only care about the attention they get.

They can't be bothered to read actual comics. They just see something they can dress up as and get attention for. Like they really do no think
          >Someone else created this character I like, let me honor them and respect them.
Thought doesn't even cross their mind. Only attention-seeking crosses their mind.

No, “disservice to the character” is just code for “Dwayne losing to a child”. And he can’t be a bad guy, so that same child can’t convince him to be a good guy.

      Anonymous

Dwayne doesn’t care about Black Adam, he cares about being a superhero. It’s why he wants it to be a Superman/Black Adam rivalry rather than the natural Billy/Adam enemy relationship. It’s like if the guy who played Zod demanded to fight Batman just because Batman was more popular, it’s gonna look weird
