>watched this a long time ago, thought it was okay >watched it again last month on a plane flight and it was 10/10 >realize its because ive become so starved of non pozzed media that watching something i used to think was okay suddenly turned amazing by virtue of having an all white male cast
Great movie simply because it wasnt pozzed. Ill even look past the ending part where they slipped in a couple of Black folk and an Indian just because of how bad movies are these days
that one is amazing. when you watch, keep an eye out for footage of an Englishman in the trenches at one point who looks at the camera and smiles as someone else says "we're in the films now, boys." the smiling englishman is a dead-on copy, perfect-twin doppleganger of my brother. I'd have sworn he time-traveled to WWI and found a camera just to frick with me, the cheeky bastard

Yeah I saw that on my second watch. What a fantastic movie. I love the little details like that.
so glad i saw this on a big screen
special movie
frick the people who orchestrated those wars
I don't think they really knew what they were doing or capable of with their new technology and evolving tactics at the time but is this even based on a true story?
>but is this even based on a true story?
No, and radio communication was quite sophisticated at the time actually. Every artillery battery was in communication with aerodromes, and every scout and recce plane had their own direct wireless communication on board, and in real time could relay messages with arty batteries themselves as they were flying over the lines
>1917: troony in the Trenches
more like i want my $19.17 back
>thinks there were multiple soldiers available to run off on missions
>army of 1+ million can't spare 20 more guys
they really couldn't
yes they could.
except they couldn't
Historian here. They definitely could
>deliver this message to the next border post the movie
I hate when a war movie makes some contrived scenario so our main characters can go off on their own adventure outside the normal chain of command.
name 3
Saving Private Ryan
Sure why not? All kinds of stuff could happen in that scenario.
and we have plenty of examples of what I'm talking about
such as Band of Brothers
There could be a whole movie that takes place next to an artillery piece. Something like My Dinner with Andre or Phonebooth
we still haven't had a movie that properly portrays trench warfare beyond the "looks how le muddy and gross it is"
>i want to watch some uneducated Hispanic load artillery shells for two hours
yes
One of the top ten movies of the decade.
I agree. Not because this movie was so great but because that decade sucked.

>film is one continuous shot
>two hours long
>goes from afternoon to early morning the next day
there's a timeskip after tommen dies and he makes it to the destroyed building, i think he sleeps
There's one where he gets shot by the sniper and passes out. But he wakes up and it's night time. It got to day quickly after that.
>if the mission fails, 1200 British soldiers will die
So an average day in the western front, then.
>general wants to save 1600 lives
>sends only 2 guys, 1 dies halfway
>doesn't send a squad at the bare minimum
If he sent a squad it would have been noticed. But the solution is you send multiple teams of two or three.
Any director after the invention of Steadycam who makes a long continous shot like this one is a pretentious poser.
Also why didn't the krauts attack the convoy passing through?
NOW FRICK OFF LANCE CORPORAL
Why was Bendick a douchebag?
Great movie simply because it wasnt pozzed. Ill even look past the ending part where they slipped in a couple of Black folk and an Indian just because of how bad movies are these days
Post more Great War kinos
>rewatched this about 3 times in the span of a couple months
Frick it I'm gonna watch it again tonight
