Not Keery, Maya was the one that suggested it. Which could’ve been fine if they planned it but when they spent the previous 5 episodes building up to Robin being secretly in love with Steve, it really does feel jarring.
Making the character a dyke was pure propaganda to push false narratives on young women. The biggest unreal part of it is Steve remaining super tight friends with some annoying twat prattling on about "picking up chicks". High school guys in the 80s and even 90s would never be wasting energy talking to a dyke, there is no point. The only way it would make any sense would be if she was one of those "bi" girls but that shit didn't become a thing until the mid 90s.
Them not being romanceable actually improved their banter dynamic, avoiding all the cheap "relationship drama" you always get in those cases.
