Dont get me wrong , nobody is denying the monstrous soviet crimes like the holodomor, Katyn and countless others. but the movie is really good at depicting such crimes regardless of the perpetrator, hell just switch the uniforms and it still checks out, try to look past the propaganda and what you have is one of the most brutal and honest depictions of war.
Thats what i like about that movie, you could dress the soldiers in napoleonic costume and it would still work, thats the sort of shit that happens in wars, its fricked, it just happens
