Whedon's was better. Snyder's was actually a character but was utterly b***h-made.
    Whedon's Steppenwolf:
    >gets excited the Amazons run away with the box
    >slaughters dozens of women to get to it
    >snatches the box then, with a smile, promises to return and make every last Amazon into a rape slave
    Snyder's Steppenwolf:
    >cries out "No!" like a little homosexual when the Amazons run with the box
    >runs away as soon as he gets the box
Snyder made some outright idiotic changes.
    Whedon:
    >Flash runs the circumference of the arena while the JL are battling Parademons, touches the tip of WW's sword, pushing it back into her hand and she then dispatches a Parademon with the sword
    Snyder:
    >Flash runs the circumference of the arena while the JL are battling Parademons, touches the tip of WW's sword, pushing it back into her hand and she then... nothing. Absolutely nothing.
Seriously. Watch it. It's fricking nuts.

      >Whedon:

directly before that batman quips about how tall steppenwolf is. then the flash fricking trips over like a moron and lands on top of diana awkwardly because COMEDY!

        Anonymous

        >because COMEDY!
Sure buddy, meanwhile in Shitder version Flash is doing a cheerleader for bunch of civilians travelling on foot? Why? Because Flash would clean that entire scene by himself in half a second, just like Quickdilver in Days of Future past, but because Shitder is low IQ subhuman, he does what aĺl hacks do with speedster characters - he needs to either get rid of them or completely hamstring them, because they ruin every scene their microbrains cook up.

          >Set up Barry as completely inexperienced and not used to more than street-level crime
          >his first outing he's struggling with all the chaos and isn't as effective as he would later become
This was probably the easiest part of the film to get and you failed even that.
Also the moment that that rubble is falling on them and Flash destroys it in midair was kino.

      Anonymous

Also, making Steppenwolf the main threat of the flashback instead of Darkseid is the better choice for not only for both characters, but the plot of the movie itself.

      Anonymous

The fact that it's Steppenwolf at all never made any sense. The one always desperately seeking Darkseid's approval was Kalibak. Steppenwolf was originally Darkseid's uncle whose murder was one of the catalysts for the war between Apokalips and New Genesis. This is the only iteration where he gets looked down on as trash.

And this one's not just the title, they actually recorded the dialogue twice.

    Related:
Reign of Fire, the 2002 film about Dragons appearing in the modern day world and causing an apocalypse, was showing around the same time that there was a storyline called "Rain of Fire" on the Buffy spinoff Angel.
It was pretty goofy because you could get tv spots for both things showing on the same channel. Never did figure out if that was intentional, maybe a way to boost Angel's viewership by convincing dimwits it tied in to a dragon movie somehow?
