Wall-E is the Global South, the fat, lazy and ugly people are wealthy Westerners who could afford to flee the planet that their fictional Amazon corporation fricked up. The USA is beyond saving, we've become such a hedonistic and disgusting people. Either we're woke liberal homosexuals, or we're sad christo-nationalists who have braindead fantasies and delusions about the past of this shithole of a country and what Christianity is supposed to be. I'll give you a pro tip. The US was founded on the Enlightenment principles by masons. Your country was designed to end up this way, much like the West. It's the logical conclusion of a godless society even if unintentional. The US has been reduced to very simple Manichean dialectics, in other words your country's philosophy and religion is based on ancient gnosticism.

No, it's about dualistic dialectics. Reducing everything to something in tension with one another. The US is the master of this.

That seems to be the origin of this issue. I believe St. Augustine influenced the West with his experience with Manicheanism even when he denounced it. This 'black and white' view of the world comes from Manicheanism which was revived during the Enlightenment. A simple example could be Marx's manifesto separating the classes into proletariat and bourgeois and creating a tension between them.

Those are irrelevant to the West. I'm talking about a specific revival of ancient gnosticism that was inherently Western and gave you the example of St. Augustine importing it into Western thought. Either way this is a small point I don't care much about. I am interested in the collapse of traditional West and development of the modern West/world.

There's a couple things that influenced the mindset of the West like the development of humanism (democracy, fascism, communism), nihilism, the Reformation (classical liberalism), and the Schism (separation from tradition). The importation of Aristotelianism from Constantinople after the 4th Crusade which influenced Luther and consequently the entire West. There is also a western revolutionary spirit, this can be seen with the US, French, Spanish, and Soviet revolutions and the modern 'Great Reset' as our latest project.

While I understand the US’ origins, and by virtue of that, the country’s fixation on esoterica and the “classical period”, your argument seems to be misunderstanding a “common intellectual ground” with a deliberate effort to ferry over and implement those ideas. So while you may be noticing real migration of ideas, your understanding of the “why” side seems very incomplete. Your argument almost implicitly treats those major nations as if they lived in a bubble - and by that I mean, you’re suggesting that these ideas could only have deliberately/directly been brought over and instilled rather than more of a natural migration through basic associations, media, non-political interactions. Comes off like you have a bit of a fixation, really.

Nothing is grass roots, most things are planned, financed, designed, and executed for a specific purpose. My "why" is theological, it's essentially the consequences of moving away from God.

You implied grass roots by saying "natural migration". Again, nothing just happens, there's an ordered system in place for a specific reason regardless of which epoch we're talking about. I'm not going to do all the heavy lifting in a conversation but I'm done with my rant.

I saw Wall-E twice in theaters when I was 9.
I swore I would dedicate my life to the environment and not become a mindless consumer like that fat goy cattle in the Buy and Large space ship, and you know what? 5 years later I had a smart phone, 10 years later I starting paying brown people to deliver fast food to my door so I wouldn't have to leave the house, and now, 13 years later, I remember I haven't done any environmental stuff in over a year. I'm just another boomer, caught in the consumption machine, too full of self-pity and anxiety to try and make a difference.

See, here, you are saying the exact same thing you said here

Veganism is an arbitrary system of beliefs that takes a reaction to a real ethical dilemma and extrapolates that into a jackbooted, irrelevant practice. Veganism stops making sense when you realize they wouldn’t alter their beliefs *at all* even if you solved all of their ethical hangups with consuming animal products. They’d simply find new reasons for doing what they already do.

and now, I implore you to do a little bit more research into the land clearing and environmental waste that is created by the meat industry. I'm not one of those loons that things cow farts are warming the Earth but factory farming causes a lot of pollution we can see with our own eyes.
Vegans are removing themselves from the meat industry's customer base and thus starving them of capital with which to cause even further pollution. How is that pointless?

the point is the only effect "temperance" had was prohibition, which in effect was only a thing to shakedown smaller brewers/distilleries and put regulations into place to limit the ability of smaller entities to sell a product.

That’s a town, not a state, and that just means your town has given up mayoral powers. Probably because the rest of your local politicians want as much corporate money as possible, instead of most of it going to the mayor.

Dude, you're not making a difference when you go to a booth to vote. It's akin to thinking your letter of concern to a senator will be read and taken into consideration. You're thinking of democracy and your individual power on a 'it looks good on paper' kind of way when it has zero semblance to the reality of the situation. But go ahead and vote, it makes no difference to me (or you).

