Nope, that doesn’t make sense, so they change it to warmth, but that doesn’t make sense since you said justice is cold, if you mean the warmth of attention by a detective, then that needs to be said or implied. Episode 2 was a disgrace to TD. It was trope-y, lazy, and overall lacked nuance in character motivation like the previous seasons. You are also left with 4 more episodes while most of ep 2 was weak exposition writing that made season 2 and 3 look like masterpieces when it came to setting the stage for the overarching investigation.

The setting is kino and they've done a really good job with the atmosphere of the town so far. Cinematography is good.
Unfortunately the show has centred around "strong women", which by 2024 standards means they're either sex addict c**ts or butch lesbians who hate men.

          >Show me a town 150 miles north of the arctic circle that looks like this
The setting being kino is not dependent on the degree to which the setting mirrors real life. It's not a documentary series on life in Alaska. Nobody but you gives a shit if it isn't a 1:1 portrayal of an Alaskan town.
It's a small, isolated community in the frozen north, and that's kino.

            Anonymous

A realistic setting matters in a show like this. Then why even say it's in Alaska? Why make a point that it's 150 miles north of the arctic circle without showing anything but snow? Any place with snow will do. It was poorly though out but I'm glad you love it.

        Anonymous

For the negatives the acting overall is super stiff but that might be due to the dialogue not being that great, however Jodie Foster tries her breasts off
There is a lot of wokeness, principally in the form of every man being a bumbling moron and every women being strong and/or wise, and i mean every single one of them, this is double so if that woman happens to be a native.
The cgi so far has been atrocious, but at least it has only been a couple scenes
Both "eureka" moments that have driven the investigation have been truly moronic
You can't like a single character, i mean not a single likable character has been presented to us so far

For the positives the "vibe" of the show is immaculate, shitty dying off mining alaskan town just as the long night starts, its a terrific setting to do this kind of shit
Some paranormal stuff maybe happening, it will end up not being anything but its cool
The mystery is interesting even when you dont give a frick (yet?) about the characters involved
The cinematography is decent to good, it doesnt look like an student project, its well done (except the cgi)

The "vibe" of the show is fricking terrible. Doesn't feel like northern Alaska at all just a bunch of morons running around what could be any midwestern city that snows. Not even close to the bleakness of S1 and that should have been the easy part given the setting

            Anonymous

certainly. you are "filming" in a place where panning the camera to endless dark is enough to set a scene up. add in some good ambience and spooky minimalist music and its babbys first horror. this should be easy enough to do on accident. i really do not get the music direction at all.

Anyway beyond that it's trying very hard to be season 1. The characters seem to be angrier on average which helps carry the dialogue. In terms of being good, I don't know, I don't really find season 1 gods gift to television like Cinemaphile does. I couldn't tell you if it's great. It's average I'd reckon. There is nothing that explicitly offends me or worsens my watch through like Fargo season 5. Yet.

Did you not see how the shot was framed? There's a reason the scene didn't take place in / originate in her office, as "frick you I'm doing it my way" scenes had (e.g., she and Navarro, she and Hank). The entire room was aligned with Jodie as soon as Hank hung up the phone. The captain knew he couldn't circumvent the policy manual by issuing an order that would risk destroying evidence, not with each of the other officers listening. She called him out, publicly, which was exactly what she was gaming for.

if you’ve ever dealt with the police in any capacity you would laugh your ass off at the idea of them handling it this way or big bosses, particularly in rural areas, letting some obscure clause overrule them.
There’s absolutely nothing to suggest the state had no way to transfer the bodies while preserving evidence. They didn’t even try to account for that, just acted like they’d be thrown in the back of a van.

Its fricking horrible. The first episode was okay in setting up the mystery. By the second episode you will be sick of the exposition as dialogue delivered via women acting like they are clint eastwood. It's mediocre, and feels much more like a basic cable adaptation of a James Patterson mystery with some X-Files thrown in than it does season 1 of True Detective. I think the execs decision to slap the True Detective™© brand on there instead of letting it be its own thing dooms it, as it doesn't live up to that standard.

It is clear that there is an agenda on terms of gender and identity politics at play, if you can manage to set that aside I think what you got is a mildly entertaining genre show. Prestige television it is not, if you walk in looking for The Sopranos and not Supernatural you're gonna have a bad time

Yeah its worth it, gets better bout ep3 on
I finished s1 and s2 last week for the first time. S1 is such a good cohesive show that 2 is quite jarring, I can see why it wasn't received as well. I'm still enjoying it tho. I like Vince Vaugn's parts
I understand why s1 is revered after watching it tho. Looking into it you had the same director every episode, pizza worked on the script for years as a passion project, mcconaughey and harrellson who had great chemistry and became exec producers. Its just all a perfet package for kino really. Its a bit of a luck out - it shouldn't be a wonder pizzaman never struck those heights again but he ain't solely responsible

I saw another anon the other day say that s02 would have been more well received if it didn't have the True Detective title attached, and I agree with him. It's such a huge shift in tone and narrative that it's just a completely different show. Not bad, just not nearly as good as s01. s03 is closer s01 in terms of mood, and Mahershala Ali is really good in it, but be warned that the payoff to the overarching mystery kind of shits the bed.

Is this written by the writer? This is such a dumb take. Okay, let us accept that season 1 is about the male masculinity and the male psyche and all that shit. If season 4 is supposed to be the same but for women wth does that tell us about the female psyche? Get one over on the men? check! Is the plight of the natives a part of the female mission too? Fricking half the men in town? check! Blaming the White male? check!Sounds superficial as frick to me. And this female led Alaskan police doesn't look a whole lot better than the male dominant police.

