It's on Amazon and one of the next movies I'll be watching probably. I still have to see those that are leaving soon, a western with Clint Eastwood from the 60s not by Leone, First Man with Gosling as Neil Armstrong and The Birdman. I know I tried watching the last two but didn't like them back then, should I try again? First Man especially I remember having terrible camera work that never stayed still. What do you think?
>First Man is good
I just saw the first 15 minutes and so far it's absolute garbage. It's mostly shitty close shots, with the camera always moving (which I can tolerate only in the spaceship). I guess I'll keep watching this movie but it doesn't look like it will stop being shit
The Killing, like Spartacus, suffers from its straightforwardness, and Kubrick being handcuffed by the production so he wasn't able to add his levels of dimensions to them.
Examplified is the inability to summon the homosexual relationship between the men in power in this scene
As a filmanalyst you're clearly observing how the two characters are about to jerk eachothers swords off but the dialogue says otherwise which leaves you into a state of confusion.
All of Kubricks other films have left some kind of impression on me but I can't remember anything about this shit other than a racetrack and people in hats. Absolute nothingburger of a flick.
Remember the clown masks in The Dark Knight? That's The Killing. One of Cinemaphile biggest mems is "I'm Dunnhier". Dunnhier's clown mask is The Killing reference.
Kubrick is an overrated director with only two movies worth watching. The Killing is not one of those. Those two movies are A Clockwork Orange and Dr. Strangelove.
Every movie has a value of time and place that directly affects it. The movie came out in '71 and there was a huge cancellation/censorship campaign around it. And that was the whole point of the movie to shock audience. And so it was already outdated by 90s, the level of shock value had increased a lot. Now clockwork orange looks like a boring outdated comedy with elements of erotica, nothing more.
It’s a great noir, top ten easily, but to me it lacks the underlying emotional theme Kubrick put into his later movies. Despite it being very much his vision, it seems like it was something he was just hired to direct. Ironic given he wrote it.
It's great but Kubrick's films only start being 10/10 bangers consistently from e-girlta onwards. The Killing's corny ending diminishes it considerably (and yes I know it's because of that one law but still).
In fact I’d say top three, maybe top two
should have just bought a proper briefcase
Yes but have you seen his first film
No. I hear it’s kinda shit. Is it good?
It was alright
it's shit

Ur a gayet. But yeah it's a very good film that doesn't get its doo.

Two Mules for Sister Sara? It's great. Hang 'Em High? It's also very good.
What's his worst?
Killers Kiss

surprised this isn't memed here more
He doesn't say that because he means it though. It even pains him to say it. He says it because he can't have any witnesses to him shooting the horse.

You didn't like the shining
No
Why does everyone love dr strangelove
because it's good
Both Clockwork and Dr.Strangelove aged like milk. In 2024 these films are fricking garbage.
>Both Clockwork and Dr.Strangelove aged like milk
I would like to hear why you think clockwork orange has aged poorly

Imagine having Sterling Hayden in your movie and you still can’t make it good. God, Stanley Kubrick is an absolute hack of a director.
Its definitely one of his least controversial and more accessible films if nothing else
Killer's Kiss is better.

Here’s a fun game to play: try to think of a Tarantino movie that doesn’t rip this film off in some way.
Tarantino openly said that Reservoid Dogs was his version of The Killing
>get top billing
>barely 20 seconds in the movie
Wow
he really does gets no respect
What a coincidence, I saw this movie like two days ago at my local theatre. Do you live in the same area?
