It's based off the memes from here from some years back where white neets envision themselves in a loving relationship with a qt asian like the ones they see online. The 'reality' is it's ugly guys that no qt 3.14 wants and so they end up with fugly girls and the place that they move to which they assumed would love them for their whiteness actually hates them. So they basically stay indoors or foot to foot behind their fugly wife who doesn't view them as a real man.

Onward is a good movie if you just watch it as that, a movie. It’s not trying to break new ground,though it does suffer Pixar’s obligated 15 minutes of melancholy.
Pixar has more mediocre or worse movies than good ones now.
I thought Big Hero Six, Inside Out and Zootopia were the best final Disney/Pixar movies and they peaked with these. Everything after that is downhill.

Yep. Think about all the special moments you had growing up from Pixar movies. They all came from proper story telling, empathic characters, and narrative devices that placed the story above a political trend-of-the-week. In the beginning that was all Pixar. Towards the end the old guard had either died or retired and Lasseter was the only one left, and he still held enoihh clout in the house he helped build to give the agenda exec's decent pushback. Disney forced him out specifically to be able to push the social engineering horseshit without any opposition. They made up a couple sexual harassment allegations to justify disgracing him.
