Yeah but does Jake Sully's victory result in a blue man jihad across the galaxy, causing the death of billions?

Also was Avatar written in 1965?

It might we don't know yet... Also I'm pretty sure Cameron wrote Avatar in 1954

Avatar has more of a focus on the internal working of the planet and its inhabitants as well as the consequences of the colons trying to mine it than Dune, where the focus is primarily on the white savior. They both have white savior, avatar is just less about it where DUNE isn't shy from being a power fantasy to lonely white incel.

Oh frick she actually kind of does.... Kiri (Grace's continuation in A2 is well on her way to becoming a religious figure among the Na'vi).

How did I just notice that. How is Cameron getting away with this?

For me it's the opposite. Both are spectacleslop but Avatar is based and Dune is dull.

This is it, Avatar's pacing is top tier. DUNC is boring as hell.

It doesn't hurt that James Cameron can actually choreograph an action scene, unlike Denis

Courtesy of the soiest cinematographer, Roger Deakins. Denis Villeneuve can't shoot hand to hand combat without the most awkward of flat angles, he sucks at it and he should stop making blockbusters

Avatar is a lush visual treat (its highest virtue honestly), whereas DUNC is just sandy brutalist garbage.

      >brutalist
This is my main gripe to be honest. The world(s) of Dune are meant to be psychedelic, alien, and grand, all while invoking actual history. Why did they choose commieblocks when they had a half century’s worth of striking visual concepts that they could have used and rehashed?
Were they scared of it looking totally much like Star Wars? Or can westerners no longer create tasteful architecture even if it’s in a fictional world?

    Avatar is Pocahontas
    Dune is Lawrence of Arabia

both Pocahontas and Lawrence of Arabia share some similar topics and themes relating to indigenous people in conflict with an opposing ruling culture and main characters going native.
