Imagine if a cursed videotape made a little girl crawl out of whatever TV you had, wherever you were, no matter how isolated and away from other people you were. Wouldn't that be fricked up?

      Unironically, yes, it would.

      The american remake was good

Video tape delivers asian women into your home

      >cute girl comes out of my tv
      >this is supposed to be scary

That's just what I wish would happen every time I watch a movie.

Would it be possible to frick the ring girl? Is there any way, in universe, that such a thing could be done?

NOOO SCARY GHOST GIRL WITH PORCELAIN WHITE SKIN AND JET BLACK HAIR DONT HAUNT ME BY COMING OUT OF MY TV LATE AT NIGHT AND MAKING ASMR NOISES AT ME WHILE HALF NAKED NOOOOO NOOOOO ANYTHING BUT THAT NOOOO!!!!!

      She canonically has a penis

It's not a fetish. It's in the second ring book and the first sequel to the ring, spiral. Sadako is a hermaphrodite

So what's the point of spooky japanese television woman? I know the books go hard into sci-fi craziness but what's her dreams, goals and motivations? Just to be spooky?

She wanted people to know what happened to her and spread her curse.
Videotape was the way to go in the 90s.

There is a certain charm about the Japanese horro movies from that period, like Ringu, Ju-On, Kairo, that makes them terribly scary to my eyes

Japanese horrors are the only one that manage to be creepy, for whatever reason. I have no idea how can someone be spooked by stuff like Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th etc.

    No. It's not.
Aside from the dissapointing monsters From is the only frightening peice of media.
Bad characters take away some of the scare though. The expendables get more empathy than the main cast. The sense there is no safety at night is done well. Monsters toying with people. The threat feels real. You can put yourself in their position, where inaction isn't safe.

As usual with a series it devolves from the concept to social drama.

Which does the opposite of it's intention. Gives a disconnect as nobody interacts believably or appreciably.

TLDR watch From. Not fricking jokes from japan.
