Well Ridley didn't have a hand in Alien sequels so it makes sense for him to ignore them.
Now Alien: Covenant was fricking stupid by saying David made the Xenomorphs. There was already a proto Xenomorph in Prometheus made from the Engineer, and there was a mural with a Xenomorph in the ruins.

He didn't "make" them, he was breeding them. moron. Speedwatcher.
Yeah I love how instead of hunting through animal cleverness like the film because the xeno is so fragile it can get blasted through with a pneumatic grappling gun, instead it hunts by charging at you or crowds of enemies with guns because its bulletproof
Its my 3rd fav alien film.
It brought the wonder back into the aliens franchise. Them discovering the planet and structures was great.
People always point out that it was dumb to take off their helmets, like that had any effect on the story. The two that were originally infected were wearing their helmets and the Dr. chicks bf was poisoned by David. So who gives a frick if they took off their helmets for a few minutes.
Convenant was a disappointment for me.
They walk through a city of engineer corpses and no one bothers to ask about it?
So much of the engineers were shown but none of the questions answered. >David made the xenomorphs
okay frick right off
Covenant just baffles me completely. It's like Ridley completely just didn't give a shit about it. It literally looks like a made for Syfy b movie. The alien POV shot actually destroyed a portion of my soul
The reason Covenant sucks is beacuase it's not what Ridley want to do. Brainlets complained about Prometheus saying there wasn't enough Xeno when it wasn't even about the Xenos....Ridley caved and gave the brainlets what they wanted, another boring Alien movie instead of further exploring the story of Prometheus and the Engineers.

Covenant was great simply because it killed homosexuals and race mixers in terribly gruesome ways.
Has some Lucas prequel vibes.
Great ideas but something went wrong, either Ridley making all the decisions or the studio wanting to tie it all in with the Alien franchise.
My bet would be number two, seemed like Ridley wanted to go all in on spacejesus and androids but was held back with the alien crap.
The space jockey not beeing a creature but a suit was dumb and killed all the mystery about it. I do like the engineers though but they really didn't need to be connected.
The Xenomorph in the mural was their god, Engineers grew infertile and could only reproduce/replicate? Through the goo from the og xenomorph but it died. They tried to replicate the stuff but only got the black goo which they used to seed planets with their genetic makeup, so at least they kept life going. At least that's what i remember.
>The Xenomorph in the mural was their god, Engineers grew infertile and could only reproduce/replicate?
The mural could be anything, including a warning as in "this is what happens when you are uncontrollably exposed to the stored mutagen".
As far as the concept of gods etc goes the engineers were proficient and heavily dabbling in genetics plus god knows what else. The xenos could be a point of high interest for them as their biomechanical nature lends itself well for flexible genetic engineering. Think ships that you dont build but grow and are somewhat "alive" in their own right and in a symbosis with the pilot. Or highly flexible and protective (heat/pressure/vacuum) regenerating suits you dont pull on but grow as a exoskeleton on your muscles like the one the engineer had that the chick found.
Complaining about "the canon" is so stupid. I've only ever watched it as its own thing with similar motifs. Like how AvP1 is a good action flick but I don't consider it "canon" with Alien or Predator.
Is there a sequel coming?
Does anyone have a clue about the plot? Could go a lot of ways. I wonder if it'll just be "aliens on a ship of 5,000 colonists" or if david will wait til they arrive on the new planet to frick around.
Either way i wont get my hopes up at this point.
>morons
Obvious projection here >why did you morons hate it again?
Because it had enormous potential, because we waited 15 years for it, and it turned out to be an enormous piece of shit with more (plot) holes than your mom.
They could have given all that information in the movie but you're supposed to piece it together from what's written in the script and director interviews and deleted scenes. Or do they think audiences are too dumb for context.
>interesting premise is set up but never paid off >engineers are set up but never paid off >religious themes are set up but never paid off >thematic idea of creators and their relationship with their creations is set up but never paid off >characters are Friday the 13th tier canon fodder dumbasses and are completely irrelevant to the story >what story? lol. >mindless action scenes and pointless death scenes, also irrelevant to the story and could be rearranged in any order
Prometheus has good sets and costumes, nothing else.
the engineer hated humanity/weyland for abandoning the genetics the engineers gifted through great self sacrifice and instead built replicants like David, which are the antithesis of the continuance of the genetic code and therefore abominations. this is why the engineer killed weyland, ripped davids head off and was about to wipe out humanity *and* why david himself hated engineers
The alien horror killing scenes in these movies are NEVER good. Even the original Alien. It looks like a joke. Literally the only good scenes were in the sequel when the Alien came out of the water to kidnap the child. Part of why The Thing mogs this franchise
why did you like it?
>how to retcon 101

>why did you morons hate it again?
SOMEONE POST THE ERGONOMIC SPACE AXE NOW
Alien covenant was better
are you fricking shitting me with this post
Would it be less or more insulting if I said yes?
plot was weak, character motivation was thin, plausibility was suspect and the director doesn't care about his own cannon
"His" canon was only the first film. moron.
He didn't "make" them, he was breeding them. moron. Speedwatcher.
Everything after Aliens was shit, including Prometheus. Only the original film is kino. You sound like a limpwristed homosexual.
Alien isolation is pretty cool
Yeah I love how instead of hunting through animal cleverness like the film because the xeno is so fragile it can get blasted through with a pneumatic grappling gun, instead it hunts by charging at you or crowds of enemies with guns because its bulletproof
Real improvement
It's not an Alien movie.
He didn't do the things we wanted him to do. That automatically makes it B A D.
I unionically passed out during the alien abortion scene.
watch that scene with a woman and enjoy her reactions lol
Where do you think you are?
I'm sure he has a mom
I fell asleep around that scene too.
>scientists on a space mission for humanity
>open up unknown artifact
>play with unknown species
This movie is very stupid

Ridley said that he was interested in making a movie about the Space Jockey in the commentary for Alien.

achievable natty?
>astronauts, the best of the best

dropped

Similar situation to the Star Wars prequels.
Its connection to alien is the worst part about it
No doubt in my mind it would have been better received if it was a new scifi horror IP

Could’ve been a classic but all the actors in it fricking sucked except maybe fassbender
the main character woman is cute
Boring, tedious to watch, plot holes, no xenomorph, Engineers (space jockeys) were a let down.

I mean of course all the ideas aren’t fully resolved - it was meant to start a trilogy
I thought this was bad when I saw it in theaters. Then I saw Alien Covenant, now I think Prometheus is underrated.

Prometheus is a bad version of AvP, which is way, way better.
uh no. its nothing like that.
>wasted potential: the movie
It is a good film if you ignore the plot holes, poor character decisions, Charlize Theron's death, and general retconning.
its a good movie if you ignore everything in it
At least people can appreciate this motherfricker.
Nah, cut it.
