No it actually wasn't, 9 was a moron and he reactivated the robot by putting the artifact because "curiosity"

Because it's stupid and I hate how every moron thinks adding PUNK at the end of things makes it a genre. It doesn't.

stitchpunk was a term that existed more or less only at the time 9 came out, right around 2010 at the peak of steampunk's popularity as a genre. There's a reason you don't really see it anymore, it was a niche subset of a niche genre that only really described a certain aesthetic within that genre.

          Anonymous

But it isn't being used to describe a genre.
It's the name for the ragdoll characters' 'species'.
Did you not read the post you are referring to?

It doesn't matter, he's right. "X-punk" was a stupid meme for ignorant people, not always used to describe a genre, and 2009 was its height. I'm pleased it's died out enough that you don't immediately recognise that.

It's based on a 2005 short film without dialogue. The short is actually better than the movie it spawned.

some stories just work better as short films. They used to release anthology movies occasionally which told different stories lasting around 20-30 minutes each, usually horror movies, but I don't see why the formula wouldn't work for other genres

I think the movie could've worked better if the machine was active and had a purpose outside of yeah humanity is dead i'm gonna make weird machines.
Like there's more context than story in the movie.

Agreed, I remember seeing trailers as a kid thinking it looked so cool and didn't end up seeing it in theaters, then years later it was on Netflix and so I watched it and wow what a mediocre waste of potential.
Like most bad animated movies the concept art is probably really good. I wonder what the main factor was in this movies mediocrity.

The short film got an academy nomination. Probably one reason why they decided to make a movie out of it. Skip to 2:55
