>It's [got] some problems
Yeah but fortunately it’s just a goofy, absurd comedy and nothing much more than that so it’s pretty easily forgiven. I think as far as the structure and pacing go it’s one of the best underdog “we need to set aside our differences and work together and raise money to save (insert anything here)” comedies of an entire pre-woke era. The racial fighting definitely would have been played a lot different if it came out a couple years later.
While I agree the direction was nothing special I don’t think it was necessarily all that bad and it’s fine because it didn’t need to be for what it was trying to accomplish. I do however disagree that Coogan was miscast, I think he was great in it
alright, question to the britbongs and Partridge-aficionados: where the frick do i start with him and will i appreciate him? i've watched The Thick of It (and really liked it), but i'm concerned i just won't understand what Coogan is lampooning
You have an advantage as our tv shows are often only 6-8 episodes. You could start with The Day Today for a intro to Partridge as he’s in it sporadically. Then do I’m Alan Partridge both seasons
Armando Iannucci, who wrote that, also co-wrote Alan Partridge/The Day Today. If you can appreciate the humour in British mundanity you should understand it well enough, even if you haven't encountered much in the way of awful UK daytime telly.
PLEASE RESPOND

YA DICK
I hardly ever see mention of this absolute kino on here but god damn does this movie put me in hysterics every time I watch it.
It's for some problems, but it's a hidden gem for sure.

Great script but bad direction and Coogan was miscast
