Time to end the Debate on which is better

I just finished watching every Friday and Nightmare movie last week. Here's what I found:
>First Entries
Nightmare wins here. Friday's original was pretty boring and generic save the last 20 minutes. There's even this scene where the protag spends like 10 minutes making coffee. Yes, 10 WHOLE minutes dedicated towards a time waster. Meanwhile Nightmare on Elm Street 1 is a cinematic mastpiece with impressive writing is engaging from minute 1. The only real issue with it is that Freddy's powers are pretty inconsistent which we'll get to later.
>Reoccurring protags
Another point for Nightmare. Nancy is probably the best final girl in history. The only one to proactively try and stop the killer. She has a natural look to her and a certain determination is enjoyable to watch. Alice sucks though. Meanwhile Pam is okay but too soft and a little dry to watch even if she does seem more natural. Tommy Jarvis is pretty good too but unfortunately they didn't give him much of a proper story arc and he was a little too inconsistent in Part 5.
>Themes
Friday has a better one. It's simple but more suspenseful and works. Meanwhile Nightmares is more meh
>Sequels
Friday is better because they are more consistent. The sequels are usually mediocre to bad, but they are still generally likeable. Meanwhile Nightmare sequels take a huge nosedive in quality and it's embarrassing to watch.
>Consistency
Friday has more consistent movies as you usually get what you expect to see. Even the bad parts should be expected as they are cheap flicks at the end of the day. Meanwhile Nightmare movies a fall apart, right again and then fall apart again
>Lore
Nightmare's lore is definitely better because they are all things that could reasonably be in the story and the potholes aren't noticeable. Meanwhile Friday's lore is pretty inconsistent and the timeline of events have all sorts of errors.
>Side characters
They are both about the same. They almost are always poorly written with few exceptions.

Freddy vs. Jason was a milestone in cinema, and there hasn't been a single cultural product that has managed to even approach the atmosphere of that magical opening weekend. I'm not saying the culture collapsed overnight, but it was all downhill after Freddy vs. Jason was finally delivered unto its North American audience.

Agreed, I remember the October many years ago I watched all the way through both series and finished with FvJ, so satisfying. They so clearly understood the appeal and campy style of both villains and wrote a story that showed them off perfectly. The only thing that could have made it better would have been the rumoured setup to a sequel involving Pinhead from Hellraiser.

Japan tried something similar in 2016 with Sadako vs. Kayako (From Ringu and Ju-On) but it was nowhere near as good, very boring and not nearly enough interaction between the stars.

        sequel?
there where different ending idea's and only 2 actualy got made
scrapped endings (because of money/time constraints or because of licence issues) inclued
        - a giant hand coming out of the lake and grabbing both freddy and jason, pulling them into hell where satan has them fight as gladiators. (too costly)
        - Pinhead appearing and saying "what seems to be the problem gentlemen?" (doug bradley was up for it, but licence and studio issues blocked it from happening"
        - Ash of evil dead showing up to save the day (i think this was again a licence and studio issue preventing it. but it later got turned into 2 sequel comic series)

That moment when Freddy realises he’s in the real world, then turns and sees Jason right fricking there, is forever burned into my mind.

there were rumors they'd film two different endings and you'd never know who'd win in the version you went to. unfortunately the MPAA forbids that kind of thing since their rules state that no two different versions of the same film can be in theaters at the same time.

but didn't the movie Clue have several different endings? and lots of cinema's only aired 1 of the many, so people had to visit multiple cinema's to see all the different endings.
only later with the vhs release, did all the different endings get put together on 1 version.

The guy next to me was on his shitty early Nokia phone running bets with his friends and family on who'd win, and it wasn't spoiled yet because an Indian camrip didn't hit the internet a week prior. You wouldn't think it with a schlocky horror crossover that did a little more than a hundred million at the box office, but it really felt like it had that "everyone is seeing it" energy. Now movies can gross 20 times as much internationally and it just feels meh.

The Nightmare on Elm Street movies are all better than any Friday the 13th movie.

A nightmare on elm street is the weakest of the 3 big slasher franchises.
The first one is great. After that most is awful, with 2 being a gay allegory, 3-6 being pure trash, and 7 being a mix of good and bad. Remake was had potential but is ultimately flawed with emo actors and some bad cg

Friday the 13th is king mainly due to as you said, it's ability to be consistent.
While there are few one would consider top tier (4 an 6 are typically the ones up for debate in that regard), the rest for the most part are decent, or if not at least fun and not crossing over into just plain weird territory. It also has the best 00s reboot

Jason being more of an anti hero in some ways helps the series and acts as a strength, particularly in Freddy vs Jason

Tldr: nightmare is pretty bad outside of the original while Friday is good all the way around for the most part

I like Friday better because I like the innawoods aesthetic of it. The first Friday in particular managed to perfectly encapsulate my anxieties around camping. I can relate to that more than the suburban teenager setting of Nightmare. Friday also just feels less cartoony and more plausible to me.

      >Friday also just feels less cartoony and more plausible to me.
Yeah nightmare just gets way too goofy and weird. I hated 4, 6 I can barely remember beyond it being dumb, can't bring myself to watch 5 cause of how dumb the ones surrounding it are.

