Joker was quite literally the plot of Taxi Driver and King of Comedy.
Why anyone would try and defend Todd Philips directing this film is beyond me. There was nothing original about it.

Critics can just be critics, but they open themselves up to this argument when they try and fail to be filmmakers before they were critics. It gives their criticism a tinge of pettiness. Roger Ebert's one writing credit was for some shitty Russ Meyer smut film in 1970.

Yes. It's also why you shouldn't bother listening to writing advice from proven hacks like Robert McKee. Those who can't do, teach and criticize. There is an art to criticism, but if it's all based on your resentment for not being able to create the type of art you're criticizing, then it's not coming from an authentic place, but rather from a wounded ego.

Because my posts have infallible logic behind them. If Jay had pointed out some severe plot hole in a Todd Phillips movie or somehow demonstrated how he's "not a real filmmaker" then that might be interesting. But instead he just asserts it, which is how you know it's coming from a resentful ego.

RLM have shit opinions, why are they so popular here?

  5. 2 weeks ago
    Anonymous

He always mocks the Hangover with the phrase "everything's crazy!" or whatever it is, criticizing the fact that the main plot of the movie was that this group of regular guys has a wild night where a bunch of crazy stuff happens, but what the frick is wrong with that? Obviously it got old after they made three of them, but when the first one came out it was pretty much an instant classic comedy movie, and it used that "everything goes crazy!" trope better than any other movie had, or has since.
The RLM crew, including a few of the side characters (aidsmoby, fat homosexual, possibly others) are honestly just a bunch of bitter nerds who developed a false arrogance to conceal their low self-esteem, which happens to many nerds. I've personally known a few people just like them, and they were insufferable to be around.
The only real saving grace of RLM is that they're funny sometimes. Mainly Mike.

This is why I liked the second Hangover the best. Do some crazy shit in an unhinged place like Bangkok and you too will get raped by a troony hooker. It removed all the fantasy from the first movie.

pre-existing bias due to the Hangover movies
