THIS IS A MILITARY VESSEL, essentially.
Flippant convo and snide remarks from your butch lesbo navigator would result in IMMEDIATE dismissal.
TOS and TNG did it right, its all gone down hill since.

>IT'S NOT WOKE PLEASE WATCH MY SHOW
>ugly dyke with a woke hair cut
Nice try.
Your loss.
>tried too hard in your path
I can't take her seriously. She's the annoying white girl at the party that thinks she's everyone's bro. I'm white BTW.
Sure ~~*you*~~ are.
oi vey
Yikes
Dykes with buzzcuts are a sterling tradition in military/sci fi kino and if you don't know that you're too young to post on this fricking site, homosexual
Frick yeah.
is that a man?
f-ffrick y-yeah??
Are you?
It's actually a israeli woman. Not memeing. Look it up.
Ah the 80's when israeli women played Puerto Rican men
Now she runs a bra store in suburban Atlanta for women with huge breasts.
> We carry sizes 30-44 D-K and our bras, swimwear, lingerie, sports, and nursing bras are imported directly from Europe from small independent companies.
Didn't ask
it's not a buzzcut, it's the woke zoomer haircut. not that anyone in star trek ever wore a buzzcut either
Tilly would be court martialed for turning into a fat cow.
Couldn't they just beam the fat out of her?
Starfleet is not a military.
moron
But it is
It obviously is, it’s just not “just” a military.
>Starfleet
>fleet
It's not a merchant navy.
What happened? I don't watch this show.
tv pretending to be outraged at nu star trek
>on no ship with an organized command structure, civilian or military, you talk like that on the bridge:
been on many ships, have you?
Not that anon, but no one even talks like this in the professional world. The lack of professionalism in what is supposed to be a serious show is jarring to say the least.
Joss Whedon has done more damage to the movie world than any other writer.
>Joss Whedon
Is he cancelled? What did he do?
>cancelled
Not that I know of, I'm just saying the trend of twee lolsoironic meta dialogue that is pervasive in Marvel movies and the like is because of him.
>"Joss Whedon is not to be left alone in a room with Michelle Trachtenberg"
This is the rule the cast & crew had during Buffy.
Did they secure her socks and shoes when he was around? Summer Glau's feet were basically another cast member on Firefly.
>he doesn't have bants with his boss
virgin detected
I dropped it after the troony episode. It was ok before that, but one has to have principles.
Filtered.
Clocked.
I like her, funny character!
>MILITARY VESSEL
You know what the Federation is, don't you? It's a peacekeeping and humanitarian armada.
>semantics
They have a military hierarchical command structure
They have a military command structure and weapons of war (like the photon torpedo). Even IF their stated goal is peacekeeping and research, they are still a military vessel.
If they were purely a research vessel, they wouldn't have such weapons.
I always thought of Starfleet as scientists first and military second. Like, they are scientists and explorers and diplomats, but they don't know what the hell theyre going to find out there. So they do combat and weapons training, and arm their ships, and adopted a military hierarchy to keep everything stable and disciplined in times of crisis, all just in case, but certainly not their primary role.
I agree, but even in that case, the dialogue is unrealistic. You don't make snarky comments at people who are your superiors in a military hierarchy. Furthermore, you don't act this way in general around people you are working with, for the simple reason it causes unnecessary tension.
For a bunch of writers who are obsessed with "toxicity" and whatnot, you'd think they'd be aware of how dialogue in a professional environment sounds like. Nu-trek dialogue is such a far cry from this masterpiece of screenwriting:
now post some clips from the show in question. only one quote has been posted and it wasn't snarky in the slightest
So I went searching around for some clips and the "good" parts are remarkably horrible.
>Tell us, why should we ally with your Federation?
>Easy, you shouldn't.
>[proceeds to ramble on and on about le Federation privilege]
It's worse than I expected. And this is them at their supposed best.
I hate that guy's line delivery more than anything else in that clip
This new "captain" makes me actually appreciate Captain Janeway. At least she acted like a rational leader and not some whiny college student.
>stable and disciplined
Exactly.
Who do you think fights all the actual wars Federation gets into? It's these guys.
>peacekeeping and humanitarian armada.
Peacekeeping and Humanitarian Armada of Peace
Why don’t they have marines? Away teams are always the senior command structure.
It's supposedly a ~~*science*~~ vessel that also is a warship.
it doesnt matter. on no ship with an organized command structure, civilian or military, you talk like that on the bridge:
>Erica, take us closer, please.
How close do you want to get? First date or third date?
>Blind date.
Copy. Proceeding with caution, sir.
Spock: Recommend we do not cross one of the beams.
Pike:What happens if we do
Spock: At best, it will shut down the ship.
Pike: And at worst?
Erica: Kaboom?
