Prequel? No, it won't work. A part of Supernatural is it needs to have a timeframe. Something iconic about the times to work in. For Supernatural, ironically, it was the generic Americana of two White guys cruising in a muscle car circa the aughts and 10's. That's been done now, though. Whatever decade the prequel is in needs to be hammed up for the setting to work and differentiate it from Supernatural. The 90's wouldn't quite work since it's not the 80's but it's not the aughts.

Anon gets it. Even at its worst Supernatural was just a fun watch and the one off episodes were always enjoyable.

Haven't seen an episode since that Trenchcoat angel guy started appearing. Do they still hunt for random creatures or is it still the boring angel shit?

I liked when it was just two brothers travelling the country hunting down ghosts and urban legends, so I kinda checked out after season 3.

It's a CW show and they never cancel anything, well until recently. Despite what they said publicly they probably canceled it because CW didn't renew their streaming deal with Netflix.

the deal was Netflix could air the shows as along as they were still on air and 5 years (I think) after their cancellation. so after the allotted time Supernatural will be streaming on HBOMax.

that would have been equally shit and you know it
also that weird vampire spinoff they set up in like season 5 that never happened

Well, it would been canceled after season 1, and was a borderline delusional idea.
Fangirls of Supernatural hated other women, which is why Dean and Sam stopped having romantic affairs. So, making a show about women hunting, wouldn't have hit the same market.

This is going to make no sense as everything their dad faced was comparatively low stakes. They're going to have to retcon all the backstory from the early seasons of Supernatural.

Name a show in the last 25 years that features two male masculine heterosexual white characters. Women crave that shit. They want it in real life, but can't have it in real life so they obsess over the fictional ones.

sadly the prequel to it looks like it'll be shit

    Pretty simple answer
The show was carried by its two charismatic leads, so it didn't matter it had shoestring budged. It is more surprising Jared and Jensen agreed to do it for 15 years.

Stopped watching after they fought Lucifer, that was supposed to be the end of the show and it was like season 5 or 6.

That's truly how it felt. Lucifer fight felt like everything in the show had led up to it and like a climax. And then the next season comes and it feels like they are getting paid by a rich fan to write fanfiction episodes for the next 10 seasons.

It should have ended after the Lucifer battle in season 5. After that, the show became far too aware of its own fanbase and every episode was packed to the gills with fanservice and le randumb cute Castiel and other shit.

    >Castiel when he was first introduced
    >Angel so powerful his voice could deafen you
    >Literally left a handprint burned into Dean's chest as he pulled him out of Hell

    >Castiel after season 5
    >So quirky xD Look how he holds the fake FBI badge upside down :3 How silly!

the show was supposed to end after 5 seasons but it was too popular for them to cancel it. after that it was pure let's do whatever the fans want to see for 10 more seasons

I've never seen it said so succinctly how the angels went from badass on introduction to overused and slightly stronger than humans. They should have had better storyboarding for the future if they wanted 10 seasons.

I liked the show with the exception of turning God into a pasty dweeb with abandonment issues.
Not because God is sacrosanct, rather because it was low-brow and just stuck in my craw.
Like it was just a YA fanfic rip of Preacher.
Everyone vying for control of Heaven was well and good, keep that.
Should have just left God out of it period maybe...and not give Him a sister.

It had a loyal fanbase that kept watching, including me. Yes the quality took a bit of hit after season 5 or whenever Kripke was done. But I found it nice and comforting that the brothers were still around.
It was just comfy kino. It also gradually became better again with some really bad moments sprinkled in. Frick the ending though.
I wish they went on for 15 more seasons.

I think it was ballsy of them to have literal God in the show. But having something that powerful getting "outsmarted" and committing to fist fight just irked me. If you're going to go cosmic powerlevel, then make sure you write cosmic shit. If you can't do that, keep the powers low-level.
Michael vs Lucifer fight was supposed to be an apocalyptic battle. It ended up being a bunch of dudes slowly and awkwardly floating in the air in a church. I wish they simply didn't do that.
