Why? This is the one series I’m looking forward to. A new fresh take on the Scooby franchise after the movie is something we need right now.

I'll probably give it a watch when it comes out. I'm genuinely curious why someone thought this was a good idea. It sounds like someone had an idea for an animated show, but they painted Scooby-Doo over it because the people overseeing the show didn't believe it would draw attention on its own. It's not like Scooby-Doo do is some sacred cow anyway. Plus I'm down for some brown !notVelma.

    >Fred will be made fun of for being a straight white male

You are making all this up. None of this is based on anything shut up.

    "It's a fresh take"
    -Yeah sure.
My bet is that it will do pretty much nothing different that current Harley Quinn cartoon is doing. This is for that same audience.

I honestly feel bad for her because it’s obvious that this was supposed to be something original before Warner told her to slap it onto the scooby doo IP

      >got the show made
      >shiny coat of popular IP to boot
Oh yeah, I feel terrible for her.

Hope it wasn't axed. She's honestly one of the funniest comedians around.

Why would a fresh take on scooby doo be anything anyone needs?

Isn't there a live action Scooby-Doo adaptation on Netflix that is playing the concept as a drama?

You know why. It's an unoriginal premise that didn't need an established IP to make work. Forcing Scooby-Doo onto it is just baffling. You could easily make a brown OC detective operating with a group of school friends to solve crime. It's been done before. Something tells me that either the writing or the premise is fanfiction tier so she paired it with an established license to make sure it gets through the filters. It's fricking stupid to drag Scooby-Doo down like this. It's uncreative to just go "Oh I'll make a race or genderswapped version of this character from a famous series and make then my OC. Now let's get a network to let me run this moronic idea!"

Like imagine if you uncreative enough to go "Let me make Thundercats but make Panthro super cool and witty and cynical and the primary protagonist and then it's mostly everything from his perspective." Like, no. Why not make a bunch of fricking fantasy cats and then do your own shit? I'd respect that a whole lot more.

they don't have enough of the show finished to show off yet. a few pieces of concept art and Mindy talking about the concept was all they had for the WBD upfront a couple of months ago, and that can't sustain a whole panel by itself

      Iceman

That idea can't sustain an entire fricking show by itself yet here we are. I want it to fail just on the face of being derivative horseshit that never should have been approved to begin with. Just about the most shallow uncreative fanfictiony pitch I've ever heard.

the idea of Velma solving a murder mystery at her high school? that could definitively sustain a ten-episode show. I'm sure there'll be other subplots and shit too

          Iceman

Assuredly. But you didn't have have to change who Velma is and what she looks like in order to obtain a premise of "Scooby-Doo gang in high school setting". Pitch that and you've got something. Not great but its something with legs that could go places.. But here Kaling s clearly making Velma her self insert when she should make an OC and then make more OC's to replace the original cast and then pitch THAT. This is just going to be bullshit the is going to be one of the nails stuck in the coffin of "Velma was never looked at until an attractive actress portrayed her, fan art made her thick and sexy and she was slimmed down considerably in recent cartoons". Daphne was always the breadwinner. I wouldn't be surprised if Kaling goes on to make her look like shit in comparison so Velma can standout more.

Remember that live action direct to video movie with with the unattractive Daphne and Velma that failed gain any traction? I think it was called Daphne & Velma. No one gave a frick about that shit. This will just be THAT but on a higher budget and less returns. High-school format is a fun environment though. With enough curse words and innuendo I easily see this being canceled after a single or two seasons max. Unless it premiered on the CW. They'll air any trash.

Why should I watch this if Scooby and Shaggy are not in it.
