It literally started out as a ben affleck project before being overhauled multiple times including during production with extensive reshoots. I think it looked pretty good. It's still not as good as the truck chase in TDK, though. It wasn't set up well, I agree, and Batman is way too indifferent about the destruction he helped cause.

Out of all the things you'd cut you're going to cut the best action scene in the whole film? The reason it was so long is because they were trying to develop Batman, Catwoman and Riddler and to a lesser extent Gordon and Penguin and Falcone all in the same movie.

The best action scene was was the first two fight scenes. This dredge of a car chase scene was so unnecessary and unsatisfying. And it was all fake it's not like it was great stunt work.

Joker in name only got them a fricking billion dollars. At this point DC has to stop fricking caring about the source material. Most people don't give a frick as long as you entertain them for a while with something. Comic nerds don't matter.

            Anonymous

It made a billion dollars because let's face it, Joker is the most popular character in comics and Joaquin did a good job, even if it wasn't true to the source material. The hype around it didn't hurt, either.

              Anonymous

I don't understand why they didn't continue his story with The Batman. Do a time jump, Arthur is older but wiser, maybe kill him in the sequel and make him do "an inspiration" so another Joker comes. I don't dislike the new Joker but would be kino to see Joaquin Phoenix and Robert Pattinson sharing screen at least once.

Arthur is never going to be be THE Joker. He's just a mentally ill loser called liek a famous Batman character

There's no THE Joker. Batman, Joker, all those characters, are not real characters. They're not literature. They're not "people". They're concepts, at best. Concepts you can use. There are so many fricking versions of each of them it's impossible to do a "loyal" version of anything. That's why comics are a dying artform at this point.

                Anonymous

Yes there is. Otherwise the character doesn't even eixst.

                >There are so many fricking versions of each of them it's impossible to do a "loyal" version of anything.
Revisionist shit. An arguemnt used by apologists to defend the flood of reimaginings that those companies use to dilute a clear concept that everyone undestood as true and recognizable for decades.
If a true version didn't exist, we wouldn't have movies about them now.

                >Buckets of vague malleable traits aren't characters.
That's what comic book characters are, moron. We are not talking about beautiful written characters here, we are talking about characters made for children, and not the kind of characters in stories for children that were well written and told. Most comic book characters are one dimensional, and two dimensional at best. That's why they were used so often as just propaganda and still are. Remember Superman punching Hitler in the face? Not so different from Falcon giving a speech to a senator about "YOU GOTTA DO BETTER!". See?

Does he fight any of his rogues in Gotham in the Snyder cut of Justice League?

I've seen the theatrical version and the only thing he fights there is a frickin bug.

He fights somewhat better bugs in ZSJL, it's a bit weird but less jarring than the theatrical cut.

I'm a huge Snydergay but this is true, the Snyder movies are all ZSJL projects, they aren't stand alone batman or superman movies.

They don't do enough with Scarecrow, Katie Holmes is not very good, The Raas fight and how he dies isn't done well

But I'm glad it exists so we don't get another trudge into Bruce Wayne's journey into becoming 1st Year Batman.

What else do you want from Scarecrow? They kind of got all the best parts. Katie Holmes is a beautiful woman and that's all her job is. I could argue The Batman didn't do enough with Riddler and Penguin. They certainly didn't do enough with Maroni even though his arrest is essential to the story. Only hardcore batman fans can even understand what's happening and who he is.

            >What else do you want from Scarecrow
More screentime of him being fricking Scarecrow.

By the time he's enjoying the mass fear on his horse he gets tased in 5 minutes and sent off. He felt like a leftover from Batman: Triumphant.

            >Wasn't enough Maroni
The amount of Maroni was perfect, you got his smug nature with Bruce and finished his storyline with Catwomen.

            >Riddler
Much like Seven you spend more time trying to catch the criminal than actually being with the Criminal. I think that was a fine choice.

            >Penguin
You could argue that, however he's not gone for good and they're giving him a miniseries somewhere down the line.

See you make an excuse for the Riddler barely appearing in The Batman but complain about Scarecrow in Begins, who appeared way more, and actually fricked up main characters like Batman and Rachel. Referencing Seven doesn't change that.

I don't care about Paul Dano Riddler as much as I care about the wasted potential of Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow.

Plus The Batman gets away with by out kino-ing Begins.

So you admit the villain is worse in The Batman, but also claim it's more kino? What type of moronness is this?

                Anonymous

But Scarecrow isn't the villain in Begins, Raas Al Ghul is. Scarecrow is like Penguin only instead of getting his own show he shows up for smaller roles in the next two movies. Nolan utterly wasted Cillian and Scarecrow.

So now we are comparing Paul Dano Riddler with Liam Neeson Raas. Dano Riddler was better in 5 minutes singing Ave Maria than literally all of Lima talkingtalkingtalkingtalking, simple as.

Not at all. Ras was an actual mentor for Bruce. He had a fatherly relationship with him and helped shape in some ways. And Ras and Bruce actually had fights, unlike Riddler and The Batman.

Again, you can't cite tv shows and other shit that isn't in the actual movie, to argue the movie was better or worse.

Paul Dano clearly had ZERO direction from the director on what to do with the character. A lot of the scenes look like he was told 'just act crazy', 'just act moronic'.

              >>"I just had to look at you once to realize you were Batman because I was an orphan you see"
Obviously this was super moronic like most of the movie's plot. However, the relationships between characters was kino. Specifically Bruce and Alfred, Bruce and Lucius, Bruce and Gordon, and Bruce and Robin. There relationships were heartfelt and soulful the entire trilogy. They are emphasized even more in Rises, which makes that movie more soulful than most. Plus the whole actual film making thing with real stunts and fights.

It's amateurishly directed/written: the cinematography has some weird angle choices and uneven lighting. The music themes (Darth Vader ripoff/Ave Maria chords) are repeated too often. Many of the dialogue lines are trite.

I enjoyed it because it felt different from the usual capeshit schlock but there were issues like Catwoman should've been cut entirely, Alfred wasn't very good but I can understand why they went this way and the ending is a bit bleak, Riddler won and you think showing him having an autistic freakout moment changes this?

      >Riddler won
      >The best Batman can achieve is saving a few more people in the final stage of Riddler's plan and have a moral epiphany
      >Riddler being a giant perfectionist egomaniac is not satisfied with his grand work being tainted
People complain about the last 30 minutes but it's lasting effects on Gotham and Batman justifies it imo

this shit was at least 45 minutes too long
catwoman didnt need to be in the movie at all, she was so uninteresting
a few of the riddles were good, wish that they gave batman more detective things to do. they tried but i wanted more. he should have really outsmarted the riddler somehow
i like he was a little more grounded, but at the same time he survived way too many bullets and i csnt emphasize how unbelievably bored i felt during the majority of this movie. i cant say that about the nolan movies

NO ONE in the history of batman media has ever found the mob part to be the most compelling part of it.
why would you base your movie around it? the riddler is so irrelevant to the plot he disappears from it for 45 min.

the great cinematography is the only reason people are fooled into thinking this trash was good.

In The Batman sequel, he is gonna institute a city-wide ordinance to stop the incel menace. Proof-of-sex passports will be needed to go anywhere in public.
