The big companies are finding new ways to force tech obsolescence every day, whether it's through outright dropping support for old tech or just charging subscription fees for shit that never needed it before. And that says nothing for new tech standards that you gays get horny for the instant they drop, (I'm talking about that h.264 vs h.265 shit and now you gays are trying to get everyone to switch over to that new webm type.) Frick all that noise.

    >According to the outlet, the following six “Max Original” streaming-exclusive movies were removed from the streaming platform: Moonshot starring Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse, Superintelligence starring Melissa McCarthy, The Witches 2020 remake starring Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, the Chris Rock comedy An American Pickle starring Seth Rogen, Locked Down with Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and drama Charm City Kings. Witches sucks but Anne Hathaway is cute as a blonde but not enough to care. not really worth streaming unless somebody pays you for the rights, probably no buyers.

Locked Down is her basically being blacked in a romantic romcom, who's it supposed to appeal to? Definitely not a wide audience.

Locked Down is also the only movie that leaned into the “covid” psycho aesthetic of having the characters wearing masks and moronic gay shit like that, trying to normalize it all. And she didn’t even show her breasts. It should be burned out of existence with the force of 40k nukes.

Still sets a bad principle. Look to a future of streaming sites rotating old shows in and out of being offered. Disney vault style. To try to nudge viewers over to watch newer show. As a customer happy to just rewatch an older show is more likely to drop a service vs a user waiting for the next new season of a new show.
Then sites can start to run fresh from the vault for a limited time sort of re-release promotions.

        Anonymous

As a customer, it’s the old shows that keep me. I can watch comfy cartoons or old sitcoms late at night every night to fall asleep. If it was new shows that I was coming for, I’d just use trials and watch it in 2 days and the discard the whole thing. If this is their strategy, it’s a very poor one.

Never ever ever trust streaming services when they boast about their own shows. It's just a form of advertising. Ratings for these types of shows are never revealed. Sambatv claims to have this information, but their numbers are based on social media mentions and hashtags, none of which are indicative of any real popularity.

Nielsen isn't a reliable metric either. Nielsen hires a tiny subset of people to wear sound recording devices in order to capture TV signals that are measured by an AI. And this is their basis for saying Euphoria is a popular show? Nah man. That's not how it works.

        >Tokyo Vice
        >Peacemaker
        >Gossip Girl
        >Station Eleven
        >DMZ

Streaming turning into everything people disliked about old school broadcast networks. We have too many services with too little content over lap. More trash low effort fill shows and movies. Slow weekly release cycles like network TV.
Editing content despite it being on pay services. Canceling series with no real wrap up after just one season. Now it's pulling content all ready released. What's left? Pretty much ads and that's about it. No wonder piracy for video content is bigger than ever.

I can't believe I've heard normies say they prefer the weekly release schedule so they can pace out the show and enjoy it more.

I have a friend who likes the weekly release pace so shows can't be spoiled as long as he keeps up. Meanwhile I didn't watch Breaking Bad until it was over after 5 seasons and outside a few meme frame caps posted here nothing was spoiled.

I've had to hear anime fans cry about how streaming has killed discussion because it releases an entire season at once. I don't think that's particularly true and that they can just TALK about what they like, but I guess that's also not really something normalgays deal with.

It's kind of a prisoner's dilemma, though. As someone who likes to pace myself and spread out episodes of shows released as batches, there's always going to be some significant group of people who binges the whole thing and then shitposts about it, meaning I have to avoid spoilers for however long it takes me to finish. There's also the hype factor. Shows with batch releases have a lot of discussion for a few days and then absolutely zero after that. I like talking to other people about shows, and I want to be confident that I'm on the same page as they are. That can only really be accomplished by weekly releases.

It’s not normies as much as it was a hard push from marketers to justify their existence. For if all you need to do is drop some shit on a home screen, then why pay marketers? Then if ad revenue is dead, why pay marketers to produce ads?

Netflix basically rendered marketing obsolete, and they pushed back trying to get weekly releases back, otherwise they cease to exist.

The good thing about a weekly release is that you can comment the episodes with your bros as they are coming out, but the vast majority of shows are better when you binge watch them.

No. When these corps make a project, they report the amount of money they spent on it to the IRS. If they show the IRS that they made no money off of the project, they can ask the IRS lighter tax burden because they didn't make any money to give them.

