Things really started getting fricked around the Anita, feminist Frequency stuff, in 2012 the Die Cis Scum and other crazy gender and sexuality stuff had really jumped from Tumblr into the wider gate, and then by 2013 it was irreversible, in 2014 you get GamerGate and by then it really is over.

cellphone-posters demanding/encouraging shorter, faster memes/responses a la "tldr"/"qrd" has forced the slower discussion-culture of the board to migrate while also destroying the slower form of troll-posting and the creative efforts whom takes more than a minute to comprehend
It's kinda sad that the real indepth-threads, were we discussed/analyzed a movie to its brinks, are so rare nowadays since they were usually the most rewarding and one of the main reasons to browse this board

I remember watching The North Water with Cinemaphile (it was only three years ago), and the discussion was really good. Maybe there's a correlation between quality of the product, and quality of discussion; or maybe those people left Cinemaphile. I don't know. I just know I'm still here.

I've been here on the internet since I had my own computer as a teenager. The place I used pre-Cinemaphile was a forum, but I've been using Cinemaphile ever since I discovered it. I think I managed to outlast everyone. I definitely outlasted Moot, who made this place. Cinemaphile is very different now.

        Anonymous

I think you've pointed out the main problem. People need to have watched the actual movie to be able to discuss it, and they also need to remember some of it. Most movies today are rather forgetable, or they get overhyped and pre-talked to the point that you can't talk about them 6 months later, while classics like Citizen Kane or Terminator 2 have been ripped apart to the point where its hard to find a new take. The focus on the "now" have been intesified.

There can be situations where an anon posts a meme-thread
        >Should I marathon X
        >what did I think of X
        >X: woke or kino?
and the discussion gets going because its a great movie whom 2-3 anons happened to watch the past few days and which is a favourite among 2-3 other anons. But that's often thanks to chance. These posts works more like an advertisment - a person-ad - viewer in search of viewer. There's really hard to start a discussion on your own with a longer first post. Most people won't even read it and those who do rarely give a lengthy reply back.

          >2-3 anons happened to watch the past few days

and it used to be more common 10 years ago when people would still watch TV on TV, instead of streaming. If a movie was on TV then you would have a lot of anons who would happen to watch it at the same time.

        >or maybe those people left Cinemaphile.
I think much of the late millennial userbase left Cinemaphile between 2016-2020, I can't be bothered with hating on zoomers, but it's a different posting culture here now
OC that's not easily digestible templates is mostly frowned upon, posts need to be rapid and also follow templates, and while the goal of Cinemaphile has always been to call someone else a homosexual it's more about pissing people off and getting the last word in than ever before, it's a very exhaustive way of posting

          Anonymous

I don't get the zoomer hate, it's not like there weren't always new 18-20 year Olds discovering Cinemaphile until now. It's almost like any liberal Reddit opinion gets pinned onto zoomers as if the reason we come here isn't to get away from that shit.

Millennials were here from the start, m00t is an '88 millennial himself.
And even with that, back then people didn't hate on others for the generation they belonged to. If a guy was annoying, you didn't call him a dumb boomer/Xer/millennial, you'd call him a newbie or a moron. That's not much of a thing anymore.
I guess zoomers are different enough to feel distinctive despite what that guy says of trying to run from reddit, but the truth is that everything is different now. This whole hating on boomers and zoomers always felt artificial to me.

              Anonymous

Yes, millennials got old and started seething at young people. Every generation does this. I especially like it when you guys shit on zoomers for using Black slang, when that was extremely popular back when you were young and every homosexual White kid was quoting snoop dogg or trying to be like eminem, wearing baggy clothes and having rap battles in the hallways at school. It's like you all forgot what annoying morons you were as kids too. All kids are morons. The only real thing you could criticize zoomers for without being a hypocrite is that they are really gay, but even then millennials invented all that gender shit and passed it on to them.

I think it has to do about the appreciation of the willpower to perpetual spam out nonsense and the value of familiarity with a habital sight which forms a cornermark for a perticular culture. Anons are fascinated by autistic trolls whom challenges the normal conventions and like any meme with a strong cult of followers, the inside joke enlargens the more confusion arises and the harder it is to penetrate the sphere of kinship.

Food don't taste the same, it all just tastes so disappointing and bland. But I will say this, I never got around to watching season 1 of True Detective back when it premiered, but I did watch it last year and goddamn, what an experience. It really was as good as you all said, especially watching it with almost no context. Especially towards the end. I think I would've enjoyed it more had I watched it alongside the board when it premiered, yes, but it was still worth it to do so on my own. The point is, if there is something that you missed out on back then, but you wanted to do it, you should go ahead. It will likely bring you some happiness still.

Sounds like you have depression. I have depression, and I still enjoy food. I also enjoy cigarettes, and Cinemaphile, and I think that's the entire list. I'm glad you like True Detective season 1, but the best part of watching stuff is talking to others about it. That's why I always avoided watching older stuff.

Man it's sad to think that Cinemaphile has spend way, way long in the post Anita, post GG and even post Trump era that it's time prior to that. 2006 to 2012 at most, that's only six years. Six years that felt like a lifetime. 12 years since 2012, 10 since 2014, and even just 8 since 2016. The golden age of Cinemaphile wasn't even half before things got perma-fricked.

I mean, to people even older that us it wouldn't have seem that weird, Cinemaphile had sort of done organized protesting on it's own and participated in politics to some degree. You had the Ron Paul believers before Trump and you had some support for some sections of Anonymous, mocking scientology, etc. However, that was mostly just joking around and well, doing it for the lulz. I don't think any of us realized just how serious mainstream media was gonna take it. I mean, people used to mock Fox News for the whole "Cinemaphile hackers have the power to blow up vans!" stuff, and now you had CNN saying dangerous white supremacists on 4chinz wanted to kill all women, over videogames. And all over some dumb nepotist hoe and grifters that wanted to start or revitalize their e-celeb careers. Hell, now there's even a Gamer Gate 2, and over the same things, dumb nepo hoes. Time really is a flat circle.

      >All I want to do is talk about Seinfeld the show, I don't care about MUH israeliteS.

You probably don't understand what's happening then. As a place becomes more diverse (Cinemaphile, for example), social cohesion lowers, and that's why people might bring up race all the time.
There are people on Cinemaphile that leave their house, and they would be angrier than people that don't, from having to experience the real world. You may not care about MUH israeliteS, but other people do.

Why did I spend all my time shit posting on /b/ in the beginning?

        Anonymous

Because /b/ was the welcoming board, the one most lively, the one with all the raids, the most popular one. Every other board was secondary compared to it.
That started changing around 2010 when the cancer took in and became terminal, and by 2014 /b/ had become a husk. During that time, which coincided with the beginning of /misc/ spilling everywhere, people migrated massively to other boards. That meant they improved a lot with lots of activity and good OC, and in the end Cinemaphile and especially /misc/ became the main welcoming boards. GamerGate first and the 2016 election cemented this, with the political consequences that had.
Now, since around 2019 or so, everything feels lifeless. There aren't huge memes taking over the site yearly, most threads repeat the same things over and over, it's ridiculous.

Cinemaphile stopped being a place of original content in 2015 at the latest, and instead started recycling memes from Facebook and other places. The OP's image, if it's not bait, just shows that. Embarrassing.

Most facebook and twitter memes are old memes stolen from here. Back in the day Cinemaphile would recycle shit from SA all the time too. Cinemaphile is one of the only places producing OC, anywhere else you go it's just repost of Cinemaphile memes from a few years ago and greentext screen shots.
