Jane was almost always weaker than Thor here

I liked this movie. Thor wasn't a pathetic weakling like in Ragnarok, the fight scenes are some of the best in the MCU, loads of other pantheons introduced and Thor is treated like an actual god finally, Gorr was awesome, and the Thor/Jane romance was surprisingly wholesome.

Jane wasn't being the stereotypical arrogant strong woman, she was flustered around Thor, pushed herself because she wanted to do something great before she dies, and wasn't shown to be stronger than Thor himself in any way, actually a bit weaker which does make sense.

The downsides are the overall comedy and how many characters like the gods of omnipotent city almost seemed like parodies. Zeus was cool and shown to be cold and intelligent, but still had a slapstick moment of wearing a skirt.

And the movie seriously needed an extra 30 minutes. Gorr needed more time.

yeah everyone is being moronic, regardless of whether or not you thought the film was bad, FosThor being "MAry Sue stronk womyn!" being a factor is total bullshit.

He was serious in infinity war but literally reverted to his ragnarok characterization for every appearance in the mcu since

Infinity War portrays his behavior in Ragnarok as a mask to hide the pain of losing everyone and everything he loves in a matter of days. The cracks are forming here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6AVsaJHIOY
And then in Endgame, he's completely lost it and can barely hold himself together for a few minutes at a time. By the end of that film, his Ragnarok arc seems complete, and he's found at least some peace.
Then in Love & Thunder he's pretty much back to the Pagliacci routine without much of an actual reason for it until he meets Jane again.

Ragnarok was *good* though, in ways that this movie wasn't.

It was a visual spectacle without losing its sense of place and presence. It told jokes that didn't detract (for the most part) from the story.

This movie was just frickin bizarre.

Like, people will complain about Guardians of the Galaxy and how those movies won't allow a serious moment to just happen without quips, and I strongly disagree, but this movie, I think that's exactly what happened

        Anonymous

Waititi is more Whedon-esque than people realize. Jojo Rabbit was especially bad in this regard. The best parts of Ragnarok are kind of in spite of Waititi.

          Anonymous

Nah, I gotta disagree there. Waititi is a generally good director, and the "quips" are what made Jojo Rabbit what it was; showing the Nazis as goofy, and Hitler through the eyes of an impressionable youth as kind and funny (until he wasn't) was the whole point.

Love And Thunder though, does get WAY lost in the sauce

It's the shortest marvel movie yet, and it shows in a bad way. The entire plot felt incredibly rushed.
They kept calling Gor a God butcher, but all his killing happened off screen.
How awesome would it have been to see him enter Omnipotent City and kill some gods?

Frick you guys I liked this movie. Finally the Asgardians are portrayed as gods, and we were introduced to other pantheons. Gorr is awesome although has too few scenes. The Thor and Jane romance is actually cute. Thor is portrayed as very powerul, more powerful than Jane, overpowers Gorr on multiple occassions, and nearly kills Zeus, the chief of all the gods. The fights scenes are some of the best of the MCU

Definitely not perfect though. Too much humor and too many Black folk in Asgard

      Anonymous

I mean you're not wrong about the god shit and the fight scenes but everything else is just shit and Gorr is barely in the movie which is baffling. I disliked this movie a lot but at the same time yes the fight scenes were cool and Thor finally feels like a GOD. Pretty much since Ragnarok and then in the infinity war movies his GOD level has been increasing to where he does feel like a god now when he fights. But the movie was shit because of the pacing and dialogue. I felt it was dragging on pretty much the entire time until the last 30 minutes

      >Finally, the Agardians are portrayed as gods
Are they, really? Thor is, Heimdell is. Everyone else might as well be a Very Strong Alien in the sense that 50% of MCU Thanos' threat just comes from his Titan physiology. The likes of Valkyrie for example just stab things or use other gods' weapons. Nobody's bowing down and worshipping the random actors for the Ragnarok play.

All of cape comics depict gods as very strong aliens. Asgard has always had a bunch of scrubs that die to the latest CGI monster horde.

Well there's Morrison in Seven Soldiers/Final Crisis where other very strong aliens look at the New Gods and were freaking out, but in hindsight it's fairly clear nobody else has any goddamn idea how to write the New Gods like he did.

