According to The Leach, Black Label will only publish minis, while ongoings, like the Sandman books will move back to Vertigo.

Nope, they had a few semi-reboots with fresh titles, but it operated continuously for more than two decades, until they cancelled it a couple of years ago.

Vertigo became a zombie when Image got its creator-owned program together. There's just very little incentive to go with DC when there's a better alternative unless they're offering a nice exclusive contract and the money isn't there for that anymore.

it makes more sense than Black Labal at least which was Gimped at birth with the bat dick controversy

yeah why go to vertigo and dc especially after the whole fable shitshow, vertigo seems irrelevant now more than ever what advantages do you even get working with satanic corporations like DC

In fairness, Willingham has a reputation for being a tremendous asshole. On the one hand, yeah, DC's infamous for fucking over creatives, but on the other, I'd be amazed if the situation was anywhere near as cut and dried as he's making it seem.

No, he just has a reputation for being a republican.

            >Republican
Yeah, that's a death sentence in the American comic book industry. That's biting them in the ass now.

        > what advantages do you even get working with satanic corporations like DC

A page rate for a creator owned book is a pretty good deal, and not one any of the indies give you.

The advantage would be that DC pays to actually produce the book, while at Image everything has to be fronted by the creative team.
It's up to the person to decide if that's worth not having 50% of the rights.

its seems that its a good idea if you new to the industry but apparently DC can just fuck with your contract and shit once editors come in and out. If you have any weight as a writer you would probably be better off going creator owned in this day and age

Why is Image so shit then?

No good talent left in comics right now. The fact that they're all greedy turds that just want to be millionaires is telling.

Image lacks editors which attracts creators seeking freedom but this results in hiatuses everywhere

      >Vertigo became a zombie when WB changed the Vertigo contracts, and then Image got its creator-owned program together.

      Fixed
Most of the problems stemmed from the contract change because creators realized that if they took the new Vertigo contract, their movie/TV rights would stay with WB for some number of years which eventually led to them going to Image and other places

The izombie series that had nothing to do with the book itself was pretty funny tbh. As was Luci as a crime procedural.

It was fine but that's not what I'm talking about
Creators want to be able to shop around their creator-owned stuff. For every iZombie there's a bunch of other Vertigo film/TV adaptations that stalled and went nowhere. I get why WB changed it because they want to get some kind of benefit, but they need to add some kind of incentive to make up for that

People and vision matter more than the brand. Until we know who are involved, it's lipstick on a pig.

Unless WB changes their draconian policies on creator-owned properties this is going to crash and burn just like the last time.
They need to give an actual reason for big name writers to go with Vertigo over Image or IDW or whoever.

      >They need to give an actual reason for big name writers to go with Vertigo over Image or IDW or whoever.
Right now, there's no particular reason to go with a comic publisher, period.
Remember that suggestion from Mark Millar earlier in the week about giving comic creators royalties, and how one side thought it was brilliant, while the other side thought it would destroy the industry? It didn't dawn on anyone that what he suggested was the norm in book publishing. Once a book recoups the cost of the advance, the split between publisher and author is roughly 50/50. The fact comics media think this controversial shows just how far apart comics is from real publishing, and how narrow the knowledge base is.

        Anonymous

There's also the issue of DC and Marvel not being real comic book publishers. Publishers like Mad Cave get called "IP farms" yet DC and Marvel exist just to make tv and movie adaptable stuff. They aren't in it to sell books.

Why would anyone bother outside of a big paycheck? Even Vertigo in its heyday devolved into movie adaptations (The Losers by Andy Diggle comes to mind). There is no benefit, creatively ergo a large payout is a must.

Please don't. You tried this once and ruined the brand. Then you re-branded as "DC Black Label" which sodomized the corpse.

Just let my boy Constantine die already.

Sandman Universe Hellblazer was fucking great tho, even much better than late-Vertigo Hellblazer. I'm glad it's coming back.

        >Sandman Universe
Fucking low standards from years of substandard garbage. It was shite. Predictable, watered down, very gay shite. That's why it got cancelled like all the rest.

It's not "coming back". DC Black Label miniseries = non canon garbage

This looks like the same situation as DC Rebirth: Memberberries as far as the eye can see. They'll trot out all the old standbys to try and make you forget how John is now a giant homo who can't do anything.

            >Takes place in America
Oh boy, another comic where the big bad is going to be a racist conservative. If we're lucky, he'll be a Donald Trump stand-in just like in "Constantine the Hellblazer".

This is fucking hilarious. Their last Vertigo relaunch (only five years ago was it) was so shit that they buried the brand. They can’t possibly think they’ll do better now.

  9. 2 weeks ago

I don't see what I should I care. Just another relaunch with Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, Hellblazer and some more mediocre Sandman spin offs almost all written by old guys from 90s or no name nepo babies. Vertigo has turned into another old zombie brand just like anything else now, who cares if they don't have new, interesting writers and artists.
