the show isn't even particularly humorless, there's plenty of banter between reece and riggins, banter between other characters and rivalries between different service members, pratt goofiness sometimes slipping through, most of the kills have a sly sense of irony, casting people like sean gunn, the whole point of jai courney's character being a try hard poser, there's something inherently playful about the unreliable narrator gimmick at the beginning almost like a cheeky meta pastiche of the action conspiracy thriller genre, the show is clearly self aware of its tropes and having fun with it, even the violence of the gutting is so over the top in a pulpy comic book way, etc there's plenty of clever, humorous material even if it's dark

However, I do not think that the author picking glioblastomas as the illness was a coincidence. They are starting to happen more and more frequently and literally no one knows why. When you decide to only criticize some people for a thing everyone does, it makes it clear that it's about the people, not the act.