        Anonymous

This movie clearly portrays gods as something more. Many alien species have gods, and the gods from all over the universe has a meething place. They have specific afterlives, can hear prayers etc, and are all very strong. Do you think Gorr goes after strong aliens? How would Gorr's wish to Eternity to kill all gods work out if gods aren't something specific?
Also Thanos was never a god, he's an Eternal, who are just strong mortals.

      >Finally the Asgardians are portrayed as gods, and we were introduced to other pantheons

And now they're hammering into us that they ARE gods. How the frick can anyone still deny that after Love and Thunder? The early MCU was hesitant to embrace magic, but now they're full invested and don't care anymore. Odin's line "We're not gods" has been retconned.

Because this is the first MCU movie to adapt material from the SJW era of Marvel, and that era sucked. Not just because it was woke, but because the writing was terrible.

Haven't seen it but judging by the clips it suffers the same problem Ghostbuster 2016 suffered: they don't give any of their jokes time to breathe and just bumrush you with line after line after line. I also get the feeling they relied on a lot of improv which they probably thought was funny at the time that they shot it but that doesn't really translate to funny for audiences. Like you joking around with friends is going to make you and your buddies laugh, but someone watching a clip of it later won't be nearly as amused. Improv would also explain why there's a four hour cut of the film, because ultimately they shot a bloated mess of footage that had to be trimmed to death.
Again, haven't seen the film. Just basing this off clips I saw.

I liked the scenes in it. There were a lot of moments that on their own were pretty good and enjoyable to watch.

But it barely qualifies as a movie. It felt like a bunch of good ideas for a Thor film that someone just stitched together without actually being able to make them into a gripping cohesive narrative.

Nothing in this film felt exciting or thrilling, just a pretty steady stream of "kinda cool" scenes. Honestly this should've been 2-3 seasons of a Thor TV series instead of a single movie.

      None

Anyone else notice a bunch of weird, hyper-specific similarities between this movie and Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness?

      >The main character, who feels lost in the aftermath of Endgame, is hunted down by a villain who grieves for family members and is being slowly corrupted by the artifact that gives them power.
      >They take a plucky female sidekick with emotional baggage and travel to multiple locations, including one with an emphasis on cameos and one with the saturation slider turned way down.
      >In the end, the main villain gives up willingly when they can see their lost family member(s) again.

        >That said, Tony Leung was a pleasure as always.
One thing that gives Shang-Chi big points from me is just how good the final confrontation between Shang-Chi and Wenwu is. No dumb quips, just actual emotional, believable dialogue, along with good visuals, particularly in the second fight where Shang-Chi uses his mother's techniques and usurps control of the rings. This then extends into the dragon fight later on where he combines the styles of his parents for greater control of the rings than ever before.

Please tell me Thor is shown more powerful than Jane. Since one has powers mimiced of Thor from the first 2 movies and Thor has evolved powerwise.

This movie suffered from an editing problem. Big time. So many scenes were jarringly slapped together, making it feel like a jumbled mess. Which is truly unfortunate, because the good scenes were really good and the action was awesome. Also, Natalie Portman gets worse at acting as she gets older. She looked great, but geez... talk about phoning it in. Hemsworth's arms were huge as frick, and the tattoo on his back was fricking hilarious, and horrible.

I hated the goats so much, I genuinely wish they die. The CGI was horrible and Gorr is such a non factor in this movie despite being the main villain. I genuinely felt nothing during the final fight, it was horribly choreographed.

There was like 0 action in this movie and what little there was was so bad. No Zeus fight at all because he's a fat bumbling idiot, though charismatic. And it kinda irked me how all the female Gods were elegant and beautiful while the male Gods all had wacky/funny designs. Thor and Zeus were idiots, embarrassing actually.

Also it's a problem if Thor has more chemistry with his axe than with Jane Foster. That being said, I did like the little montage of their romantic life. There was potential there. And Thor and Stormbreaker moments were funny.

The pacing is all over the place, the tone is too silly, too many of the other characters only exist to make sarcastic comments. There's too much traveling from place to place to allow anything to breathe so it feels like everything is a prop rather than a world. The korg narration is terrible and shouldn't exist at all, so the writing is also terrible.