Everyone is getting completely high on their own supply via social media. On the right, it makes them racist conspiracists, so they are easy to shut out of power. But on the left, they get super progressive but their ideas are superficially egalitarian, so you can't out argue them.

This makes me take that women, or at least feminists like this LITERALLY cannot grasp shit like S1 of True Detective. They can only see it via the lens of gender, when it's talking about bigger more universal issues.

        Anonymous

It isn't wrong. In s1 every female character is either used just for sex or play "passive" background roles. There are no Active women in s1

          Anonymous

No, that's almost irrelevant it's more to do with the pessimistic tone and setting. She is only able to see that as "male", when it's about cynicism and despair and tackling with issues relating to nihilism. The fact she can only see things through gender is proof these concepts and themes just fly over her head.

And.... it's real. There's realistic settings like this all over. The world of super perfect women who are perfect and pwn women doesn't exist in the real world and only in feminist fantasies.

Season 1. In the hospital Rust is sad about not getting all of the Tuttles. Marty tells him that's not the kind of world we live in, but atleast they got their collar.
Season 4. If you want something done right get a woman to do it. Especially a black butch dyke roids b***h. Magically the Tuttles are in Alaska now and key to the story.
They are raping S1 like that [cough]Excuse me. Black person b***h raped that 41 year old bearded twink.
No wonder why he's mad and talking shit on twitter.
I bet they even recyle this hallucination Rust has in the final episode when he kills the yellow king.

Just rewatched season 1. The treatment of the conspiracy was actually quite disappointing. In case you missed it, in the end the cult amounted to nothing more than an extended Tuttle family tradition. They weren't bringing in elite outsiders, as you might've surmised from Charlie Lange's interview. It was just the Tuttles, and by 2012, Errol Childress and his moron half-sister were the only ones with any involvement left. Even in '95, the rich Tuttles weren't involved at all with what the Childress/Ledoux side of the family was doing. That's why Tuttle had to send in the task force, because he got the news of Dora Lange's killing like anyone else and wanted to figure out what the frick was going on. Pretty lame.

A lot of people forget just how bizarre it was to have watched this show and then experience pizzagate in real time. Whatever your credence in pizzagate itself, it did a lot to mainstream the whole idea of elite pedo rings, and largely provided the impetus for stuff like Q and the broader emerging conspiracy consciousness of the 2020s. Lots of people got 'pilled on forgotten, but actually quite famous, old cases like the Franklin scandal, Dutroux affair, McMartin Preschool, Presidio, etc. It was genuinely scary back then. 2016-2017. Fast forward to now, and anyone with a brain just takes it for granted that israelite pedos run everything.

I don't think there's any way the real world parallels didn't factor in to Pizzolotto's writing decisions. Specifically his motivation to restrict the political scope of the cult, and to make the bad guys le heckin redneck nazis. re: the instagram post, he has a strong motivation to countersignal any suggestion of a broader conspiracy regardless of how pozzed s4 is, or the fact that Tuttle involvement contradicts the plot of s1. So basically he's a homosexual and covering for israelites.

No. And this isn't recent either, he's made similar posts on instagram many years ago hammering home that Errol Childress was the Yellow King, and was just a fricked up moron who drank the family cult koolaid. No further activity beyond Errol Childress.

The remaining Tuttles are happy to distance themselves from all of it, but they're not involved in cult activity post-95.

This is actually a really common misunderstanding among the fanbase, and people were upset with the resolution when s1 came out. You're not alone there.

The ending hospital scene has them literally say and accept that they barely did anything but get a small cog in a bigger machine. Its a small victory of light against dark however they can settle with.

I really don't give two shits about what the creator wants to say after the fact. JK Rowling says hermione wuz actually black - that's nice, I'll add it to the fanfiction archives. Same for mr. Pizza

I think they are inactive at that time because they’ve gotten too important and have grown to realize how fricking lucky they were to not get caught with such a large operation. We know all the churches and schools were used, and they all must have had at least one person in each involved. How else are you going to bring a bunch of people in to diddle the kids?
We know for sure of the two Tuttles, Sam Childress, Billy Childress, Errol Childress, probably Deacon Furar(sp?)
Personally I think there are probably other powerful ones if the one Tuttle could be knocked off so quickly and cleanly after his stash was discovered.

doesn't really matter what he said afterwards, if something different is implied in the series
          >The remaining Tuttles are happy to distance themselves from all of it, but they're not involved in cult activity post-95.
Firstly, Billy Lee Tuddle still kept the videotape and pictures of cult activity up until 2012, which implies that he is still involved.
Secondly, Rust in the end still believes that they and other important people are involved.

I mean, I agree that something cult beyond Errol Childress post-2012 is a reasonable reading, and should have been written, but it's not actually there AND Pizzolatto says it didn't go any further.

Rust doesn't believe other people are involved. He KNOWS that the Tuttle family are covering up their prior involvement in the cult, and is disappointed that they won't face justice. That doesn't mean they're still actively involved in cult activity.

I think their level of activity has been reduced to jerking off to their snuff films

Exactly this. They're had wrapped up long before. All Cohle found was the VHS and photos of Marie Fontenot. Those were 20 years old at that point. You'd expect him to find a lot more, or at least SOMETHING else, anything at all, if they had continued.

    >hurrrr HURRRRRRR it has supernatural/lovecraftian themes!!!

The accent is supposed to be because he had to re-teach himself how to talk after his father burned his face, and he used some British VHS tapes to do so.