Think about it, how could the average goy overturn the fiat system that was imposed by the most powerful people in the US back to the gold standard? It'll never happen, I guarantee it. so lets flip this then, replace temperance with veganism so maybe you can understand what's happening today

                >pro-meat eaters and "vegans" still exist

people who don't like drinking still exist, there are still tons of laws dealing with how/when/where a person can drink, huge amounts of regulations on who can distill what and how. therefore "pro-drinkers" still exist, because they want those regulations/laws reduced/removed.

                Anonymous

The actual argument was that veganism is a reactionary movement, reacting to concerns about ethics in food production. Absent of those concerns, veganism no longer has a meaningful function, and would disappear. This makes it an especially silly and frivolous ideology. They find the food industry unethical, they don’t find eating eggs or cheese unethical. The reaction doesn’t actually “directly follow” from the issue itself and is superfluous.

Let's recount how you got here.
Firstly you said that Americans are the only Cinemaphileners worth their salt here

They were dunking on Nihilists. that was the entire point of the movie.
Negative buttholes who just gave up on life and effort.
Wall E was the counter of that. That lil homie never gave up and was always positive. He finally got tired and found someone to help him out.
The more I am on here, the more I realize, America is Wall E, and the rest of the world is just worthless. I've been seeing the flags on here now for 5 months on Cinemaphile.

Really foreigners are almost all just pure trash. Maybe they aren't physically fat, but they really are miserable worthless pieces of shit and the only positive ones left are the rare americans.

then when I said Americans should take SOME responsibility for the planets pollution you just took it as an attack on your country here

all i'm getting from your post is

That's another subject but the problem is the same for Europe and US. Real efficient means of curbing real or perceived pollution are ignored for friends and middlemen doing backroom deals for the dumbest shit imaginable. Its why you had Germany completely reliant upon russian energy and when it was brought up a few years ago they laughed, or why UK ships wood from Canada and US to burn for "green" energy. Its all a big joke. Funny enough, new versions of old tech can help, things like building up rail infrastructure like the Swiss to get freight off of roads but we are too busy jacking eachother off over paper straws and giving China billions of dollars through things like the Paris climate accord.

And there it is, he bases his entire knowledge of the US on the politics that are distilled to him in whatever backwater yuropeon village hes from. Why are foreigners so obsessed with the “rural” United States? Hardly anybody who lives in what you’d call a “rural area” sees it that way. Unless their community relies heavily on agriculture/animal husbandry, they don’t consider themselves “rural”, even in a lot of “farming communities”, the Ag infrastructure exists mostly separately from the town/city.

Yeah and it’s also really bad for you. If you really feel sad about not being more environmental in your life, it’s never too late to start. There are little things you can do to get involved in community gardens, recycling drives, farmers markets, etc that would only be a couple hours a week. If you start small building habits then you will slowly get more and more involved if it’s what you really want. If it turns out that’s not what you want, then you should be honest with yourself and stop getting upset/beating yourself up about it. Paying attention to politics and voting appropriately can be another angle to participate.

They’d simply find new reasons for doing what they already do.

why is this thread such a screamfest despite the fact OP ignores that the fatness was all-but induced by the controller of the ship?

the thread should've just been laughing at the OP for being such a moron that he missed a massive plot point.

This is probably the most fun I've had in a Cinemaphile thread all year.

That's how bad this board has gotten.

    >no this film isn't anti-fat and pro body shaming, there is nothing wrong with being completely immobile and having evil hal 9000 robots do everything for you
    >no this film isn't actually capitalist and consumerism, the planet being destroyed and everybody getting fat and diseased off mcdonalds is a good thing

how can one kino make both sides cope and seethe so bad?

Who exactly are you quoting here? Can you please proof read your posts in the future? I know this is a free website but I'd much rather not be exposed to such incoherent schizobabble in the future, thank you.

One of his favorite Pixar flicks, but he's also a huge sci-fi lover. Star Trek, Dune, etc.

This movie is very close to being accurate of what the future is going to be like, but we won't have space cruise-ships, nor cleaning robots that have intellect, because people are concerned about why a rice brand is racist and how you're another sex if you think you are but you also are but you're not but you are. Not to mention how corporations blow atmospheric aids every minute but cows farting, eating meat, and driving cars are more demanding than that.
