First insidious is unironically one of my favorite horror kinos and I feel it doesn't get enough love
>The scene where the ghost constantly gets closer in the photographs >Family has the sense to actually move from the haunted house which in turn sets up the twist >Pic related is genuinely unnerving >Elises mooks and their analouge equipment bring a fun blue-collar vibe to the paranormal investigation with how routine they are which makes them interesting characters in their own right
tbh I like it better than the Conjuring. Any other similar kinos like it? I've already seen all the sequels.
This. I watched both for the first time a few days ago. The Conjuring is kind of just a servicable haunted house thriller. McDonalds Exorcist. Whereas Conjuring 2 hsa actually stuck with me and genuinely creeped me out. Wish the ending wasn't as underwhelming though. The first one had a more satisfying climax.
That nun was fucking scary though. The spin-offs look like shit, but that original instance is chilling.
can i watch conjuring 2 without knowing the first one? I dropped it around halfway when it hit me there is no story(just a collection of scenes) and all the scares were too calculated to be really scary
Yeah, these movies kind of work as anthologies with just the two main ghost hunters as the recurring protagonists. They're like Bond or Indiana Jones where you can drop in with any of them. The second is formatted identically:
>Opening sequence with the ghost hunters >Text crawl explaining who they are and what we're about to see >First 30mins establishing family being haunted >Ghost hunters get involved and investigate >Climax
But yeah, the second just does so much more entertainingly and is much creepier.

I thought they did explain him in the movie, didn't they? Maybe not directly like his tragic backstory or whatever, but thought he was some sort of gatekeeper demon guy. It's been a long time.
It's pretty great. The hat kid ghost scene especially gets me. The other world (forgot its name) is disjointed and weird, like you are experiencing a nightmare.
House (1985) had a weird atmosphere like that at times, even though it was a horror comedy.
Congratulations, you discovered that horror works better if it is left to imagination instead of overexplained. >the creators never made a backstory for it
They probably did in some of the sequels.
I actually liked the second better. The ghost lady being a tranny buffalo bill with a crazy abusive mother was genuinely a nice twist. Patrick Wilson carries these fucking movies tho.
But they did
No they didn’t retard
Yes they did spergy. Red Door deals extensively with him and the clues about what he represents scattered in previous movies
Did I blank out? I remember watching Red Door but its not like it explained shit about Maul, it just raised more questions
What were some of the clues?
He's talking out of his ass. They never explain shit about Darth Maul throughout all five movies.
How utterly retarded can you be? Insidious Red Door is 100% about this creature's origin dummy, stop embarrassing yourself
whats his origin then?
He barely appears
Do you know what a backstory is?
Do you know what a franchise is?
Im pretty sure that maul has some backstory
he clearly just woke up, looking at his hair
that's a starting point

I feel like this was one of the first to kick off the 80's nostalgia bait
Unnerving? Lol what that’s just a hot slut how is that scary
this movie was weird and jarring in part because gritty torcher porn was in vogue at the time.
I didn't like it at first but it actually pretty good
How the fuck is insidious tortureporn or gritty at all? Fucking retards on this board jesus christ
I said it wasn't and thats why it seemed weird at the time you esl truetard
The first Conjuring was kino. Maybe i'll give it a rewatch this October.

He’s right behind me, isn’t he?