Spock: Indeed.
its seriously annoying and stupid. i dont expect 100% accurate naval talk but some seriousness would be nice.
>some seriousness would be nice
exactly, lives are at stake, the but troony clown writers, despite their best efforts keep slipping into troony clown flippant repartee.
It's not a documentary, you sperg.
>everything needs to be a moronic marvel quipfest
Jesus are those real
Yes but at least Ortegas lack of professionalism takes place in a conversation. Ensign Tilly from Discovery just babbles non-stop to nobody.
Glad I'll never watch this vomit
I sincerely hope everyone coping with it is trolling and hasn't self-hypnotized
Actually, in many military situations you can be funny with your superiors. They're people too
There's funny and there's a constant stream of insubordination.
>Spock: Recommend we do not cross one of the beams.
>Pike:What happens if we do
>Spock: At best, it will shut down the ship.
>Pike: And at worst?
>Erica: Kaboom?
>Spock: Indeed.
God, I hate millennial writers. They're all a bunch of socially-inept morons who can't write a serious dialogue exchange to save their lives. No one over the age of 12 actually likes this kind of dialogue. It's like all the worst parts of Borderlands dialogue without any of the humor.
Why are millennials so bad at writing serious dialogue?
They never watched any of the old Star treks, and Paramount just wants money. It's honestly a very simple explanation.
Not that anon, but I agree that it's a bigger problem than mere money. ALL millennials writers are godawful. We never got this cringey cutesy dialogue 20 years ago. Outside of a few notable shows (eg pre D&D GoT), the quality of writing in this generation is awful.
I think this is the result of a generation of sheltered writers who have no experience outside of their tiny MFA bubbles. Old showrunners had real world experience. Gene Roddenberry had so much life experience in the military. He also commented how his experience with his father as a police officer in LA informed his concept of The Prime Directive, particularly with how the officers handled different people of different cultures.
I bet these millennial writers have never interacted with people who weren't at a coffee shop.
I'd like to point it to Whedon, mainly.
>(eg pre D&D GoT)
They ran the show beginning to end dude... Is it Summer time already?
What, you mean Star Trek crew members didn't always say "I LOOOOOVE SCIENCE BRO!"
No one in startrek has the slightest tactician acumen, not even (or perhaps especially) the klingons. Even the MAKOS in ENT were bumbling third string tier
She will certainly die. Along with the blackfrican doctor and big tittied number one.
Nah, black doctor makes it all the way to the orignal star trek
Yeah, he was a character written into TOS to show Bones' actor that he was replaceable.
Why? Was the actor a dick or something?
I think he was drunk on set at all times and called Roddenbery, Shatner and Nimoy dirty israelites (but back then anti-Semitism was considered funny) so yeah
But Roddenberry was a dirty israelite. He gave Majel a vicious infection by going from back to front.
Yikes but based
>I want my girlfriend not my wife in this series make her the co-lead, ok no oh well the nurse then
I’m still mad as frick Hemmer died because Laan is a useless security commander.
Like legit they took 8 people down to the ice planet, two of whom were trainees. Both (BOTH) medical officers - they only have two on the ship - are there. Leaving none for the other 80 some crew on the Enterprise.
Captain and science officer also there. Chief of security has no other security team with her. For an away mission. They take no precautions at all. As soon as they know it’s Gorn she just spergs out and it results in three people getting killed - one of whom is the chief engineer. The medical team are useless. The captain is useless. Laan is fricking terrible at her job. God this show makes me mad.
This is how actual people in the military interacted before the entire military was ruined by globohomosexual in the 1990s.
You think everybody in WWII snapped a salute and said yes sir no sir all the time?
>You think everybody in WWII snapped a salute and said yes sir no sir all the time?
Yes they did. Hierarchy is everything while on duty. Off duty, sure, everyone talks shit about their officers. But on duty?
The frick they absolutely did you LARPing homosexual. You think military protocol wasn't followed during WWII? Don't teach history you moron. Now you might make a case that US military protocol got more relaxed after the Vietnam War and has been dwindling ever since but let's not retcon stuff entirely with bullshit.
sorry I don't have a copy of Starfleet's hair and dress code circa 2258
mind posting it?
Why can't they set any new series other than Picard post TNG? Why do they keep going back to the original series timeline?
Evil cannot create.
are you quoting a star wars line or something?
>Character who is flippant and gives snide remarks when off-duty, even to people who outrank them - but is completely strict and serious on-duty
There I made the character better
but then you might have to go 30 seconds without getting any cutesypoo dialog
>the year 2250-somthing
>characters talk like they were dragged off the street in 2020s New York
hrm
‘09 had the best bridge scenes of all Trek media, apologize.
>09 had the best bridge scenes of all Trek media, apologize.
kys moron
Just call everyone on the bridge by their first name and have people wandering in and out of the set with food and cups of coffee and someone carries the trash out sometimes
