TMNT Adventures

This series is pretty good once it gets going but MAN is it ever preachy with it's environmentalism, white guilt etc.

That's disappointing. Any particularly cringey examples?

Why bebop and Rocksteady became nudists in the comic

Apparently, their mutations were starting to make them live more as animals than humans. They ultimately got shipped off to an animal sanctuary planet in Dimension X.

Okay but why IS Donatello carrying 1492 on his back like he's Atlas carrying the Earth?

Columbus barely did shit. Spaniards were worse.

Columbus was, in fact, Le Bad. We let Italians convince us otherwise for a bit, giving him a holiday to shut them up.

Yeah but he wasn't really bad though. You'd have to be a massive pussy to hold him in any kind of contempt

Why is that edgy? Columbus really isn't bad, so long as you're not a moron who filters history through the lense of 1st world/21st century sensibilities

He was considered barbarous enough for his times that the Spanish court grew concerned and investigated. We have the records they collected looking into it.
He threw gold at the problem and made it go away, but he wasn't "standard for the time."

In hindsight, it's kind of hilarious how you can tell issue 26 was done by a guest writer because it's actually hopeful in the end.

The Archie comics take the "Archie" part pretty literally sometimes with the characters looking like they just stepped out of Riverdale.

Archie TMNT is interesting to me because its basically done by Mirage. And Mirage, a lot of people don't realize, is a very liberal, Massachusetts group of people. Eastman and Laird mostly kept it to themselves, but it's evident in a lot of the 80's/90's stuff and Stephen Murphy wears it on his sleeve. Alot of his work is driven by 90's environmentalist thinking where it's very sensationalist and fatalistic.

Your loss, honestly. It may not be as batshit insane as Archie Sonic, and it can be quite preachy at times, but it's an experience nonetheless.

TMNT was always environmentalist. Eastman and Laird are both left-wing and everyone working for Mirage was a friend of theirs of some kind. The writer for the Archie series did Puma Blues for Mirage which is even more heavy-handed about the environmentalism.

    >Ninjara
    >Slash
    >the last fight with Krang that leads to Bebop and Rocksteady becoming nudists
    >Armaggon's time travel shenanigans
This is the sum total of what I liked of reading the comic. Stephen Murphey had it in him to do fun turtle adventures but almost always chose to have the turtles sit down and listen to a boring history lesson or a PSA instead. And its really shocking what little the Mutanimals do and then they get killed off for good.
