I agree with you. In fact, I refuse to watch post-Roddenberry Trek which to me is non-canon.
    So there is just:
    >TOS
    >TNG
and their respective movie series and that's it. That is Star Trek to me and I'm happy with it.

Personally, ive watched up to enterprise (it sucked) ds9 had its moments, but voy was just shlock.

      Yeah man makes perfect sense.

Pound for pound, DS9 is a better quality show. Higher voltage, smarter, told an effective war story that didn't just get wrapped up at the end of the two-part episode. Went really *really* outside the box a few times.
TNG wins on nostalgia, especially as it was more childlike and a lot of us were watching it as children. But there's so much of it, and the shitty movies

        >the shitty movies
which ones do you dislike? i refuse to believe you think they're all bad, First Contact for instance isn't just good ST it's a great movie.

Some plots are more contrived than others. The amount of hand waving scifi magic to get the two captains together with the clockwork orange dude was significantly more contrived than your average plot

The last season of ds9 puts it below tng, they shat the bed with dukat.

The dukat storyline staggered, but the shit where he becomes Bajoran and porks Nurse Ratched was a wild ride and I liked it.
What you're really saying here is that the shows are equal in quality because you'd have to be a moron to say that Dukat's one-tenth of the screen time in season 9 made a huge difference.

          >Pound for pound, DS9 is a better quality show.
Ehh...no. Too claustrophobic, as in, those sets look like cramped sets, making even the more laughable TOS sets look cavernous. Yes it had good special effects, but feels a definite step down from TNG-quality.

Not to say that I think TNG was perfect, heck I think they even fricked up at least one of their movies that could have been far greater (Insurrection).

Yeah sorry man like we're both sitting here watching a show and sometimes it tells really compelling stories about how human moral quandaries would remain even if we become incredibly advanced,
and you're scoring it down because the sets from 1992 look cardboardy, and the people are just faceless slabs of clay having emotional experiences you can't empathize with because you literally IRL have shit-for-brains syndrome.

i got into ST with TNG, most episodes are fantastic. TOS is unwatchable, the second best series is actually DS9, due to it actually doing something more unique and not retreading old ground, i also appreciation the tie-ins, none of the other series can compete.

Have you tried using an episode guide skipping ahead? The first season is pretty mediocre, similar to many other shows. It really starts to hit its stride in late S2 and S3 and get better from there. There's also Babylon 5

I didn't say it was the best. And almost all scifi has shitty first seasons that are difficult to get into. Plus episodic shows can have some real stinkers and there's no point to watch them unless you want to be thorough

To be fair, even TNG has a few shitty episodes.
Off the top of my head, here's the two worst TNG episode I can think of:
            >the one where an alien woman/man thing is in the place of the current day's talk about gays and lesbians. Hamfisted. Felt embarrassed watchintgit. Never watched it since.

            and then:
            >the ice energy planet destroying murdering thing is finally killed, then Picard and crew treat their savior like a c**t and even set her up for arrest and prosecution because MUH INTELLIGENT LIFE

God that was bad. And I know there's been others. Looking at you, Wil Wheaton.

Like, at any given moment, one of the characters will yell what they are doing to the other characters. They go "If I open this door, we will get sucked out into space!!!" and then they yell "I am nervous because I'm so high-strung and geeky!"
The whole show makes you feel like somebody is banging pots and pants together, especially in the dumbass samurai jack action setpieces.
