Yes, the whole schtick of liminal spaces and dreamy vaporwave type stuff is that they are dreamlike insofar as they are oddly empty and low on detail. I remember a dream from when I was five years old where I was stuck in a never ending chain of hotel hallways like pic related, and I could hear my family member's muffled voices that was somehow outside these infinite halls.

I was running scared trying to find them, but shit was also kino. I get the scary aspect of liminal spaces, but to me its more cool and relaxing.

I was like 4 years old during that time and this song represents a pretty much first time lecture of no matter how much joy something brings you it will ultimately end and you'll be left on your own in the cold dark world again. It's a bittersweet, dreadfull feeling and your brain will only make this connection to the song if you're still young and impressionable enough. You wont have the same impression if your older, thats why you had to be a Zoomer to experience Spongebob the right way.

I wonder what they all experienced differently from older generations that makes them like this. It's just so odd, I don't understand even what they are talking about and why is an empty mall mentioned as the default every time?
So they grew up watching malls all over close and go out of business and it symbolizes the end of their childhood and the good life that they don't even fully appreciate? Hence the emptiness is what scares them?
      I'm reaching here...I honestly just don't know

I think it's more that they don't know what to do with nothing, the constant stimulation they experienced completely stopped all creative thought. Being left alone with no phone in an empty room is terrifying because they have never been alone with their thoughts or tried to entertain themselves.
Where as I see an empty mall and immediately think wow fun! I wish i had roller skates, or we could play hide and seek, or capture the flag is endless, a blank slate of fun, you just have to come up with your own. Zoomers have never had to do this so it's not scary... just foreign and it leaves them feeling as empty as their imaginations.

I don't like the term "liminal space" but those kinds of areas have been in art forever. There is a certain feeling of longing that I get when I see a picture of an empty store, but it's not fear. It's a kind of lonely peace, the same kind of feeling you get from looking at a painting of a meadow, maybe. Photography is a form of art.

Anyone else had this dream as a kid where you took this lift and instead of going where you wanted it to go, it went sideways and upwards and downwards and accelerated really fast and went in all the directions a lift shouldn't be able to go, and then it led you to some place where monks where praying and chanting and you were kinda stuck there and then you woke up? And then you experience the same dream a few more times and then it suddenly stops and you never have that dream again?

      Repeating dreams thread?
For me it was always one where I'm for some reason in a space hotel on the saturn moon Mimas. I have no idea why or what that means, I don't even care about Mimas, but for some reason I have had an exact dream that's always the same multiple times about this hotel that is on there for some reason that I have a vacation at.

I used to have this dream when I was younger where my dad would get out of his van to go in the store or whatever while I was in the passenger seat and it would drive off on it's own. I had it a few times and they were super vivid but they stopped.

What was that scene inspired by/based on?
Stylistically it's too interesting for they have come up with it from scratch for a 2 minute bit of a comedy cartoon

The concept of purgatory has been around for a long time zoomer.

Jesus christ zoomers can't even into creativity.

A 30 sec brainstorm of just the word purgatory could have had this thing hashed out in an afternoon, asthetic and all.

            lmao you're beyond clueless

a lot of spongebob episodes are wholesale references to other things. you're delusional and fail to grasp all that went into such a scene

I think growing up watching family guy has giving you a false sense as to what being creative or funny really is. Not everything is a cutaway gag anon.

Took you that long to find it? Congrats on the epic pwnage zoom zoom.
Btw if a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound, if you make a reference that nobody gets...I think you see where I'm going with this.
Put down the iphone and draw a picture or something, I now that blank white page is horrifying but just see what comes out. Might be something lame but you have to crawl before you run anon.
            Goodluck.

I picked up the fact that the presentation was too high concept for a 1 minute gag to be fully original, and I also know for a fact that spongebob is stocked with that sort of film and literary references, hence me asking what it was specifically in this case

So I always assumed this was a call back to some movie or something.
I want to know if the part where sqidward just curls up in a ball and starts reverse bowing and screaming "Future....Future....Future!!!" Is a specific reference. Always made me laugh and thought, this had to be some reference.

You pretended to know it was in reference to something even though you didn't.
              I made no such claim.
I'm not sure what's more pathetic that you have such little capacity for creative thought that is inconceivable that a 2 min purgatory scene couldn't possibly be original, or that you think you're the winner here because you lack said creativity and were right about it.

Even Arthur had an episode about swearing. Kids need to learn that there are words you shouldn't say. Only thing Spongebob did differently was have the moral that everyone swears.
