Because it was explained that the sword corrupts the user. While he was under the swords influence he wanted to use the wish to kill all the gods. It was only after the sword was destroyed and with some convincing by Thor and Jane he wished for his daughter back.

I mainly like this movie because it emphasized that the Asgardians are viking gods, and the introduction of several pantheons of gods. It's something I've been missing the entire MCU because of the initial ancient aliens deal which now is retconned.
Also the fight on the black and white planet was very good, and the final fight as well. I actually don't mind the kids as a whole getting powers, because they were god kids to begin with, plus they got powers from Thor in addition, and they weren't the main focus.

These actors are eventually going to record all their lines over the phone and their performances are just going to be deepfaked onto stuntmen.

The problem is largely the script. Ragnarok was written by someone else, so it was just standard marvel fare with a generous dash of Taika's visuals and humour, which, like it or not, was well received. He had too much control here, outside of his aesthetic flair he has nothing going for him, all his movies are low budget comedy flicks with loose plots. He clearly doesn't know how to properly tell a story and develop characters.
Damn, Marvel had 2 mildly received movies this year. And all they have for the future is The Replacements. I'd be sweating if I were Feige. They put fricking Mr. Fantastic in a movie AND Prof. X and no one cared.
You know what, it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be based on the reviews comparing it to Batman and Robin. I honestly kinda liked the first half more or less, but it kinda fell off the rails a little when they get to Olympus. The final confrontation with Gorr was alright, but Gorr was so basic and had such little screentime I didn't care too much and the ending was a bit moronic with Thor adopting Gorr's daughter, who I guess was a character we should like because she's a kid with two lines of dialogue. Overall, the movie is not really shit, but it's just almost completely pointless as Thor starts and ends the movie with no noticeable changes to his character and nothing changed for the Gods, Asgard, or literally anyone other than Jane dying I guess.
After watching the Boys, I can't help but think that this movie is an in-universe movie about Heroes in the Boys Universe. It was that ridiculously bad and campy.

It was really amateurishly made. When I first saw this clip I assumed a bunch had been cut out, but apart from one small bit of dialogue this is how it plays out in the film.

This is so fricking awful. The dialogue is awful. The inability to commit to a scene without breaking in quips for more than five seconds is awful. Half the time it feels like they're improvising lines on the spot. It's all just a disjointed succession of scenes that exist to fulfill one cringey gag after the other.

The thing I noticed most in this movie is Hemworth's steroid usage is starting to kinda become obvious. Like he was probably on some low level gear in previous movies, possibly just some test and clenbuterol to shred down. But in this movie he's pretty clearly blasting some more hardcore drugs including hgh to get that big. His face looks older and more worn down.

The problem is largely the script. Ragnarok was written by someone else, so it was just standard marvel fare with a generous dash of Taika's visuals and humour, which, like it or not, was well received. He had too much control here, outside of his aesthetic flair he has nothing going for him, all his movies are low budget comedy flicks with loose plots. He clearly doesn't know how to properly tell a story and develop characters.

You know what, it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be based on the reviews comparing it to Batman and Robin. I honestly kinda liked the first half more or less, but it kinda fell off the rails a little when they get to Olympus. The final confrontation with Gorr was alright, but Gorr was so basic and had such little screentime I didn't care too much and the ending was a bit moronic with Thor adopting Gorr's daughter, who I guess was a character we should like because she's a kid with two lines of dialogue. Overall, the movie is not really shit, but it's just almost completely pointless as Thor starts and ends the movie with no noticeable changes to his character and nothing changed for the Gods, Asgard, or literally anyone other than Jane dying I guess.