I honestly don't even like the style. It just looks gay, can't explain it. Friday is better for that reason alone

F13 is better overall, it embraced sooner the cheesiness and decided what the franchise and genre really is about: Cool kills and teenagers having sex.

I like the first two Fridays but after that it starts to get a bit too campy and repetitive, I especially hate the ones where Tommy Jarvis comes back

Haven't watched any of the Nightmare flicks yet.

Nightmare 1 scared me big time as a kid. But nothing else in the series lives up to it for me. 3 and new nightmare are overrated imo, while 2 and the remake are underrated
Friday meanwhile is not quite as unique but I enjoy Jason lives alot and most of the movies are fun. 2 is underrated I think just because of no mask

the burlac sack look jason had in 2 wasn't that bad. he even had hair (ginger) in that appearance.
i liked the f13 video game, just a damn shame the devs where lazy incompetent moneygrubbers that used the whole f13 lawsuit as an excuse to run away from the game.
each patch and update they released, made the game worse instead of better. at the end the only one's still playing where russian cheaters.

Freddy is more fun since he actually enjoys toying and fricking with his victims. Jason just kills them and moves on without a word. Same as Michael Myers. Chucky and Freddy win it because they're actually characters and just basically mindless killing machine zombies.
Even the killer in I Know What You Did Last Summer was cool because he taunted and terrified the main cast, leaving Galeckis body in Jennifer Hewett's trunk with crabs, cutting off Gellars hair, running over the jock, he could have killed them easily, but the fun of terrifying and dicking with them made it more personal. Basically those characters, Ben Willis, Freddy, Chucky, have character. Jason and Myers have no traits or personality. Though I will give Myers bonus points for stealing his sisters head stone and putting it in her old room.

      >he thinks Jason doesn't toy with their victims
      >what is hiding Ralph's body in Friday 2
      >what is pulling off his mask to sneer at girl in 3
      >what is messing with campers power in 6
      >what is leaving someone outside injured to attract persons friends in remake
      I can go on
To pretend Jason doesn't toy with his victims is foolish.

Bar so low for Friday. Freddy is a far superior villain and Friday never comes close to highs of the first Elm. But Friday for most part is consistently bad in a fun way up until Hodder movies. Elm is total shit after the first movie. No, Dream Warriors is crap. When Freddy turned into a clown

freddy has the better family also

The Friday movies are pretty boring. Jason has no personality and the characters are usually buttholes who you don't give a shit about dying or just plain uninteresting. There's some good kills, but nothing as creative as the ones in the elm street movies.

    >Highest highs
Probably Nightmare wins because of the reasisn stated above. Wes Craven outdid himself with the first movie. Meanwhile Friday Part 6 is only a great movie that does the bare minimum fans wanted (*cheesy scenes but serious tone, string Jason, relatively good characters, good plot and no major errors).
    >"Better" lowest
Nightmare wins again here. Although Freddy 4 is pretty bad, there are still a lot of redeeming qualities to the film and it's overall enjoyable and still a fair Nightmare movie. Meanwhile Friday Part 9 is within the top 5 worse movies I've ever watched. The hugeand blatant continuity errors. Endless potholes in its own movie. Too much randomness (le anime blade). Weird scenes. Atrocious dialogue.100% Bad writing. Barely any actual Jason. It just didn't make any sense and was horrible even for a franchise that's known for bad movies. It's only redeeming quality is that the main characters had good actors but even then their good acting seems out of place in the movie and and beginning and ending that don't make sense in context.
    >Atmosphere
Friday does this better as the movies do a great job making you feel like you're on a camping trip and giving Jason an urban legend sort of vibe in every pre-8 movie.
    >Scariness
Reddit category as no one 18+ should be scared of anything but this goes to Nightmare as Freddy inside movies is shown as fear itself while Jason simply doesn't really give off that vibe
    >Gore/Nudity
Actual Reddit category. Showing naked people or having them coated in a lot of ketchup doesn't make it good.
    >Graphics
Probably Nightmare as it has creative kills, settings and sequences, but it's worth noting that a lot of the effects didn't age well.
    2/3

      >Overall
I will say Friday is better as it's more consistent and their usual bad movies aren't offensive. Rather they are either admirable or simply boring. HOWEVER, this only counts if you treat Part 9 as an outlier as otherwise this entire argument gets thrown out and I would say Nightmare is better because it doesn't entirely destroy itself randomly.

      Movie scores:
      Nightmare 1:9/10
      Revenge:7/10
      Warriors:7.5
      Master:2/10
      Child:3/10
      Freddy's Dead:2.5/10
      New Nigmtare:7.5/10
      Remake:4/10

      Part 1:4/10
      Part 2:3.5/10
      Part 3:6/10
      Part 4:4/10
      Part 5:6/10
      Part 6:8/10
      Part 7:6/10
      Part 8:7/10
      Part 9:0.5/10
      Part 10:6.5/10

      Freddy vs Jason:6/10

Jason or Big Jase as I like to call him is cooler than freddy due to freddy being a child killer but that makes him way more scary and evil, Big Jase is always the same just slowly walks after you but freddy doesnt even have to do that be waits for you to fall asleep then fricks you up in your dreams which is way cooler than re world . Freddy im afraid is the better character even though I love Big Jase he is moronic cant even talk where Freddy can mock you just before in goes in for the kill and he kills kids so hes instantly abetter baddie Big Jase only kills teens.
