This is Gen Z LOTR, but is probably the magnum opus among the last 3 generations.

It isn't making that much of money and no one is watching it. It's purely internet astroturfing/manufacturing narratives.

The first one sucked too. Generic game of thrones tier fantasy. Not even close to lotr.

Sadly you are probably right as Gen Z are totally desperate for something to happen while being clueless as to how free they actually are to do anything. It's why asses have made such a comeback, they're subconsciously seeking to be dominated like how easy it seems they would fall into a war just so they can prove themselves. And to whom? Sad.

I fricking hate midwits. And you.
Tolkien's lord of the rings is good but it's simple, both in it's plot and it's morality. Dune shows complexity. Go frick yourself moron.

You're the real midwits. Watch more films and start with the classics, kurosawa.

Imagine comparing 2 different stories as if one is correct over the other.
Imagine if every story was just Tolkien in repeat. Oh look another story about good prevailing over evil.

You're a midwit thinking you have all the answers. Sit down homosexual. Dune is trying to tell a story about revenge, colonization, religion. It's vastly more complex because it's not trying to say Paul actually is the chosen one and a completely justified messiah.

Also; you don't know what magnum opus means, you are a homosexual and a stupid zoomer who can't keep his hands out of his pants. Have some self respect and search for meaning outside of slop.

You're correct but we've entered the phase of post blockbuster release where the fans have already said their piece and don't feel like arguing against the contrarians so you won't get much consensus here OP. Happened with BR2049 too, you'll just have to accept that some autists here will always jump on the old good new bad train to fit in and move on. Looking forward to the next open season on Lynchgays when DUNC 3 drops.

ask people on the street who gandalf, gollum, bilbo etc are in 2002 and they'll alll know. ask people now who paul, chani, and gurney are and no one will know. dune has nowhere near the cultural relevance or reach lotr did.

Unironically because of Brave New World tier amounts of entertainment
If Netflix slop didn’t exist then more people would be in the theater and more people would be seeing Dune and more people would be talking about it and more “cultural relevance” strawmen will know about it

It's just not good enough to warrant all that investment. Nothing has been that good since the Dark Knight, marvel movies only sustained relevance by pumping out movie after movie for 15 years so no one forgets.

The LOTR trilogy made $3 billion at the box office and won 17 Oscars. Its memes are still popular 20 years later. Even people who've never seen the movies can quote the dialogue and name the characters. Dunc hasn't had anywhere that level of success. The first one just about broke even and it looks like the sequel will do a bit better, but still not on the level of any individual LOTR movie.

Its only going to be the LOTR of Gen Z if we get God Emperor eventually.
Without it its just another set of movies that get cucked by movie producers, budget and vain ambition without contracts or clout to back it up.

Anyone else feel like they went way too heavy on the accents in this movie? I could barely understand any of the Fremen, especially Stilgar, Javier was laying it on way too fricking thick. And if they're gonna go that route, how come the Emperor, the Atreides, and the Harkonen all have the same accents despite all being from different planets and growing up in a different culture? They should sound distinctly, if not radically different from one another.

And with Chani we have the exact opposite problem. She speaks English with 0 fricking accent, it's Muttdeya just using her regular Caligirl accent. I get she's the daughter of Liet-Kynes, who should have a regular/imperial accent, but she wasn't raised by her, right? She was raised by the Fremen in the desert. She should speak Fremenese as her first language and have a terrible accent when speaking English just like everyone else. But it's like she was too fricking lazy to do it, and nobody dared to correct her because black lives matter or some bullshit. Muttdeya really is a dogshit actress, there, someone had to say it.