Not really. Remember a tax cut is just money the government doesn't take from you so less overall money taken from you is more beneficial than making a meager profit but paying a higher tax burden

BMW is now charging $18 per month for heated seats in some countries

Imagine for a moment you're the proud owner of a brand-new BMW 5 Series. One chilly morning, you try to flip on your luxury sedan's heated seats and... nothing. Your frigid rear end sees no relief.

This scenario isn't out of the question. BMW is now selling heated seats — and some other basic features — as a monthly subscription in certain countries. Owners who don't pay up won't get access, even if their car came with all the necessary hardware from the factory.

The move comes as car companies push to make more money from the software in their vehicles. Through subscriptions and the like, automakers intend to generate a steady stream of revenue (tens of billions per year, some say) that continues long after a car is made and sold.

The heated seats cost around $18 per month, with additional options for 1-year, 3-year, and unlimited terms. A heated steering wheel will run you roughly $10-$12 monthly. Some other subscriptions BMW has on offer and their approximate cost: automatic high-beam headlights ($12/month) and adaptive cruise control with lane centering ($42/month).

All of these thing are optional.
You don’t have to own a BMW and even if you do, you don’t have to buy those specific models.
You don’t have to subscribe HBO Max(or any steaming service for that matter)
Your life will go on if you choose not to purchase any of these things.

I like the weekly format to tv shows when they're quick, cheap productions that are supposed to be released within a few weeks or a couple months of filming. Where you can actually have the same season in production while it airs. But does that sound like an HBO Original, the posterboy of high effort high quality serialized television series? The only benefit of an HBO show being released weekly is to remind the directors that you aren't making a 10 hour movie.

That being said, nuking what they already have and killing Max to put it under the Discovery streaming service is simply baffling. Who the frick has Discovery Plus? And who the frick want to watch The Wire or The Sopranos in a Discovery streaming? What the frick are they thinking.

Theaters are dying a slow death and almost everyone releases their movies to their streaming service a month after theatrical release and many people will just wait for that instead. Encanto was a flop in theatres but found success on Disney+

Don't play stupid, the show blew up in popularity and Disney rereleased it to theatres to capitalize on it.

For the love of God please tell me this won't affect the service as a whole and just HBOMAX content. The only reason I have this service is because it has AS, TCM, and classic CN.

It's unironically a problem when your service has too much trash. People always complain about browsing for hours looking for something to watch on Netflix and they end up not watching anything because everything is garbage. But yeah. Removing things they already made makes absolutely no sense.

The whole concept of tax write-offs for shows infuriates me.
If they write off a show, it should go into the public domain, but instead it basically means the studio just hoards the IP and it can never be legally released anywhere ever again. Being a Megas XLR fan is suffering.

      Anonymous

That's not how it works. When a show is written off, the government just takes the rights to the IP, the same copyright laws apply in this case. If someone is willing to pay off the tax debt for Megas XLR, they can take the IP.

S what is stopping Disney or Netflix to pay the tax and stream the shows on their platforms?

Discovery would charge them way fricking more for that shit than it'd be worth for them to have it in their libraries. Discovery isn't trying to "build up" WB, it's trying to cut costs and get quick cash any way possible.

I never really thought about them at all before they bought WB either, but apparently they have a shitload of cash because all of their shit is cheap as frick to produce and still makes the same money as everything else on TV.

I think they're starting to become somewhat of a villain for a lot of people in the industry right now (and I think it's fairly deserved) but at the same time WB has put themselves in this situation through their own incompetence.

that could've happened before ~~*they*~~ got on their ass about their menu and force them to start making it "healthy." as all you need is beans, cheese, and some meat, wrapped in a flour tortilla to make shit literally everyone wants.

So if i buy stocks and they tank, i can hand them out to the government and reduce my taxes?

No, stock is not a product

You can write-off losses on stocks here in burgerland, yes.

          Anonymous

You wouldn't give it to the government, you'd sell them and report the loss you took on them and deduct that from your taxes. Likewise when you sell them and make a profit you pay taxes on the profit. If you don't make any profit you never pay any taxes.

However if you're really shrewd and rich you wouldn't sell at any point and instead use them as security when taking out debt which wouldn't count as income and thus isn't taxable.

        >When a show is written off, the government just takes the rights to the IP
This is literally not true at all lol. What writing off is doing is telling the IRS “Sorry guys, we did not make any money on this project because the cost outweighed the return. Please let us pay less taxes so that we can keep investing money in more projects”

          Anonymous

          >Sorry guys, we did not make any money on this project because the cost outweighed the return
But that's not true at all either. They just stopped selling it, so it's no wonder there is no return.
