shin godzilla came to a city an hour away from me but this isn't coming ANYWHERE near me. the closest drive is like 3 hours away. fricking ridiculous, why does this have a worse release than shin godzilla which was half a political drama?
my guess is because shin had anno attached, which would've attracted all the evangelion fans
i guess but all the trailers make this seem like a more "traditional" godzilla movie with more mass appeal. why the frick did the slow political movie with a crazy looking unconventional godzilla get a wider release? so unfair.
For some reason it's only showing on the cheap seat theatre for the first week of release. Have to wait 10 days to see it on a proper IMAX screen.
hopefully places around me get more showtimes after the first week but i'm not holding my breath.

Longtime Godzilla fan here but I'm just not excited about this one. I don't like the idea of an all-CGI Godzilla, it inherently lacks soul. Also it just looks bland and corporate. I hope I'm wrong, though.

i swear to god some scenes had physical traditional effects. one scene where he comes out of the water in particular looks like a real physical model, or at least did in theatres.
I thought so too, unfortunately all the scenes shot with any sort of puppet or suit was cut. Toho CGI has gotten that good though

Nah man everything in the movie was CGI. It was intended to look like a suit though.
More than half of all Godzilla movies are "mid". Monsterverse is definitely in the top 50%, meaning slightly better than "mid".

I'm with you, to me Godzilla's whole personality and character came from having humanoid movements in the suit, I did like Shin and this one looks promising, the soundtrack has his classic themes at least.

I've only seen a few Godzilla films and don't care much for most of them except the original, but Minus One blew me away. Easily the best Godzilla film I have watched in terms of both the big fella stomping on shit but also the human drama aspect. Godzilla is really an absolute fricking monstrous butthole in this movie which means they had no make the human characters likable and good to connect with, and they nailed it.
