prince of egypt is not a "religious" movie. It never was nor was it ever intended to be. It uses religion as a framing to tell a story about the conflict between two brothers who were once close friends. It's a story about arrogance, humility, acceptance. If you can't see any of that then you really are just a fedora wearing lardass who lets christians live rent free in your head.

bad film. It doesn't have a good story, none of the characters are positive role models (not even your beloved Chel, whose voice acting is grating), comedy is innocuous and not very funny, pacing is all over the place, main antagonist is bland, the CG stuff like the gold or water are distracting, most of the songs are mediocre, and the third act is rushed

      Anonymous

El Dorado is... let's call it ungraceful. The animation style is befitting a more dramatic story like Prince of Egypt, which is how Road was originally pitched - with a much more serious and dramatic tone. They decided that after POE they wanted to go a little lighter, which is fine, but the animation and music didn't really update to reflect this decision and so you have this very jarring clash between the aesthetics and the tone.

It's interesting because Emperor's New Groove went through a very similar transition from the more dramatic Kingdom of the Sun it was pitched as to the very light, comedic film it became, and I think honestly Road would have benefitted from a similar shift in animation style.

The problem is they didn't go far enough - they balked and it ended up in this weird middle-ground where it's neither a strong serious drama nor a strong light comedy. If they wanted to make it light they needed to go whole hog, but that would have involved basically redoing the entire screenplay and animation design.

Maybe not the best, but it's easily top 10.

It'd be top 5 if they'd given the 'big boys' scene one more pass on the editing table before production.

The technical quality of the animation is unsurpassed and the music is good. It's not great otherwise but the animation is not underrated by any means, it's the best of all time.

what does being christian have to do with this movie which is not religious. I ask you to find a scene in this movie wherein moses's faith in god is tested. Religion is just the framing device for the movie proper

        >a scene in this movie wherein moses's faith in god is tested.
where he literally question god as the burning bush whether he should do it or not? Pretty monumental scene

He never questions what he's looking at IS god. He even immediately removes his sandals in respect.

He directlys questions God and pitfully asks “Why me? They won’t listen! etc” this is in the Bible, and god has to correct him. In the film it suggests god is even a little frustrated with Moses persistence and raises his voice. Moses breaks down, and comfortingly God embraces him to educate him on his will and Moses submits, it’s a very intense scene, how’d you miss this?

it’s adapting a religious story and isn’t doing it in a pozzed manner where all the supernatural stuff has a materialistic explanation

It's not a love story so no, it doesnt need a kiss scene. The entire point of the movie is a contrast between moses and his brother and the different paths they took in life.

reminder that pic related was the first CG movie by the 2D department of Dreamworks after abandoning 2D
judging by how mediocre El Dorado, Spirit and Sinbad turned out, they did the right choice in switching to CG. This was an improvement over their recent works and audiences clearly thought so (it did better than El Dorado, Spirit and Sinbad combined)

when production on Shark Tale started in 2001, Spirit wasn't finished yet and Sinbad was also next on the pipeline. They made the decision to make both 2D and CG films
after Sinbad flopped in july 2003, they announced they were going to abandon 2D. Shark Tale was over halfway finished by that point
